Shop Rite Liquors in Westfield has a great selection of beers, including a fairly large selection from NJ in the refrigerators.

Some pointers: They do keep some of the more sought after releases in the back. But if there’s something you’re looking for that just came out you can just ask if you don’t see it.

Also, the refrigerated section is a walk in and includes some beers that are not on the shelf, I assume due to spacing issues.

I do wish they had more of their craft beer selection refrigerated, a better mix your own 6 pack selection, and I wish they had a larger selection of German and Belgian beers (beyond the staples that they do carry).

There are a few “beer guys” who know their stuff so it’s easy to talk if you’re looking for something specific or if you are seeking a recommendation based on something else you’ve liked.

The prices are reasonable too.

As someone who lives in the area, this store is the no brainer go to.

This is a large, airy, well lighted store with an excellent selection of craft beers. They often get beers new to distribution in New Jersey before other bottle shops. There's ample parking and it's very convenient.

Went there today and they're selection of beers has increased! It had already been very good. Reasonably priced too. A lot of premier micro breweries represented here. Feels like being at a beerfest of six packs and bigger bottles. Also they have set up some very good displays showing the beers for the season. Seems like they are committed to being a great beer store. Overall a great beer journey! Check it out. Will give Oak Tree Liquors a run for their money. I'll keep checking out both for the best brews and the best values! Beer on!!!

This is one of my weekly stop in places to see whats coming in. they always have seasonal beers that just came out and your year round favorites as well.

staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. they will b/s with you about beer, suggest, and thank you for stopping in. more like talking in a bar than being sold something in a store.

the real benefit of this place is that you can just hang out in there and look around and no one will be pushy.

and they also have various tastings during the week!

My local go-to beer store that always has a great selection of new releases, seasonals, imports, etc. They also have a large selection of wine and cheese. Pete, the beer manager, knows his beer and is very friendly and willing to chat. All the other employees are friendly too. Prices aren't bad, especially for limited release beers where some other stores will gouge you. Everything is very clean as well; there aren't many dusty bottles. Definitely check this place out if you're from the area!

Nice enough shop but not all that close to Oak Tree in my opinion. The selection is smaller with many fewer singles to choose from. With so many beers I've yet to try I don't always want to buy a six if I don't have too. Wine and Beverage Depot in Totowa is a lot closer to home and they let me break up sixers ever though it's not really their policy to do so.

Clean, well-lit, with very fair prices and a wide variety of wines, cheeses and snacks. Staff seemed friendly and helpful enough. Not all that many oddities or rarities I can't find elsewhere in the state, although I did pick up a bottle of Black Albert, Climax 15th anniversary and FW double jack, each of which are not things I've seen in other stores. They also have a full selection of the other Climax beers but I wasn't in the mood to buy a growler today. Overall not a bad store at all but certainly not a must-see, in my estimation

Passed by this place hundreds of times before finally walking in the door. Now I'm kicking myself so waiting so long, because it's just head and shoulders above the other local options. You'll find stuff you won't get elsewhere, plain and simple. Your average liquor store wouldn't put vintage Bigfoot on the shelf, but this one did. I suppose it's a little pricey, buy if you're looking at this I imagine you're willing to spend a bit more for the good stuff. If you're into beer and like having 100 good options to choose from, this is where you want to go.

I live 5 minutes from Shoprite of Westfield and 15 minutes from the vaunted Oak Tree BuyRite, and I probably haven't been to Oak Tree in over a year. Shoprite Westfield has an excellent selection of craft beer at decent prices. They always seem to get a good allocation of the must-haves, which is great. Pete, the beer manager (ATPete on BA), keeps a steady flow of new beer on the shelf and has gone out of his way on more than one occasion to score me hard-to-get stuff. Thanks Pete! Even in the off-chance Pete is not around, I have always been pleased with the rest of the beer crew and their knowledge of what they have on the shelf.

Shop Rite Liquors of Westfield has a great selection of rare, imported and micro brewed beers (I was told that there are over 400 different beers). I would highly recommend this store for the beer connoisseurs. I enjoy walking around and just reading labeles of different beers. The down side is that it is very hard to make a decision what I want to buy. I want to buy everything I've not tried before. Besides beers there is huge selection of wines, spirits, imported cheeses. The prices are on the high side though.

Prices are very reasonable without any price gouging for rarer finds. That said some of the stock can become dated and it can be difficult to tell just how fresh your purchase is. If you can get a hold of the few people who know their stuff they can help with your purchase. I have had issues calling up and asking if they have a beer in stock and was told they do to find it isn't available and won't receive their shipment for another week or two (just the other day asked for Nugget Nectar). That said they offer the best selection in the area, but I've found Oak Tree Buy Rite worth the drive for better service at a slightly increased price.

This is one of the better liquor stores in the area. Prices are good and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. There is a very good sized aisle with a ton of craft from all over the country as well as a few imports that are a bit rare. The beer manager, pete, there knows a ton and is always willing to talk about beer and is great with recommendations and suggestions. Living close to Oak Tree in south plainfield, service and qualitywise i prefer this store. While the selection is not as big, it goes for quality rather than quality. Definitely my go to for beer.

This is one of my favorite places to find and buy craft beer. Granted it is a bit pricey at times. Especially since they hold on to older vintages and sell them 2-3 years down the road. However, you cannot deny the quality and value a place like this offers. I can find 2008 Bigfoot here! Their selection is always in season and if you want something specific, they will tell you if they can get it and when. I could spend hours there if I had the time and the money. Without a doubt, one of the best places in NJ to find craft beer.

Found this place on BA after searching for a decent shop near my in-laws house in Edison. Glad I chose this one. Store itself is pretty decent size, clean, well organized and devotes an entire aisle to the "good stuff". Being from Ct, my reward from my wife for visiting my in-laws is to make a stop at Shop Rite to stock up on the things I can't get at home ie Green Flash, Founders, Bear Republic, Flying fish etc..Selection is always great and ATPete, the man behind the beer, knows his stuff. He always seems to be on top of the game as far as whats new and whats hot. As far as service, I can't say enough. Most recent example, stopped in a few weekends ago and as I was browsing and filling my cart, Pete came out to say hello, inquired about how my bar was doing and then offered up the final 4pack of Backwoods Bastard he had in the back room. And on several other occasions, when my wife has stopped in on my behalf during solo trips to NJ, Pete's been very helpful in suggesting things to her that he thought I might appreciate.
Overall, if you're anywhere even remotely close to Westfield, I highly reccomend stopping and saying hi to Pete. Even when he's not there, the satff are very helpful, there's always plenty of beer on the shelves and the selection is worth the trip (don't pass up checking out the cheese selection as well).

The Shop Rite Liquor in Westfield is definitely one of the top beer stores in the area. It is clean and well organized with a large selection of American craft beers and a good selection of Belgians and German beers. When you walk into this store, you can instantly tell they are devoted to craft beer. There are large displays with Dogfish, Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn, and other "larger" craft brewers. In one aisle you will find all of the craft selection with a good choice of cold beers if you want. One of the best things about Shop Rite is the way they support Climax, brewed in Roselle Park about 5 minutes from the store. A growler of Climax can be had for around $8.99 and is usually the freshest beer in the store. That being said, you never get the feeling that any beer here has been sitting too long. Unlike some of the "big time" stores in the area there is no dust layer on any of the bottles. Perhaps the only thing holding this store back is a make your own six pack area, but this can be easily forgotten about by checking out the sales this store often runs. BA member ATPete deserves much credit for the operation he runs at this Shop Rite and any BA members in Northern/Central New Jersey should try to stop and check out this store's solid selection.

Found this Gem in search of one of my favorite fall offerings(Harvest Wet Hop)from Sierra Nevada. Emailed a BA member and he turned out to be in charge of the beer here; thanks ATPete. A very nice guy with knowledge about beer. The selection was fantastic and laid out well too. This is the kind of place I'm willing to travel almost 80 miles round trip for a good beer selection, and did. Could have spent more time looking but had to get back to NY. Prices where on par I would say. Couldn't go too high on quality and service considering it was my first visit but it won't be my last. Left with my wet hop, a 4 pack of Hop Rod Rye and a 6 of Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale. I'm very hoppy with my visit here. Cheers!

Good Ole Shop Rite this is my go to place when I am back in Jersey its right down the street from my mothers house you cant beat that. Any how the selection is always great, a good amount of stuff in the fridges and on the floor. Plus there is a huge shelf about a supermarket isle long behind those. The service is always phenomenal ATPete is always there to help and let you know what has just been released or has just gotten back in stock. The prices always pretty damn good most things are cheaper then more renowned Oak Tree of South Plainfield yet the selection is not as enormous.

All and all a great store and I am lucky to have lived so close to it and everyone should check this place out.

p.s. they have a great cheese selection

Stopped in here last year to pick up a few bottles and say hello to ATPete who has done a great job with this place. Great selection of US Craft and imports in the back left hand corner of the store. Staff (sans Pete) is semi-knowledgeable and fairly eager to help out. Not a store I'd go out of my way to visit but a solid place for great brew in that area indeed! I remember picking up some 2007 Chimay Blue Label Magnums myself. ATPete was going to try to give me a free promo tshirt from a brewery that had recently been featured, but they were out of them. Can be a bit tricky to find from the parkway so I recommend bringing your GPS unit.

Certainly a huge step above any other Shoprite liquors I've been to.. The selection is pretty great and large. Tons of craft stuff, not just your typical craft finds (tons of peche mortel, b.o.r.i.s., founders imperial stout in June, etc. rather then jsut dogfish's year round releases).. The singles selection could stand to be a little larger (and a bit cheaper, I saw some singles for up to $1.75 more than they are at other near by stores), but its definitely great. I also was really impressed with teh cheese, hot sauce, and other food selections. Definitely a place to drop by often.

This place is a hidden gem in Jersey right now. The selection is expansive and it seems to have rapid turnover as the bottles are clean as is the store itself. The service is very good as the staff seems to have tried quite a bit of what is on the shelf. The prices are very good. I got Black Albert here for less than what I paid at a highly regarded NJ store. Which brings up another point, I think they have different reps for their craft distributors than certain stores in the South Plainfield/Edison area have. This enables them to get things (like Black Albert) that some other good stores might be lacking as most product is allocated by rep. In short a quality place.

I only started shopping here recently and I'm kicking myself for not going sooner

Selection- Very large selection of 6-packs and Bombers, both warm and cold. Just about every craft brewery that distributes in New Jersey is available here and a large Belgian selection also

Service- The beer manager here knows his stuff and is always getting new items in weekly from all around the country and world.

Valve- This is the only liquor store that I have ever been to where they have a large selection of craft beer that is on sale (Founders, Climax off the top of my head for example) (compared to the weekly specials on 30-packs of macros at most stores). All prices are well within a reasonable range

Overall, highly recommended if you are in the area, everyone talks about Oak Tree, I think the selection is comparable minus some vintage stuff, but the prices are much better.

Stopped by this store for the first time today looking for something specific, and low and behold...they had it. Which was surprising in and of itself.

The store has plenty of parking and was easy to find...always a plus.

The store was very well organized and clean. The majority of the store is wine, but the beer selection is excellent.

After just a quick glance through the beer selection and it is easy to tell that it is devoted to craft beer. Excellent selection of American craft, Belgian, and various imports. The Gueze selection was slightly lacking, but I won't hold it against them.

I was greeted very shortly after entering the store, which was surprising considering it was the middle of the day on a Thursday. Not a time when stores are usually well staffed.

I had a great conversation with Pete, who was very knowledgeable and engaging. He offered talked knowledgably about new beers coming into the state and offer help procuring the harder to get beer.

I can highly recommend this store both for its selection and service.

you should check this place out if you are anywhere near. I visited for the first time today and was pleased with the service and the price. I talked with the guy in charge of the beer section and he was very helpful. I picked up a couple of Stone AnNiversary and some other good stuff. I think this place is better than any other around. I wouldnt say it has a better selection than Oak Tree but it does have specials on the beer and I was able to save 2+ bucks on my 6-pack that I picked up.I would suggest this place !
