I've visited On Tap Sports Cafe in Hoover a few time in the past. It's a cool place to grab a few brews. As we all know, service is hit or miss at these kind of places. I've been waited on by folks who did not want to be there and by people who seemed glad to be alive. You never know what you're going to get. On Tap has a better beer selection than most places in the Birmingham area. They have a pretty nice draft beer selection. I've had Harpoon IPA and Hoegaarden among others. Never tried the food so I can't comment on that. Overall, a good place to visit if you're in the area.

Edit: Now that the hops have been freed here in Alabama, On Tap now has a much better beer selection. Will visit in the future and sample some of the new selections.

Went to this place almost every night on a business trip because it was right across the street. The atmosphere was fairly average... Kinda Applebee's-like... Nothing special, very basic. The beer selection was great, especially for Alabama. Lots of rotating taps and local offerings... They are not great at updating their menus though, often having beers they are out of and not putting new ones on. They only way you would know they were there is by looking at the taps close up yourself. We also noticed that some of the tap lines didn't seem to be cleaned with a lot of off flavors popping up. The service was pretty terrible and very slow, which really sucked because otherwise the place would be pretty awesome.

Pretty nice place - over 85 beers on tap with extensive selection in many varieties. I would have to believe that there is something for everyone on the beer menu.

Food was good - typical pub fare. My Hot and Bleu Burger was exactly as advertised and enjoyable. They have regular drink specials nightly and happy hour 4-7 as well.

I visited on a Friday night about 6 p.m. and got seated right away although the place was hopping (no pun intended)with some large groups and others at the bar and table/booths. This place has a pub feel to it and they were not in a hurry to rush me out the door either.

While not a brewpub with brewing on premises - I give them an A- overall. :)

I stopped here on a drive through Birmingham, and was treated to a special time. It was Sunday and there was a lively but polite crowd of NFL enthusiasts shouting at the numerous widescree TVs scattered throughout the place. Nice atmosphere: clean, woody, but a bit too dark for my pleasure. What really gave me pleasure was the food and especially the beer. There are about 20 taps with brews ranging from micros such as Nashville's Yazoo Dos Perros, to the standard European fare such as Guinness, and three good macrocraft brews from Sam Adams. There are more than one hundred selections in bottles, so there's plenty to keep and brew fan interested. The food, basic pub fare, was very fresh and very well prepared. I had some of their boiled shrimp from just off the coast, and they were super. The service was friendly, not too fast, and quite good. I am certain to stop in again on my next trip through town.
