Style: Old Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Adam aged in American Oak barrels. First released in 2000, and released again in November 2011 in 12oz bottles. This 12% beer has lots of the typical HOTD aromas: Caramel, brown sugar, tons of raisin and tobacco. Fig, date, and plum fruitiness in that order. This has a fairly strong earthy vinousness as well as oak vanilla.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown/red color with a small head that falls fast and doesn't leave much lacing on the glass. The aroma is very alcoholic - bourbon, oak, coffee-roast malts, some dark fruit. The flavor has a lot of caramel and bourbon/oak flavors, but even more alcohol flavor. Fairly sweet finish. Also has some earthy bitterness that sticks around on the tongue. The mouthfeel is moderate, but the alcohol and bitterness stick around on the palate making this one a little less drinkable for me. Very interesting beer.

Thanks Chris for bringing this by

Pours a dark reddish brown. A touch of light off-white head. Smells barrel heavy with some slight odd aromas. Smells similar to the tequila black hole. Interesting. Tastes very sweet and bourbony. Well carbonated. Overall good but not stellar. A bit boozy. Would drink it agin but it didn't blow me away

Tasted on draft in Portland taproom. Pour was flat; no head. Great aroma, though, even with my cold - I got the nice vanilla and bourbon notes. Taste was intense vanilla and strong, boozy bourbon. Too boozy, to be honest. Perhaps this ages to perfection, but this version was not the right balance to me.

Pours entirely flat, with no head to speak of, almost black, with a brighter hazelnut quality to it.

Has a prominent, wooden alcohol bite on the nose, with lots of oak and earth, toning down the spices of the barrel. A toffee note evolves from this, sweet and rustic, with a dried raisin peak and lots of toasted coconut. Pretty complex, a new aroma nuance seems to be found, everytime I put my nose in the glass.

Drinks silk and slick with no hint of carbonation, showcasing each and every flavor quality. Its mouthfeel is medium bodied and entertaining till the last moment.

The beer's taste is not as complex as its nose, it got a defining silkness, together with a very powerful barrel, soothed by the soft mouthfeel. Chocolate pudding with some banana in it, bakers chocolate, molasses, black pepper and licorice. A charred wood bark quality sets in, together with toffee and the initially established silkness. A nice chocolate and wood defined alcohol dryness results from this, warming and flavorful with more toffee and a caramel sweet finish.

Sweet, boozy, silk and oaken, these flavors define the beer, put into perfect balance to each other due to the soothing, silk mouthfeel.
