500 ml bottle with a BB date stamp of Feb. 2016 poured into a lager glass.

A - Pours cloudy, very dark mahogany in color, with a generous and persistent tan head.

Aroma: Sweet aroma of banana, dark bread and light spices.

Flavor - mild, with banana, wheat, sweet caramel malt, light clove. About equally bitter and sweet.

Feel - lively high carbonation seems too high. Light body.

Overall: lively and refreshing.

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a ruby rustic looking brown, with a foamy white head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells really really nutty, with some caramel, toasty brown bread, and clovey weizen yeast.

All of the flavors here go together quite well and complement each other. This is super nutty in a great way, with some caramel and toffee. The weizen yeast is restrained and complementary here, no real banana, but some bitter clove with some slight citrus. Real nice stuff.

This is lighter bodied, with a crisp mouthfeel, and a higher level of carbonation.

Nice little sleeper here, haven't had a whole lot of dunkelweizens, but this seems like one of the better ones for sure.

Julius Echter Hefe-Weiss Dunkel has a very thick, mauve head, an initially clear, fiercely-bubbly, rust-brown appearance, and heavy lacing globs left on the glass. The beer clouds up, once the caked sediment is swished loose and poured in. The aroma is of spiced bread, prunes, banana, and banana cream pie. Taste is of those elements, with no bitterness factor, but some acidity showing up. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Julius Echter Hefe-Weiss Dunkel finishes drinkable and on the dry side.

Nice, lightweight hefe-dunkel for summertime drinking, spicy taste and not too heavy on the banana.

Pours a ruby brown with a foamy light mocha head that lasts a while. Aroma is of dark fruit, raisins being the signature. Also hints of rum, molasses and wet wood. Taste is sweet with bready/grainy malts, honey and hints of maple syrup. Lighter bodied than the color would indicate, it builds up a foam in the mouth and has a medium carbonation. A very drinkable beer that loses its luster in the final sips.

L: It pours light brown with a light chill haze under a 3” moussey cream to light tan colored foam collar that slowly dissipates. S: Opening the cap releases a big bouquet of banana, malt and clove. T: The palate starts with a big mouthful of creamy spiced malts with banana and a light touch of clove. F: Just above medium body and medium low carbonation. It is very creamy. O: A delightful, sessionable Dunkelweizen

Very well carbonated. Pours a thick tan colored head. Smells sweet like a wheat beer with soft sweet notes. Taste and feel is rich and light malt. Very smooth.

Look - Thick head if poured aggressively. Thick bubbles and not retained. Dirty ivory as opposed to tan. The color is unique. It is lighter than a brown ale. It had a red tint too.

Smell - Malt. Brown sugar. Wheat/grass. Sour. Faint chocolate.

Taste - Malt. Sour. Sweet and sour. I am not sure where the alcohol is.

Feel - Very carbonated in the throat. Creamy until swallowed. Heavier than other wheat beers.

Overall - This is one of the first dark beers I liked. It pulled me away from wheats and in to stouts. I really like this beer.

New to this style, I really enjoy wiezenbock so had to try. Deep amber/light-brown pour with off-white sticky head - looks great! Aroma of ripened fruit, yeast, and some wheaty malt. Flavors are mostly the same - not a a thing - with a touch of sweetness. Finish is a bit dry as the flavor quickly fades.
