Far Out IPAFar Out IPA

Brewed by:
Bootlegger's Brewery
California, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Galaxy hops from Australia give it a funkadelic tropical fruit aroma, and the balance between the malt and hops is wicked. You’ll want to bogart this one because every sip keeps you wanting more, and at 7% alc by vol, this IPA will have you talking jive in no time. It’s going to be difficult not to dig this beer, because it’s far out, man.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

A bright orange amber body color, tangerine to apricot in appearance, with a little bit of thin carbonation, through a somewhat clear and thick body. Head is off white and three fingers tall, with very soapy retention. A real nice shiny glass and appearance, with some lacing.

Subtle tropical aromatics of hop on the nose, somewhere between mango and pineapple and a bit of woody pine. Some vanilla sweetness comes in a bit. All of it nice and subtle. Quite a good bouquet.

Pretty solid palate with a real nice juiced mouthfeel. Hints at a little bit of brown sugar and syrup but considerably lighter with the hop tropical juiced angle. Some surprising faint toasty notes of white bread and bakery sweetness, both in the mid palate and on the finish. Much good tropical juiced action, and a good balance between minimal sweetness and bitterness.

Solid IPA.

Serving type: 22 oz into a pint glass

Pours a hazy dark orange color. Smells of pineapple, guava, fruity sweetness, slight hops dank, with some random pine thrown in. It's pleasant. Taste is superior to the smell. Initial fruity/floral flavors lead into slight cattiness, which finishes with a medium strong bitterness that leaves the mouth wanting more. It's quite refreshing. Feel is semi-light and amply carbonated which leads to a pleasant feel in tandem with the flavor profile. Overall, this is a very nice beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Thanks to @2beerdogs for the chance to sample this West Coast gem.

Aroma: Very bright lemony hop aroma up front. Fresh melon and mango notes. Clean fermentation character.

Appearance: Hazy amber pour with pale yellow edges. A lot white head retains well.

Flavor: More lemon and melon flavors. Low caramel sweetness. Firm pithy grapefruit-like bitterness. Balance is to the bitter. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with high carbonation. Slightly oily. No alcohol heat.

Overall impression: A dry and crisp IPA. Full tilt West Coast. Big and tropical. Well done!

22 ounce bomber poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours a dark, hazy orange with a bright white creamy head, lots of carbonation, lots of lacing.

A: Pine, resin, citrus, oranges, sweet maltiness, smells very sweet.

T: Like the nose, pine and resin notes, hint of citrus flavors, moderate amount of bitterness, dry finish, notes of lemon peel, semi-sweet, aftertaste is of lemon, pretty solid.

M: Creamy mouthfeel, well carbonated, dry finish.

O: Pretty tasty, very drinkable, balanced, goes down real easy, I get no alcohol at all, leans on the sweet side, overall a solid IPA, definitely worth a try.
