A- very thin lace on a deep gold clear body with medium carbonation.
Smell: A slightly musty scent, not very strong. Fresh barley and maybe a slight note of hops.
Taste is simple, some pilsner malt & grain with a touch of floral hops
M- it's not highly carbonated, and not a terribly substantial mouthfeel.
D: Solid, average and down the middle.

500 mL brown bottle, $1.29. Croatia gets checked off the country list here. The Lithuanian beer looked like it was in the cooler forever, while this one was dust free.

A hard pour nets a very weak average head. It fades fast to near nothing. Not as clear as I expected, possibly due to chill haze. Very dull pale orange. Doesn't look to style at all.

Smells floral, estery. Has the apple character common to a lot of Eastern Euro pale lagers. Almost apple cinnamon, oddly. Lack of hops. It doesn't smell bad, per se, but the aroma doesn't suggest a tasty beer.

Again, where are the hops? I was hoping for some of that grassy, spicy snap from the Saaz, but this is just bland sweet malt, with weak fruity, flowery hints. Hop use has to be minimal. No bitterness. Not skunked. Finish is grainy and forgettable, and I almost neglected to mention it. Not really pleasant.

Feels full for the style. Undercarbonated, which goes a way in explaining the lifeless head.

No, this is not a very good Czech Pilsner, and not a good beer. Possibly miscategorized. Stick with Golden Pheasant or Pilsner Urquell or Staropramen for a Czech Pils. If I didn't hate to waste beer so much, I would have given up and dumped it halfway through. Below average across the board. It doesn't kill me to drink Euro macros, but this might be the least worthy I've had. I'd have to be in Croatia to think about trying this again.

Rich, polished gold bullion. If Czech pilseners are supposed to be some variation on pale amber, this one didn't read the memo. The cotton white cap is clumpy, hugely pitting and sticky and looks great perched atop the liquid gold. Graceful arches of sudsy lace encircle the top of the glass. Why do I feel the appearance will be the highlight of this experience?

The focal point of the nose is tremendously muted Saaz hops. They impart a grassiness that is combined with an untoasted graininess. It's on the musky side, but isn't skunky in the least. There's really nothing of note here, at least nothing very good.

What makes a poor quality Czech pilsener taste all that different from a Euro pale lager? Or an American macro lager for that matter? In other words, I'm not impressed. Karlovacko is woefully hop-deficient, which allows an insipid, adjuncty, mineral-like character to seize control like a slime drenched, atomic blast mutated monster in a B-movie. Okay, maybe that analogy is a bit out there, but does anyone actually read these things?

The body is light and lifeless, completing the picture of an uninspired and an uninspiring beer. I feel an acute attack of extreme boredom threatening to overtake me and may not have the strength to finish this review. This is lousy beer, plain and simple. I still think Karlovacko vs. Godzilla would make a great creature feature.

Karlovačko is a beer from Croatia that once again I would classify under "lifeless Euro-Lager." It had almost all the quantities of a Heineken/Beck's rip-off (minus the green bottle), and still ended up being less drinkable than those particular macros.

Karlovačko pours a golden color with a little more than a fingers worth of foam, which lasts for about 25 seconds before dissipating into soapy bubbles. The initial aroma was indeed skunky, mixed with some cheap grainy smells. A watery and moderately carbonated mouthfeel hit the tongue. The taste certainly struck me as adjuncty, with a corn flavor being quite pronounced. A cheap husky graininess is also present, with a moderate bitterness and dryness in the finish. Flavors of corn and cooked veggies linger in the aftertaste, and the brew concludes with no alcoholic warmth.

This beer seemed rather lifeless and ordinary to me. There are quite a few good beers to be found in Eastern Europe, but this isn't one of the better ones.

50cL bottle poured into a mug.

A - clear, golden yellow color with 1cm white head that disappeared before my very eyes.

S - skunk, cereal grains, a very classic light beer smell and as many have said, it smells a lot like Heineken.

T - very, very flavorless. there's some cereal grains going on, but not much else. thankfully there wasn't any of the skunk flavor detected in the nose. the finish was dry and again, very flavorless. i didn't get any of the yeasty and spicy notes that others have spoken of.

M - high carbonation.

D - not good. definitely a drain pour.

Pour: 330ml bottle to wide mouth wine glass. Pours a pale orange, color of dark urine. White head hardly develops at all and leaves almost no trace of lacings.

Nose: Apple juice and white grapes. A little too sweet to seem inviting.

Mouth: It enters sweet and a bit chewy and follows with a bitter swallow. I like the high carbonation (do I see a trend here) but there's absolutely no depth to the flavor. The beer is completely gone from the mouth no more than 5 seconds after being swallowed - except for a nasty metallic aftertaste that doesn't seem like it should be coming from a bottle.

Karlovacko pours a light orange color with a fluffy white head from a brown 500 ml bottle. Smells better than I expected, but much like a typical macro lager. Taste is malty, and also metallic. Not much to recommend it. You would be better off spending your money elsewhere.

A - Clear straw coloured beer with a finger of bubbly white head followed quickly by strands of lacing.

S - Corn chips and crackers, pilsener malt.

T - As with the nose but fainter and with the addition of metal.

M - Highly carbonated and watery thin.

O - Pedestrian macro.

Not much to say here, this is just another mediocre Euro Lager. It pours clear, bright, yellow gold. Carbonation is a bit light. There's a touch of hops in the aroma and finish but nothing to write home about. The malt is relatively clean but bland. It's just too similar to too many other lagers to merit much discussion.

Appearance: Medium clear gold color, head is fully, creamy, and about 1/2" on the pour. A couple bubbles wander towards the top of the glass.

Smell: Light malt, but it is a weird, overcooked smell, and a light soapy presence.

Taste: Not too good, has a stale taste to it, but not too bad. Lighty maltiness, fairly crisp, not very hoppy, though.

Drinkability: So many beers are like this, why pick this one? Maybe if you want to check Croatia off of your "Countries of Beer Origin" list.

Pours out the 11.15oz bottle a dark straw/light golden with a foamy white head.

Smell. light maltiness and sweet. little mild lemon candy fruitiness to it to as well.

Taste. dry maltiness, small cardboard taste to it. also has an off flavored sourness to it. not a good taste at all. aftertaste isnt good either, like finishing a cheap american macro lager.

Mouthfeel. decent carbonation. bad balance and just overall not that good of a mouthfeel.

Overall not one i like at all. wasnt even an average lager, muchless a pils. Pass this on up.

The typical skunky whiff of hops when you pop open the bottlecap. Pours a pale golden yellow. Bubbles like apple cider about as good as it gets. The concept of "head retention" seems not to have made it to Croatian industrial brewing.

Faint malty flavor. Sweet and flat. A hint of tart acidity. Faint hops of the skunky variety, though not so unpleasant. Metallic aftertaste is one of the less attractive characteristics. That's as far as I can go with this.

Seems pretty substandard, even by Euro Pale Lager measures. I can't bring myself to rate this as a Czech Pilsener. Why don't we have a European Adjunct category? However, it has quite a beautiful label, if you like old-timey eastern European graphics. From the 500 ml bottle bought at BevMo, so I get what I deserve.

A - No lacing at all.

S - mild hop presence.

T - Finish is fruity with a poor alcohol warmth.

M - Light bodied with minimal carbonation. Not good.

D/N - Not too high. A decent beer though. Worth a try, just don't expect to much. Honestly I was kind of disappointed in this one.

Pale straw colour, big white head, foamy and unhealthy looking.
Skunk smell from a distance, bit of grain, low hops.
Sweet malts, grains, bit of corn and honey, but skunked and big metallic bitterness in the finish.
Light body, very fizzy.
Bad, a gas station lager.

A - Poured a clear golden color with a decent white head that fades quickly trying to leave some lacing

S - Has a touch of that familiar euro funk with a grainy malt nose

T - Starts off not to bad the malt is slightly sweet but has a horrible metallic finish

M - This beer has a light body with medium carbonation to it

D - If there wasn't the weird metallic flavor this beer wouldn't really be all that bad taste starts decent but finishes bad maybe fresh it would be better

A bulbous creamy white head sits atop a light golden pils with Little carbonation. Mose is mostly gas. malt lingers in the background. taste holds not much flavor. Bailey perceivable malt . This would be a great lawn-mower beer. mouth is smooth, but a little watery.

A: It pours like water, in the glass it looks like chardonnay. Nice white head on top, but it dissipates rather quickly. Very clear. It looks pretty good for the style..

S: Holy skunk ass batman!! Some malt scent in there, just a touch possibly a little noble hop smell, but it is hard to pick out.

T: Slightly sweet, with a little malt. There is a little skunk at the front of it. A slight bit of hops there, but not a lot to speak of.

M: Thin, with fairly high carbonation. It is quite the fizzy beer.

D: One is good enough for me. Not a big fan in general. But it is always nice to try the same lager from other countries.

I have never had a beer from Croatia, so I picked this one up just to try it. It is a golden-yellow color with a tall white head. A little haze in the liquid. The aroma has a bit of sulfur, light hops, and grass. The taste is lightly sweet and has a middle-range bitterness. It is a typical, maybe sub-par, Euro-lager. Light, a bit of sharpness in the finish. Forgettable.
