Festival Bière et Saveur 08. Best of this new brewpub. Dark with a mocha head and lace. Good carbonation. Neutral aroma. The taste gets better,it grows on you, its a thick mouthfeel. There was a sourness characteristic that didn't work too much against it but was a surprise to the brewmaster himself.

The body is a very dark brown with a cream-coloured head. Good retention and lacing.

Lots of grain on the nose along with some dark malt. Hops seem very similar to what you'd find in a pilsner; very grassy.

The bottle is admittedly young for a quad and it shows; it's a little hot on the alcohol still. Flavours of dark fruits and dark malt, good earthy hops, grass, rum-soaked raisins, light pumpernickel, little cocoa powder. Drying earthy finish.

Medium light body and carbonation. Could be thicked-bodied with a fuller carbonation.

The Special B is still a little too hot and not totally balanced, being overly bitter with not enough malt to back it up. Also, not nearly as complex as I'd like for a quadrupel. If I were to buy this again, it would be to cellar it for a few years. I wouldn't recommend opening this stuff in the near future.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of light dry fruit with fruity ester and some nice caramelized malt notes is very enticing. Taste is a wonderful mix between some fruity ester with light dry fruits notes with a solid Belgian malt backbone with some caramelized notes. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice level of complexity while retaining a very good drinkability factor.

650ml shared by eat - thanks man!

Pours a dark mahaogany with hints of purple and amber, big cascading head with some retention.

While there's no major faults with the beer it just doesn't come together and doesn't have the complexities associated with the top-tier quads. Licorice, bready malts, hints of spicing, alcohol/ethanol, molasses, dark fruits, earth, light grassy drying finish. Alcohol is to evident and simply too rough. Would love some more complexities in the malt and a better integration of flavors that stand out a little better.

750ml Bottle

Appearance - Dark brown colour with a large size frothy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for only a few minutes.

Smell - Malts, dark fruits, grains

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and the taste is made up of malts, dark fruits, and a hint of chocolate. There is also a bit of butterscotch flavour and a hint of smoke. I can also pick up on the alcohol quite a bit. It ends with a dark fruit and malt aftertaste with a bit of lingering heat from the booze.

Overall - Good, not great. There are some good flavours going on but I can pick up on the booze a little too much and the mouthfeel is a touch watery.

A: Pours really dark brown with a really good light beige head. Retention is good and lacing is really good. Head is creamy.

S: The nose is quite light in strength. But it is your typical quad. Quite strong on the spiced bread, the nuts, the molasses, the dark fruits (cherries, plum). Typical belgian yeast character with green apples, coriander, pepper and cinnamon. Some milk chocolate.

T: Like the smell, it is very generic without much flaws but without being interesting. The overall taste is light in strength but there is some alcohol in this too. The fruits are the main element with the raisins, cherries, green apple and plum. Coriander is quite strong in this with spiced bread, nuts, molasses, light pepper and cinnamon. Some cloves.

M: It is good but it is not appropriate for the style. It is medium to heavy in feel, carbonation is medium and the whole thing is quite smooth.

O: This is not bad by any means, but it is not interesting too. THere are a lot of quads much more interesting for less money. The only redeeming quality is the fruity taste.

750ml bottle poured into tulip 30/10/12, 2011 bottle sent out by unibroue4ever cheers Yannick

A deep cola edge in a very dark brown body, large beige foam sticks around for a couple minuets leaving a few thick rings followed by random patches

S sour plums, lots of brown sugar, brewers candy, nutty toffee with more over-ripe dark fruits and spices. I pick up on dark breads and just a hint of booze as it warms, there's a fair bit going on with this one very well done in this department

T some faint banana on top of what I smell, a little more booze and much more spice, pretty solid stuff but the nose had a little more going on

M medium weight but has a nice amount of bubbles, faint heat, a little grit and just a little sticky on the lips, you feel the booze more in your chest then you throat, a little coco and dark fruit on the finish with just a hint of leather

O under-rated beer for sure, much better then the ratings would have me believe, perhaps my bottles mellowed out a bit because there's a nice mix of spice, sugars and a little booze

I'm not sure where the love is for this brew, looks like I'm way above the average yet again. It goes down pretty fast, I had no issues with tackling the big bottle solo

Consumed Nov. 19, 2011 at Inaugural Bottle Share. From notes. Thanks Nicole!

A: Muddy brown and hazy. Little head that fades quickly to a small ring.
S: Light raisins and figs with a hint of roasted malt. Light belgian esters and a hint of earth.
T: Raisins and figs along with sweetness. There is little belgian character going on here.
M: Low carbonation and dry.
O: Not much going on here and certainly not what it claims to be. A forgettable beer that was outclassed at this tasting by a home-brewed belgian table beer.

Is this a first bottling from Brouhaha? Either way, a beautiful label. Thanks to Colin for sharing.

Murky brown pour with a light tan head that exhibits good retention and puts down some good spots of lace. Mild dark fruit, spice, brown sugar and alcohol nose-nothing too special. Flavour is much of the same... more or less generic quad with no obvious flaws, yet nothing to make is special. Again, dark fruit, cherry, sugar, alcohol. Passable, but again, not special, and sadly I only try to drink special these days. Body could do with a boost to up the intensity of the flavours.

Drinkable, but not at this price.
