Super dark deep Amber ruby, small white, smells very roasty slight bready, tastes of roasty Malts with slight lemony herbal hops, mouthfeel is slightly thin, finish is lasting and roasty, light carbonation.

Brown pour (16 oz draft) with thin beige head; roasted malt balance with lite hop bitterness;medium lite mouthfeel; dry, lite hop middle; as liquid warms more sweet malt; finish is dry dull and fuzzy.

A pretty interesting beer. This really is not an amber ale. There are strong roasted notes and coffee notes as well as a smoked character. I recommend trying this one.

Nice but their stouts are smoother.

Bartender told me this was a Red Ale that tasted more like a Porter, I was intrigued. It certainly has a lingering taste of Arabica Coffee Beans, very light Malt flavor, and a smoothness like that of Left Hand but lacking a respectable body to keep you on your toes. The sum of its parts is rather bland not a very pleasing beer.

1901 red ale is a personal favorite of mine but in this review i gave it a little bit lower then i would if i was talking to a friend.

this beer is scary dark for a red ale and i mean dark if you don't watch this beer get poured you would swear that it was black. there is relatively little head to this beer but what is there leaves a very beautiful contrast to that void like darkness of the brew its self.

the smell of this beer is almost like coffee and i mean it is very strong roasted coffee sent. there is not much else to detect with this beer when it comes to scent it is a one trick pony.

taste wise this beer is as you could guess has a very heavily roasted flavor matching the flavor and the scent together. you can detect a hint of caramel and a even a little toffee but you mainly get that powerful smoked flavor. this beer is also incredibly drinkable while some beers might have you slowly sip or wait a little before each swig this beer seems to have an opposite effect. when i first tried this beer it was nearly gone before i realized how much i drank.

while a simple beer lacking some of the complex fusions of flavors that a lot of beer drinkers would enjoy i rate this beer as a must try just for how different it is from a normal red ale and how easy it is to drink.

i hope you enjoyed my review
