Presentation: 11.2 oz green long neck bottle with no freshness date.

Appearance: Straw yellow in colour with a wonderful Brussels style lace.

Smell: Spicy mix of European noble hops the are a bit herbal and lemony. Grain is in the back ground.

Taste: Moderately bodied with an exceptionally smooth and crisp mouth feel. Slightly assertive spicy bitterness leaves a tingling bitter trail with herbal and lemony notes. Light yet fresh grain hits the palate with a mild husky astringency which seems to dry this beer up in the finish.

Notes: Its all you want in a typical German Pilsner, I’d choose this one any day over the mass marketed beers of the same style . Good drinking all around.

Pours clear and golden with fat and sumptuous head of foam that is slow to fall. Perfect bubbles can be observed as you wait. The unique character in the pils is in it's deep breadiness. The malt is dry, crisp and not too sweet. The nose brings you white bread, a demure touch of floral hop. On the palate the malt is doughy and smooth but also crisp. Moderate carbonation brings it across the palate delightfully. The hops are cool and herbal. They finish the beer with a touch of sweetness to compliment the dapper malt. Good rich grain, a bit husky. The bitter is steadfast and a bit more than moderate The carbonation refreshes the palate and lets the bitter linger while all that bread is brought to the swallow. A surpising moment of richness, then a light lemon crisp hop to finish it dry and with a slight astringent bite. Very sophisticated.

For me this is a pils that stands far above the rest in a style where excellence is expected. This one has earned my highest recommendation.

Found some of this locally with a decent best-by date of May 2017 -- and no more green bottle. I used to see Würzburger around all the time, but just like most of the imports -- not so much anymore. I first had this beer at the Würzburger Hofbräu proper on my first visit to Germany in 1990. A favorite beer for a favorite, beautiful town.

$8 six-pack of brown, 11.2 ounce bottles. Poured into my .3 liter Becher glass.

L -- Clear, deep golden with a dense and tall white head that sustains impressively.

S -- Light DMS and spicy hops up front with mellow breadiness back.

T -- Bready melanoidin malt up front with spicy, bitter noble hops in tow. The sweet breadiness lingers through the finish and the hops round off the aftertaste with herbal bitterness.

F -- Mouthfeel is soft up front to crisp and lightly dry in the finish with a medium light body.

O -- Anyone wanting to understand German Pilsner should find this beer fresh. It's hoppy and bitter, yet sweet and malty at the same time. Noble hops stand it out from most current "craft" renditions, but don't shy from assertiveness. I'll be looking for more of this one.

Poured into a pilsner a lighter straw color with a fluffy blooming white head that left multiple rings of lace as it settled pretty quickly.Aromas of bread dough and light floral hops,a tinge of mineral/iron came thru as well.Lighter and almost delicate on the palate, light honey sweetness with that bread dough element are the dominant flavors,a leafy hop note becomes more present as I drink more.A pretty darn good pilsner, more delicate than most American versions,a nice quaffer on a seriously hot day.

Appearance – This one poured a light, hazy yellow in color with a huge, fluffy, white head.

Smell – The light noble hops and grain were smothered by skunk. Too bad, because otherwise it probably would have had a nice aroma.

Taste – The hops here are good. They are light and easy but get stepped on by the heavy-handed grain. The grain isn’t bad, it’s just too heavy for the style. The finish though is nice with a bit of sweetness at the end.

Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is good and light just as it should be.

Drinkability – This is a bit grainy for the style but a nice effort nevertheless.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle, was a little cloudy with a great deal of carbonation and lacing. Nice hop taste that stick with you. Better than some of the more popular and famous German pilsners I've tried. A good choice for the price ($8.99 for a six pack)

Pours clear, gold in color with beautiful one inch head. Smells really fresh. Taste is grain, grass, and cereal. Earthy, nice combination of sweet and bitter, light bodied and really drinkable. Overall a really impressive German pilsner. Glad I got several of these. Will get this again.

once again it's time to re-review. I love to review again, years after my first to see what has changed....my opinion or palate or the beer itself. My newest review is after the original. Marked *
11.2 oz. green bottle > Pilsner glass

This is a totally clear yellow-gold color with only mild carboantion for this style. Looks a bit too mellow....the crown rises low and falls quick as a lacy-white sheeth.

Aroma's of: Gentle Bavarian yeast, sour...nut metallic(uh oh) Stale corn and fresh husks with a a cesar salad scent in the hops.

This has a thin, flat malt flavor that struggles to achieve crispy wheat...more like canned corn and stale bread! Metallic, sour yeast runs wild all over the place....nowhere to hide! There's a green peppers flavor to the hops, finishing with a white rice flavor.

Light, nearly crisp at first but a bit to mellow to be refreshing.

Second review: 5/2/17
* a clear 11.2 oz bottle poured into a "polish" Pils glass.

Totally clear gold color, solid carbonation that forms a chunky, crystal-whitebrocky foam cap. Slow dissipation.

A zippy and herbal scented malt, white bread, corn, earthy and spicy yeast and hop thing....an excellent nose, very classic and rather aromatic. The "herbs and spices" side of the aroma is very deep and complex. Excellent for the style.

A crisp bite and medium mouthfeel, very clean, very refreshing with a perfect dry bite to the finish. Seems to mellow out pretty fast as the malty body comes to be more prevelant.

The balance to this style is just right, light and crispy bready malt goes a long way with zippy sour yeast, herbs and spices from the hop and yeast, old-world complexity at it's finest (for an import). I get subtle touches of green grass and veggies, black pepper and green apples. Interesting to the point where you find yourself sipping, but easily crushed! A classic, bar-setter for this style.

Appearance-Poured from a bottle to pilsner glass. About 2 1/2 fingers worth of pure white head settles into a fine mist. Perfectly clear with a yellow tint.

Aroma- Pilsner is a smell all its own and this has that great clean floral like smell inviting you to take a sip.

Taste-Earthy straw like taste. Very clean, crisp, and just a bit of unpleasent bitterness. Maybe a bit more malt to compete with the hops would be nice.

Mouthfeel-Snappy and crisp. Average carbonation.

drinkability-Very smooth easy drinking and tasty. Not too complex. Good beer to have while watching the game.

20OZ Stein poured on tap

A: Crystal clear body with a dirty gold almost amber body. The head was huge and creamy looking.

S: Bright floral hops lead the way with nice toasted grains and some doughy bready malts.

T: Very bright tasting the floral hops really lead the way giving way to some nice light toasted malts and a fine crisp bready finish.

M: Light crisp wih just the smallest cling on the tongue in the finish, finishes fairly dry as well.

O: This is a fantastic pilsner, easy drinking with great flavor.

Ordered a half liter at Zum Schneider in the East Village. It's a brilliant clear yellow with a tall white head.

This is a classic German pils, dry, hoppy, and with a distinct mineral taste and aroma. You can really taste the hard German water that shapes this beer. The malts are a dry bread and biscuit blend while the hops are peppery with a touch of earth. All in all a very tasty a drinkable beer. It went great with my sausage platter.

Poured a yellow/orange with a faint soap ring off white head.

The smell is light with a bit of sweetness.

The flavor has a muted toasty grain quality with just a hint of light citrus and a bit of biscuit.

The mouthfeel is light with mild carbonation and a long dry finish.

An easy drinking solid german pils.

Clear and brilliant straw color with a medium sized frothy head and a thin lacing. Brilliant clear and crisp beer. The aroma of grains and herbal hops. Some light malt and vegetables, grassy. The taste is sweet but has a mild spice character with herbal and citrus hints. I tasted grains as well with a good touch of hops, lemony. The feel was smooth with a really good balance. Medium carbonation and and a light body. Mouth feel is light bodied and spot on for the style. Finished dry and crisp. Moderately creamy for the style. Lightly fizzy. Very nice example of a German Pils.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to tall pills glass. Very nice carbonation and a white white head, very fluffy, billows like a cloud. The liquid is oh so light a pale faded straw color. One of the lightest I have seen.

The smell is of Malt & some alcohol, quite nice but faint.

The taste is surprisingly bold, Wow Lots of malt here, like a helles. Hops are good, nice light bitter. Perfect for a pills

The mounthfeel is thick and coating very nice full body, and the carbonation work perfect. Crisp and clean, very refreshing.

The drinkability very high, a classic drinking pills. Prost und Zum Wohl! MK

Pours a golden straw color with a fluffy white head that fades quicky.

Aroma of herbal hops jump out along with the faint note of cooked veggies.

Very easy pils to drink. The hops are a little overpowered by the malts but nothing serious.

Good brew.
