Went Saturday around 6:30 after a round @ George Wright. We were the only ones in the place at first, which was scary.
Nice dark and warm tones, bar on the left and a dining room area took up the rest of the space. Service was friendly, and obviusly attentive, being very quiet there. About 15 beers on draft, selection was good. Had Green Flash, friends drank Allagash White. Not a hgue beer list, but probably something that anyone could find and be happy.
Had 2 appetizers, mussels and coconut battered shrimp. The shrimp was great, the mussels OK. I also had gazpacho, which was good, probably the spiciest I've ever had, due to massive onions, not that that's a bad thing. I then had mushroom ravioli, which was very, very delcious; I'd order that again in a heartbeat. My wife had steak tips and liked them; my friend had the Seafood del Mar, mussels, shrimp, fish over pasta with a cream sauce, and he loved every bite. Great food.
Overall a keeper. Fine beer selection, nice place, super food.

My wife and I stopped here on Friday night for a pre-dinner drink. Nice looking bar to the left when you walk in. There is also a cozy looking dining section to the right, complete with a fireplace. Has an old-school New England tavern feel to it. Sat on the bar side, where there was a small crowd. Service was excellent. Our bar area was wiped down as soon as we walked in, and the bartender was very friendly. The selection was amazing for a bar in the middle of Hyde Park. Townsend's had 22 taps, with 21 dedicated to craft and of course a Guinness. The beer of the month was Allagash, and there were three on tap. Others included Abita, Ommegang, Green Flash, Dale's, three Berkshires, Blue Hill, Smuttynose, Harpoon, etc. and I tried a Wrasslers Stout because I've never heard of it. Seriously great selection that I will give extra credit for. We saw the dinner menu and it looked a bit more pricey than we were going for that evening. But, when the food came out of the kitchen and people around us were eating, it looked and smelled awesome. We may have to make another trip back here to dine. Townsend's is a diamond in the rough.

Went here on the recommendation of a friend on a Saturday nite with the wife and little ones. Was prepared for a crowd, but it was a rainy night and the place was half full. Everything was shiny and up to snuff, it's obvious they pay attention to details here. Very comfortable place whether in the bar or dining room.

Nice bar with a single TV with the sound off. Couldn't quite figure out if the Irish bartender was friendly or off-putting....very strange.

Around 20 taps with a decent selection, though not approaching the typical Boston beer bar selection. Smutty Summer and Porter 12 oz were on sale for $3. Green Flash IPA tasted delicious for $6 at a full pint.

Wife and I both had the fish n chips. I'm picky about this dish and this place delivered. Fresh piece of fish beautifully fried crisp with accompanying fresh hot hand-cut fries. Food prices were a tad high...maybe a buck or 2 higher than I expected.

I will come back here again....great food and decent beer selection for an area (Hyde Park) that is underserved for craft beer.

Snuggled in the Cleary Square area of Hyde Park, Townsend's offers traditional Irish/New England dishes with a gourmet twist.

Old New England boarding house mixed with Irish decor on the inside. Huge central fireplace with actual fire (heh) makes you feel right at home. Bar to the right, with dining on the left, and secluded upstairs dining as well. Possible outdoor seating in the summer. I went during the winter but I thought I may have espied a deck out the back door.

As they profess, they do seem to be purveyors of fine food, ales, and wines. Their taps are in no way as expansive as say the Publick House or Sunset, but they offer 15-20 Taps, and 30-40 bottles selections. Selection varies from Belgian imports like Chimay, and Delerium Tremens, to local selections from Cambridge and Berkshire. A few bright and more rare choices as well. I enjoyed the 21st Amendment Black IPA.

The beer seemed fresh and the glassware appropriate.

The food was very good. I had the Shepard's Pie, very delicious and hearty. My sister-in-law had the Fish and Chips, which I was informed was also excellent.

The place is a bit pricey with 18-25 dollar dishes, but very comfortable, and a great place to enjoy a meal with friends and family, and to enjoy a good beer, in an otherwise craft beer starved area.

- much needed establishment in this neighborhood (Hyde Park / Milton) as there is finally a place within walking distance (a great gift for us folks who would normally have to make a trek in order just to get good or interesting beer with decent food)

- 20 oz glasses are the standard (save for those which come with special glasses) and hence good value considering.

- good pours. none of the 1" below the rim business.

- rotating taps & range of bottles covering enough ground to satisfy most people (and promise for more!)- check their website for what's on tap as they do seasonal themes but have fun stuff like Babycham...

- delicious scrumptious food (really. my friend thinks its one of the best burgers around & I too have savored everything else I've had).

- nice people whom you might recognize (check their website for history) and nice crowd

- minimal tv presence but its there to scream at or dance under when our team(s) are playing

- I have gone there quite a few times now. am quite happy.
