Würzburger Hofbräu AG "Würzburger Hofbräu Premium Pilsner"
$7/pint @ Wm. Mulherin's Sons, Philadelphia, PA on 3 February 2018

Notes: Crystal clear deep golden body beneath a limited head of white (dirty bar glass?). No lacing is left behind but I'll have to give it the benefit of the doubt as that seems very odd for a German beer. The aroma delivers herbal and spicy hops over a lightly sweet grainy malt. The flavor follows as is usually the case. Nicely balanced by a very firm bitterness that leads to a dry finish with some residual bitterness, malt, and herbal and spicy hops. Medium bodied and lightly crisp. Overall, basic in many ways but isn't every Pilsner? And it's very well done. Certainly worth trying.

Poured from a brown 12oz bottle stamped Best Before End 2022/05 to a pilz glass at fridge temp.
Nice clear gold body with constantly rising nucleated bubbles rising the entire session. Ultra white head is about 3-fingers high and made of fairly large bubbles. Lacing is medium to good for half the sesion but fades to mediocre by the end.
The aroma is grassy with mild hop notes and a nice sweetness. No off flavors.
Taste is similar but with a heavier crisp hop character, not overpowering, decently balanced.
Mouth feel is thin, oily and well carbonated. Dare I say "crushable" as it probably should be.
Overall a great Pilsner.

This one pours a clear yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like floral and mildly spicy hops, and lightly sweet bready malt.

This smells like mildly sweet bready and crisp malt character, with a nice smattering of floral hops on top.

This does a good job of balancing all of the expected pilsner flavors, and remaining quite balanced and very drinkable.

This is a really solid and super drinkable pilsner. It's definitely worth a purchase.

not terrible. looks ok. Carb could be a little better. has a strange presence of alcohol heat which is bizarre at 4.9% abv. Got some of that grape like munich malt tone to the flavor. Not bad but would prefer to try in germany on draft instead of a bottle across the atlantic.

Fairly light, but still nicely malty and with gentle European hops.

The pour is golden yellow with a steady flow of carbonation. The taste is barley & corn. Cheers! B

L: Golden and clear. Lower end of active (indicating some exposure to the environment during fermentation and it's less filling). Glossy surface.

S: Buttery barley with a bit of attitude.

T: That's a pilsner style alright. They tend to be light but with extra hops.

F: Beer is made for drinking.

O: No complaints.

How can something be so good and yet have no memory of it! It might have been my 5th beer in a row.

A nice Bavarian pilsner with a little crisp wang at the end of the sip that fades into sweet, barbarian Alemanni goodness. Würzburg was famous for its witch persecutions, which were mitigated somewhat by the lusty demonesses being given a pinch of this heavenly brew, ostensibly to help them through hell. I'm no historian, but color me convinced!

BB date of 2020/04

Absolutely clear gold, with 1/2 finger of white head, that never completely disappears. 3/8" of lacing above the 1/8" ring of foam. A truly beautiful beer.

Smell is moderately floral(Northern Snow Bedstraw/Goldenrod -ish) ,slightly fruity , similar , but less intense, than apple juice, lightly bready, as in white bread fresh out of the oven .

Taste is similar to aroma, but less sweet, and less fruity. Light to light-moderate , pleasant, bitterness builds towards finish, giving a drying effect . That bitterness moderates the sweeter floral/fruity/bready notes, to good effect .

Feel is appropriately light, with very fine carbonation tingle, that adds to the drying finish.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyable. Though this is the first time reviewing it, I've had this many times . The experience being so pleasurable, I just never bothered to interrupt it with analysis. :) Highly recommend it!

Love myself a good German pilsener, and have a few bottles given to me by my cousin Matt because he got them as part of a beer of the month thing he wasn't a fan of. Thanks for the donation, cousin!

Pours a gorgeous clear golden color that holds up a spectacular collar of white foam. This beer is just beautiful, seriously. It's clear, filtered, and ready-to-go, but also has a retentive foamy head and immense, consistent lace with superb legs. One of the best looking pale beers I've seen of late, and out-of-this-world appearance for a pilsner.

The nose is apple skin, floral notes, apricot, and light pale malt crispness. It just gives off this unassailable "pilsner" aspect that feels timeless for sure. Some light spicy hops and apricot with a tough of pilsner malt below the surface. Maybe a little grassy as well.

Complex flavor profile of floral notes, apricot, earthy hops, floral notes, red apple, light grape, and a touch of Noble bitterness at the end of each sip. This stuff is hard to review because not much happens, but I love how simple and effective it is. A refreshing initial feel that gives off a fun and drinkable aspect. Clean crackery malt bill with Noble hops filling in the holes. Extremely easy to drink, beautiful beer with a controlled bitterness and floral hop character. Excellent!

4 months from the BB date.
Not a bad beer, lighter than usual on the hops a little heavier than usual on the yeast. It's just not a really good good beer.
It might have been the age, but the taste and feel were thin and, overall, it wasn't very satisfying. There are much better pilsners out there.

Edit: In spite of the picture showing a green bottle, the ones I picked up were brown so it seems they have transitioned to brown bottles for the imports.

Pours a crystal clear golden color. Pillowy white head dissipates steadily but never completely leaving a ring of foam along the outside of the beer. Sticky white lacing clings to the glass in layers as the beer is consumed. Somewhat effervescent.

Aroma has notes of nice bready malts, slightly sweet, with some more crackery pilsner malts coming through. Touch of spicy hops interplays with the aroma.

Taste follows the nose with notes of bready malts, light melanoidin notes, and an earthy grassy hop bitterness coming throughout the flavor profile. Hints of light honey and biscuit notes come through out. The breadiness lingers throughout the beer.

Feel is light, crisp and vivacious. Brightly carbonated. supremely drinkable.

Overall an outstanding German pilsner. When fresh its one of the better ones you can find on shelves in the US.

From the Bottle, it pours a golden color with a 1-2 inch head that is constantly replenished by a steady stream of bubbles but slowly dissipates as you watch it. Pleasant, hoppy scent. The taste is classic pilsner bitter. Nice!

Crystal clear straw yellow body with a soapy 1 1/2 finger white head that leaves nice lacing.
A simple but lovely aroma of fresh bread with floral, spicy noble hops greets the nose.
The taste is a little bready, a little doughy with hints of grain. The hops are a good balance for the malt with an even spiciness with floral notes. A bit of husk shows itself in the middle.
Medium body with a soft and delicate mouth feel with moderate carbonation.

This beer makes me happy.
