J.W. Lees & Co. "Manchester Pale Ale"
cask via handpump @ Ye Cracke, Liverpool, UK
3.7% ABV

Notes: Crystal clear deep golden body with lighter golden highlights beneath a densely creamy white head. Excellent head retention and lacing leaving thick creamy lacing behind. The aroma is grassy and floral, and just a touch spicy over a grainy malt base. The flavor continues in that way with a subtly nutty grainy malt, some apple-like yeasty fruitiness, and grassy and gently spicy/herbal hop notes. A stiff bitterness balances it, perhaps just a touch too much against the malt that's there (although that goes to personal preference I guess), and it finishes bitter and dry. Light-medium in body and remarkably smooth across the palate.

Bottled at 4.1% ABV: on cask it's only 3.7% ABV.

Cask pint in La Cracke, Liverpool on 7th Feb 2014.

Dry golden ale with a white foaming head. How can anything from Manchester be dry: a fine oxymoron if ever I've heard one. Anyway this is a pleasant enough blend of hops and malts with the hops just about winning the flavour stakes in both the nose and taste.

Easy session beer with enough about it to have another and another: I couldn't as I was on a mission to drink different beers that particular evening.

A slightly hazy amber body with spritely white head

That brewers mash aroma that smells like stinky armpits

Quite a bitter edged beer, slight citrus tart and quickly becoming yeasty and intense
definitely hop forward
(Did you know that Manchester has a Statue of Abe Lincoln as a public memorial?)

Easy drinking good carbonation

Actually quite good stuff
