The Birmingham one-two required a short jaunt from here to there. And somehow, Davo, err, I mean Mr. David LeBoud, and the Uber driver quick quick quickly bonded over Little Asian food, Sunset Park, some basement joint (fight club?), Singapore, Parsippany, and flat-ass Oklahoma. I don’t know, he may be a grifter. And the Uber driver is suspect, too. Dropped across the street from a large ballfield, maybe (definitely), we couldn’t have arrived too soon…

A big brick & beam standalone building, easily located as their large one billion bulb logo sign out front lights up the sky like the goddamn bat signal. Past the manicured lawn & penned tabled seating area and up the stairs along the deck space of the same and in.

Cavernous open space. Concrete floors and a vaulted ceiling, with drop lantern bullet lighting tracing the bar, wide pans above, and a large hop cone lamp in the far corner. Giant dark gray cinder block walls with panel windows pieces up front over the entrance & deck, and a wall of windows to the rear where the barback isn’t offering brew room views and barrel fun look on.

Loooooong steel bar; dinged, stained, & drilled through (as there are holes of different sizes), horizontal wood plank base, and nowhere to lay my feet but tucked into the mixed chair and stool rungs below. Seating for 12 but it could fit more. The barback fronts a large cold box alongside the brewery proper. A small board sits on center, and a row of 14 nondescript handles to each side fronting colored chalk drawings of larger tap handles on the wall behind it; the beer names listed within the drawings vertically. From afar, it must look just like labeled handles. Racking on the counter to both sides holding glassware, and crowls & growls. Large sprawling slat board running the length of the barback above listing draft selections; beer, ABV, SRM, IBU, pricing for ¼ pour (which I guess is a 4oz sampler), 12oz, pint, crowl, and 32oz & 64oz growl fills). The crowl costs $1 more than the 32oz growl fill of the same volume, I presume it’s because can crimping is union work and they negotiated a higher wage to do that job in the last contract. The selections are separated out between core beers on one side and big beers/seasonals/limited release on the other side.

So, beer. The board is carved out between ‘core & seasonal beers’ (Good People IPA, 7.1%; Good People Pale Ale, 5.8%; Good People Brown Ale, 5.8%; Bearded Lady, Wheat Ale, 4.2%; Coffee Oatmeal Stout, 5.7%; Muchacho, Mexican Lager, 4.8%; Denim Downhiller, Winter Ale, 5.3%), and ‘big beers & limited release’ (Snake Handler, Double IPA, 10%; Dry Hopped Kettle Sour, 5%; Smash Simcoe, Session IPA, 4.9%; Brut IPA, 6.4%; Plum Gose, 4%; Adjunct Professor, gluten free Juicy Ale, 5.5%; Sour Pash, Passionfruit Sour, 4.9%; Dark Lager, 4.6%; Tart Tangerine, 4.6%), and a single non-beery item (Lemon Seltzer, 5%). And then there’s (like) 10 IPAs up from last week’s IPA day.

We were kind of pressed for (closing) time, so I took in 2 pints and a few shortys. Good People Brown, nutty toffee niceties, I like; Dark Lager, nice malt backbone; Brut IPA, Diactyl, sadness, and a slight lingering remorse; Tart Tangerine, Hey, Mr. Tangerine Man!, meaning I liked this one; I went 3 for 4, not too shabby. Wish I’d had time to get into the IPA mix full on.

Some booths on the far wall and a few picnics, too. Flats to both sides of the barback and a projection screen on the end. Not a lot of décor play but there is a massive wood Alabama state map piece on the front wall. It’s done up in slat wood, each county carved out in a different color and its strips facing other directions. Someone put a lot of time and love into it. Just absolutely amazing. Funk Farm bottle posters pasted on the far wall. Spacious swag zone includes bottles, bottles, bottles, bottles, and more bottles. And then shirts and hats and the uge offerings. There are a few pallets of cans and some barrels stashed above the swag nook. Oh, and it seems the front porch is a wraparound because you can get to it out the side door past the swag zone. Good stuff.

Solid place and I’m glad we got in here, albeit later than we expected (although to be fair, it was many hours in from ‘ouisiana with stops along the way. Lots of running, busy day). Definitely worth a visit when in town.

Good People Brewing is located across the street from Regions Field, a minor league baseball stadium. Since it was game day when I visited the brewery, it was lively inside.

Good People provided a very nice vibe for its guests. Lots of space inside and out. The front and to the side they had plenty of bench seating. Also, they had some games for patrons. Once you walk inside you have some tables, bar area, taps, and you can see brewing equipment in the back. They had 10-12 beers on tap, I believe all house beers. I had four tasters of various beer styles. I thought they were well done. The servers were friendly.

They don't serve food, but a food truck was parked and serving on their premises.

Overall, a very nice place to enjoy beers in Birmingham.

I get to Birmingham a couple of times a year for work. I have really enjoyed the positive changes in the local beer scene. I have been meaning to make it to Good Peoples for some time and this last trip I was able to get there.

Located across the street from a nice minor league baseball park, I am sure this place is really hoping on game days. The whole area seems to undergoing some gentrification with new buildings, etc.

As you approach, you will notice the large outdoor patio. There is also a second outdoor area that is also off the taproom.

This is a nice space. There are stained concrete floors, a long bar, nice exposed metalwork, some huge fans, etc.

I sat at the bar and received prompt and professional service from the bartenders. They are free with samples which is nice.

They offer their beers in several sizes ranging from a small pour up to 32 oz. I thought the pint price of $6 was a fair deal.

I only saw house beers, which I was ok with as most of what I had was very good. I took a crowler of IPA with me when I was leaving.

They had a nice crowd. I enjoyed talking beer with several of the friendly patrons.

I will have no problem making a return visit.

It's been awhile since I've been back to Alabama, but in my opinion Good People has the coolest vibes out of the Birmingham breweries. While I hear Ghost Train is a good time too, that wasn't open while I was living there. Always solid beers and I'd highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already.

Nice taproom right across from the minor league baseball stadium. I went one night when it was raining, and ended up cutting out after a couple of beers, but the place was hopping. Nice area to the side where bands can set up. Big patio out front (not covered) and a rather large area inside. This brewery had the largest selection of beers on tap and probably the best beer that I had at a brewery in Birmingham. There was a food truck out front, guessing there is one there most of the time

V-Awesome. Local and thriving. Good combo of industrial and Alabama/southern vibes. Everyone was in good spirits, and everyone was there for a good time and good beer. They also had a delicious food truck outside.
Q-Everything from the bathrooms to the seating and beer was top notch. Wonderfully set up in every single way.
S- Great service, they were there right when you needed them for a refill.
Selection- They have the best beer in Alabama in my opinion, they didn't dry out all night either.
Brewery was very visible behind the glass., very industrial and huge for a micro brew.

My favorite brewery in Bham by far. Blue Collar is its feel. Where some of the other taprooms are covered up with Gen Xer's and their registered pooches, I walked in GP one day and there was an old man who had two goats on a leash. I knew I had found the place I wanted to hang out and drink beer! Good beer and an even greater staff to take care of you!

Location was near the minor league ball park. Parking available. Nice open space which connects the inside to the outside. Nice looking modern place with a nice wooden bar. I particularly liked that this drinking establishment had an area for smoking. I couldn't get a feel for the people here as I probably came around 7 pm on a Saturday at which time there were very few people. The draft list was varied but I didn't remember drinking anything that outstanding.

Visited 8/6/15 at 1pm and I was one of the few people in there which I enjoyed. Joel running the tap was friendly and helpful. I had a few brews but my favorite was Snake Handler. Good atmosphere...not too foo foo, not too industrial. A nice place that is worth a visit.
