Barrel aged AlkoholikA runs a bit darker in color that the base beer. Served in a snifter, it produced a very slight white head. Giving off a big bourbon aroma one immediately knows this beer will be potent, yet the bourbon in the aroma is sweet. The sweetness is nice, but it does not last long enough. The base beer is not very noticeable aside from the faint notes of sweet malt that linger in the background. Immediately, one detects a strong hint of warm booze. On later sips, one beer seems less hot, but the first taste burns a little. A warming aftertaste that burns the throat follows. The texture of the beer makes the warming last long enough to warm the drinker on a cold spring day.
It is not often that I like the base beer better than the barrel aged version, but this is the case with AlkoholicA.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
