If you're in the downtown Alexandria area, this is your spot.
Service and selection cannot be beat. Never smoky; never too crowded. Ample seating and clean restrooms. Local, live music often. Also, I've never seen a fight break out, so, it's got that going for it.

Best pub in the state hands down. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable particularly with craft beer. They have the largest beer selection in town and carry some I can't find anywhere else in the area.
The prices are reasonable compared to most places and the atmosphere is a very cool and authentic looking Irish pub.if youre ever in the area, stop by and you won't regret it.

Best Pub in town to get a craft brew. 14 taps & tons of Bombers and 12 oz. bottles. Large selection of liquor. and great cocktails. Features live music most weekends. Everyone is super friendly. Great happy hour 4-8 p.m. and daily specials. Check Finnegans out on St. Patty's day for one of the best parties in Louisiana.

In an effort to avoid being redundant, I can say that anything good that you've heard (or read) about this place is absolutely true. It's the gem of Alexandria and by far one of the best pubs in the state.

Respect the staff and they'll more than respect you. They're mostly what makes the place so great. All of the regulars love the place and the people just as much as the owners do.

If you catch them during special events or holidays, there's usually food available and it's occasionally complimentary. You can't ask for more.

Good people, good beer, good prices, good service, good times.

I really wasn't expecting to walk into this place in downtown Alexandria...it's hard to find anything in that part of the state outside of your typical loud, BMC-dominated club-type bars and grimy holes-in-the-wall.

I first hit Finnegan's in 2009, and whenever business brings me back around Alexandria, it's the only place I even bother going anymore.

In a bigger city, or even a like-sized city somewhere else, the beer selection would be considered pretty pedestrian, but they've got most of the bases covered. The tap selection's pretty small, and the bottle selection isn't gigantic, but there's enough there to keep the mouth happy, and the atmosphere is a lot of fun.

The staff have always been of the extremely-friendly and talkative variety and seem awfully knowledgeable and willing to talk about craft beer. I've run into the owner there a couple of times, and he seems to be a pretty friendly guy.

I'm a big fan of the wainscoting in this place--it gives it a traditional feel--and there's some kind of "earn your permanent mug" thing going on there, but not being from the area I've never cared enough to ask about the details.

I do know that they rotate selections through there, as there have been different choices each time I've been (maybe 6 or 7 times over the last couple of years), always with a multiple selections from my personal-taste "mandatory" styles (the IPAs, Imperial Stouts, and Trappists) and seasonals.

Maybe not worth the drive to Alexandria, but if you ever find yourself stuck there, it's the diamond in the rough.

I made a brief stop into this bar near the end of a work trip. The outside of this Irish Pub has the typical Irish Pub front. Parking in this area is mostly street side parallel and can get a little crowded. The inside of the bar is mostly dark hued wood. There was a "stage" area to the left of the entrance. The bar is linear to the building - front to back on the left side. There was a row of seating on the right. It looked like there was more seating in another room further back. There were dart boards and I saw one pool table. Some of the staff were carving pumpkins for Halloween when we walked in. The bar has a local feel to it and, like the other reviews indicate, it is the only place to get a good selection of beer in the entire region. They had about 10 taps and a decent selection of bottled beer. They did not have food when I visited in late October 2008. However, the bartender indicated they were going to try a limited menu in the spring. If your looking for food close by there is a very nice high-end white cotton tablecloth restaurant about two blocks away called the Diamond Grill (very nice) - come back to Finnegans Wake for more beer though.

This is truly the only bar worth going to in Central Louisiana. Though they only have 10 taps in the place, it is still the largest and best selection in the area. Also, they keep a good amount of crafts/micros/imports in bottles and rotate out different ones from time to time.

The atmosphere is probably the best thing about the place. Great carpentry along with restored antique furniture makes this place feel as if you are in an irish pub. Also, they have a pool table in the back along with a couple of dart boards. They are sure to have at least one band per weekend. They've even got some bands from Ireland to play while on tour. Not only that, but all the bartenders are very friendly and love their beer as well. one of the bartenders actually homebrews and brings his tasty concoctions up to work each time to let people get a taste.

From the minute you walk in, you can see that the owners put a lot of their time into getting this place where it is. Though there isn't much for food aside from pretzels and chips and such, they are currently in the works of installing a small kitchen where they are talking about doing pizza or what not.

Overall, if you are in the area and want to go out, this is definitely the place to go!
