The best American IPA I've had in a very long time, and the best IPA in North Carolina, hands-down.

In the glass, it is lovely to behold: glistening orange, with a nice thin white head. A slight haze speaks of dry-hopping.

On the nose, I am given a carnival-ride of citrus, bountiful dry-hopping, and a bit of pine and floral to round it out.

The taste is perfectly bitter and hop-citrusy, with a faint metallic twang that I find desirable and noteworthy. There's a nice malt presence here as well.

On the palate, it just hits the spot. Love those snappy bubbles and I've love to pair this one with anything from spicy Indian curry to a fat home-grilled beefalo burger.

Go to the Wedge Brewery on a sunny late afternoon. Sit outside. Order a pitcher, or perhaps two. They go quickly.

Come to daddy! I like a good IPA, but I love a great IPA. This is an incredible balancing of delishioso hops... My mouth want s more!!! Fight the crowds to get to this IPA! Centennial, Kent Golding, and Cascade hops are some of my favorites and Wedge has found a way to balance them all together!

Iron Rail is a great-looking example of the modern turbid IPA: a giant, pebbly off-white head tops a medium-turbid, effervescent pale amber body; head retention is modest and lacing is excellent, consisting of thick, sticky bands and slabs. The aroma is medium-big; it is fronted by bright pineapple juice, backed by cannabis-like florals and more subtle grapefruit notes, with modest alcohol overtones riding atop it all. Up front, the flavor is modestly bitter melon with hints of a more vinous character and a bit of grassiness. Mid-palate the melon sweetens a bit, rolling back the perceived bitterness, and tea-like notes emerge, subtly, as do the florals from the nose. The malt manifests as a subtle bittersweet nutty character and a very visible, slightly caramelish bready malt foundation. The finish is a modest hit of nutty caramel, and the linger is a modest, slightly yeasty, slightly grassy pine bitterness that lasts for a while. Mouthfeel is commensurate with the medium body and is slightly astringent; the texture is medium creamy and medium peppery from the well-expressed carbonation. (16 oz can, 35 days after pkg)

A good drinkable IPA, very drinkable and my typical choice when visiting the brewery. They don't can or bottle, so it is on tap only, which is a shame.
