Sampling cold 16 oz can poured into a snifter. A gift my mom picked up during a recent visit to Asheville. Thanks! My can says 7.0% not the 6.2% listed here. Maybe a new recipe?
The beer pours a bright copper hue with large white globs of sediment suspended in the beer and then settling to the bottom of my glass. A very minimal bleached white head foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer with a large wispy island in the center. Some lazy streams of carbonation rise to the surface.
The aroma is some sweet caramel and bready notes but then this rolls to some pithy citrus rind and pine sap hits. Not a huge aroma but some complexity which makes it interesting.
The first sip reveals a smooth and crisp textured body with mild carbonation that gently rolls across my palate.
Flavor is similar to the nose with a bit of caramel and sweet malt up front that rolls to some rindy grapefruit and a bit of grassy hop character. This grassiness lingers for a bit after the swallow with a bit of bitterness, but I dont get any alcohol burn or black pepper. The beer is pretty drinkable and balanced, but I think it could use a little more hops on the nose for a boost of my ratings. Still solid, but could be better IMO.

Iron Rail is a great-looking example of the modern turbid IPA: a giant, pebbly off-white head tops a medium-turbid, effervescent pale amber body; head retention is modest and lacing is excellent, consisting of thick, sticky bands and slabs. The aroma is medium-big; it is fronted by bright pineapple juice, backed by cannabis-like florals and more subtle grapefruit notes, with modest alcohol overtones riding atop it all. Up front, the flavor is modestly bitter melon with hints of a more vinous character and a bit of grassiness. Mid-palate the melon sweetens a bit, rolling back the perceived bitterness, and tea-like notes emerge, subtly, as do the florals from the nose. The malt manifests as a subtle bittersweet nutty character and a very visible, slightly caramelish bready malt foundation. The finish is a modest hit of nutty caramel, and the linger is a modest, slightly yeasty, slightly grassy pine bitterness that lasts for a while. Mouthfeel is commensurate with the medium body and is slightly astringent; the texture is medium creamy and medium peppery from the well-expressed carbonation. (16 oz can, 35 days after pkg)

16oz can from Trevor thank you very much!
A: Pours a nice 1 finger white foam head that slowly fades, deep burnt orange golden body, some carbonation, stringy lacing
S: sweet citrus, orange, malt
M: medium body with a slight syrupy resin on the tongue
T: hints of citrus up front, heavy malt that lingers awhile, some biscuit, earthy green hops, piney resin, kind of reminds me of a seasonal fall ipa brew...
O: Solid brew and glad I was able to try!

From fresh 16oz 4-pack can just released at brewery. 3 finger off white head. Slightly cloudy light Amber color. Nice retention and thick lacing. Smells very malty some citrus hoppy aroma but nothing too tangy. Taste pretty standard, ok malt to hop balance. Nothing really stands out here, more of a Pale Ale feel. Not bad though very drinkable and refreshing. 4.00

A good drinkable IPA, very drinkable and my typical choice when visiting the brewery. They don't can or bottle, so it is on tap only, which is a shame.
