The Four Firkins is a relatively small beer store located in a quiet strip mall on Minnetonka Boulevard in St. Louis Park. Given the size of the store, parking is ample and they have a bike rack for those of us traveling on two wheels. They're located kitty corner from one of the best Asian restaurants in the area, ThanhDo, so that's a bonus as well.

What they lack in size they more than make up with in quality and selection. You won't find liquor or macros at the Four Firkins and you'll only find a small amount of special wines. Beer, however, is plentiful and includes a good representation of locals (Summit, Surly, Flat Earth, Brau Brothers, Cold Spring...), imports and micros. There are a lot of beers in this little space that I haven't seen in other places. Since they're small, inventory has turned fast and on every visit, I've seen something new.

Lots of 750s and singles and a pick-six to be reckoned with. I like that they've organized the place by style as well. It's a little different than some, but it's a cool way to explore particular styles. On top of that, Alvey is a super nice guy and always ready to make a solid recommendation.

Prices are fair and fairly comparable for most things. You'll find better deals on 12 packs of Summit at the bigger places, but by and large, the prices are comparable.

I'll be back... weekly. A bright new addition to an already great beer scene!

*My review from Yelp*

Four stars from me -- five for the fact that they had a free beer tasting when I was in (no idea how often that happes), but then three for the beer prices.

Walked in here on a Saturday before a Twins/Tigers game and they were surprisingly packed. Basically, uncomfortably packed.... there was very little room to move around. The building itself looked pretty nice and there was quite a lot of beer to be bought. The workers are really helpful and all of that good stuff, but the prices of singles at Four Firkins are bumped a little too unnecessarily high for my liking. Still, if you're looking for a specific made-in-Minnesota or shipped-to-Minnesota beer, your best chance of finding it is probably here.

The staff is very knowledgeable about beer and they go out of their way to handle the beer well. They have a steady turnover of product. I find fewer beers past their best by date here than anywhere else in the Twin Cities. Unlike some retailers, they avoid stocking antique beer.

Nice selection. Small place. Beers are overpriced but staff is knowledgable. I don't shop here often as there are far better options in Minneapolis. Kind of a newbies bottle shop. Probably wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

They pack a ton of great beer into a small space. I love the look of it - the woodwork is beautiful. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The selection is really great here, with a great variety of midwest/MN beers along with some nice imports. I will definitely go back!
