A slappy, shiny black pour yields a moderate tan foam settling to a thin film with a quarter pipe collar.

Smell is slightly roasty, nutty dark malt that is overtaken by red fruity pepper that is also lightly charred, and almost has a black tea leaf note. This is definitely a drastic departure from the base.

Holy shit, Olé Mole is spicy af! This is possibly the most heat I've gotten in a Mexican mole-style stout ever, and it builds on the swallow to fresh habanero levels! I get dark cocoa and loads of fresh spicy pepper that's barely cooked or roasted, giving fruity fresh pepper notes of strawberry, raspberry and other such esters. A faint nutty roasted malt leaves a ghost of an aftertaste, but otherwise, this is fiery hot to the exclusion of all else!

Body is moderate to light, slick, with a mild carbonation and a burning, semi-dry swallow.

First quaff of the night at the imperial stout tasting, and what a way to wake up the palate. Perfect fro Cinco de Mayo too. Normal enough pour, but aroma kicks in with some Mexican chocolate and a bit of cinnamon, kind of savory. Taste has the spicy, peppery notes that work well with the chocolate and roast grains. Super smooth.

2017 bottle.

Holy mole. This thing is spicy. Well balanced hit and traditional vanilla, chocolate base.

A: pitch black, with small; quickly dissipating, dirty, khaki colored head, surprisingly, the beer (not the foam but the alcohol in the beer itself) does not cling to the glass all that much

S: boozy, with immediate notes of chocolate, peppers, and coffee, the peppers add a nice green sting to the nose

T: the immediate impression is chocolate and roasted malt accented by the bitter cacao, with the pepper sitting comfortably at the back and softening the warm burn of this beer, the heat of the pepper becomes more prominent and a hint of vanilla is introduced as the beer sits and opens up, really this beer opens up a great deal as it warms and though a lot of new flavors don’t arise from it, they do become more prominent and identify themselves in a way, like they were pretending to be something else and then choose to set themselves apart after a certain period, the vanilla dances with the pepper here creating a sweet and smoky aftertastes that (while i wish was stronger) is very fine

M: thick as molasses, enough said

O: this a wonderful and welcome take on an already wonderful beer. I’m really not a fan of stouts because I get bored with them easily so any (more left field-ish) innovations in that style I’m always interested to try. That being said I do; without qualification love el gordo and love this beer as well, it’s not better or worse than the original, it is different and i can see myself choosing one over the other at any given time depending on my mood, snatch this up if you can find it (good luck if you don’t live in bama) or the original, they are both phenomenal stouts and you really can’t go wrong with either. It’s sweet and thick and has a kick.
