Seems like black markets IPAs are the go to beers.

Had on tap at a local San Diego restaurant. The flavor just fell off after the initial sweet taste and just finished with lack of flavor. So weird.

On tap at schmidy's in palm desert, served in a pint glass under the description of rye hefeweizen

A: hazy mix of tang and organic lemonade, light cream foam sits on top of the beer like a white frosted cupcake. High watermark lacing with little to no vertical lacing. The foam ends up receding to a thin film over a pulpy orange juice mixer body. Looks okay, like a hef milkshake.

S: very mellow zest free orange peel with some pizza doughiness in the end. Some very drying cracked wheat that dries into raw steel cut flakes. A very mellow nose that doesn't give much more than suggestion. Honeys come through dried on grains.

T: a decently anti-sweet flavor of tangerine and whole wheat bread crusts. The flavor goes quickly with a drying mouth. Perhaps an under appreciated refinement in the lack of bitterness in any of the notes. The sweetness hits with a slight tinge of dry mild currents, it dries and never hits a cliched hefeweizen sweetness. Pretty okay, a yummy dry character that elevates the decency of the drink. Faint pear-apple in the end.

M: like I said in the taste: this thing is dry as the desert I live in. The rye may inhibit some if the zesty citrus, which makes for a detrimental lack of crispness, but I'll take it over dizzying sweetness any day. A rustic non-aspirin dry mouth. Light sandy textures are left in the end.

O: The dryness contributes to a flavor profile of yellow/red pears and slightly unripe green apples. Decent, but nothing I'd grab again. I like the anti-sweetness, but it is a bit of a catch 22, as it's a major flavor block as well. In the world hefeweizens, this is a reasonably interesting interpretation of the style. This is an attempt to make it more compatible with the beer geek palate. Nice idea, but it's got a ways to go.

On tap at Blue Palms Brewhouse in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky light yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, grain, banana, yeast, and spices. Taste is much the same with a grainy aftertaste. There is a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but nothing all that exciting in my opinion.
