Ventured in here last night, in the 11 o' clock hour. The crowd was dwindling, only a couple tables and a handful at the bar. From the outside it didn't look like much of a bar, and we wondered if this was the place. It had a unique 20th century dive feel, with christmas lights on the ceiling, and a broad crescent shaped wood & laminate bar, dimly lit with several small chrome tap towers behind the bar. The vibe was 60's dive meets members club, a step up from a VFW hall, serving dinner and classic cocktails, as well as a small but well-chosen beer list.

Draft highlights: Dirty Old Man, Bedlam! IPA, Hinterland Saison, Dancing Man, and a few other local gems. Bottle list had some seasonals and interesting obscure imports, and some staple Trappists. Whiskey list was equally impressive.

Bartendress was really cool and friendly, chatting with us about local events, whiskey, and the menu there. She had a partial sleeve tattoo with an acorn design, smiled alot, and offered good advice.

Planning to come back for pizza and antipasto sometime soon, i've heard great things about the food here.

I can’t believe this place hasn’t been reviewed yet.

The Greenbush is one of the best pizza places in Madison. Its located in the basement of the Italian Workmen’s Club, and it’s quite small. It dark, has a low ceiling, and it decorated in 1970’s vintage something or other, and it all works. The staff is good, but know that when the place gets busy, it can take a little time to get served. They don’t have a huge kitchen, so if you’re in a rush, get your order in sooner than later. They have a full Italian menu, with a large portion of it being locally sources ingredients, but the real draw is the pizza. Very thin crust with the freshest topping you can find.

Their beer selection has gotten much better over the past cpl years. They only have 6 taps, usually WI beers (NG, AA, Lake Louis, Central Waters, etc) but their bottles selection is pretty good. It’s small (the whole place is small) but well done. The last time I was there, they had Bells, Founders, NG, Lagunitas, Chimay, Capital, etc.

A few things to be aware of:

If you’re still waiting for part of your group, you can put your name in for a table, but if it’s busy, they will NOT seat you until everyone is there.

It’s not ADA compliant, so if you have accessibility needs, keep in mind that you need to go down narrows stairs, including a 90 degree turn, to enter. The bathrooms are tiny as well. I know that sucks but it is what it is.

If there’s a Badger game, avoid it until after the game starts. Get there 30 min before a BB or Hockey game, and you may not even get in the door.

They do not take checks, but do take credit cards.

You cannot transfer your tab from the bar to a table, but you can eat at the bar.

Park across the street in the clinic lot, but only after 5:00. Before that, their security guy will leave you a nastygram on your windshield, and maybe a ticket if he’s feeling really surly,.
