Consumed December 30th, 2013 at the brewery. Menu indicates 6.6% ABV.

"English style robust porter with a West Coast twist", they say. Let's see...

Beer is a very dark brown with slight mahogany highlights. Trace amounts of head.

Slight maple aroma. Nothing else.

Maple is very prominent in flavor. Dark roasted malts and caramelized sugar appear as well, though in a supporting role. Substantially bitter on the finish. Overall, unbalanced and too sweet. No trace of carob in flavor that I can detect, despite the inclusion of this adjunct by the brewers.

Mouthfeel is unremarkable.

Not recommended unless you like maple syrup better than porter.

Served on-tap at Wedge Brewing Company in Asheville, NC

A: Pours an opaque but still clear very dark brown in color with light amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and some crimson highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall creamy tan head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted malts with light aromas of carob.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of lightly roasted malts with some very light hints of maple sweetness. There are some light flavors of carob towards the finish. Light to moderate amounts of bitterness which fades pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: This is a decent and enjoyable porter but I wish that the maple and carob were a little more pronounced and not as well hidden - it would really make this porter stand out from it's peers. There is no flavor of alcohol present and it goes down pretty easily.

A: Pours a dark brown with some amber highlights and a small tan head that rises and falls fairly quickly.  Minimal lacing left behind on the edges of the glass.

S: Aroma is pretty subdued, but is comprised of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and some coffee.  A touch of hops are evident in the foreground, but that's about it.  Despite not being overly complex, it has a well balanced aroma.

T: The taste is also somewhat muted, but is again pretty well balanced.  Chocolate and roasted malt come out first, with hints of roasted coffee beans and some hops.  Toned down, but tastes great.

M: Medium bodied with a  moderate level of carbonation.  A little thin, but smooth and creamy.  Nice feel on the palate.  A bit of a drying effect on the back end after each sip.

D: Very, very drinkable.  Alcohol is hidden completely and the taste, despite being predictable, is really pleasant.  Great balance and nice feel, making this a perfectly drinkable porter.

I think the info said 7% abv. Tap at Revolution Pizza.
Rather black pour, frothy cream colored head. Not a lot but retained pretty well.

Aroma has loads of malt and caramel. Some chocolate.

Taste is a very nice blend of malt, maple and some peaty chocolate. Finishes with some of the caramel, hint of citrus and cocoa.

Nearly creamy mid body. Just a slight warming to it. Goes down real easy. Well done by Wedge.
