From BeerAdvocate Magazine #87 (Apr 2014):

Distinct, Vinous, Hoppy

All of the bells and whistles are there for an IPA, slightly dank and pungent. Then something happens as a unique fruitiness hits middle to end. Its the addition of Zinfandel grapes that throws down a peppery and exotic fruit tone. Unique for the most part and enjoyable enough to go back for more.

Grassy hop nose, pours clear tea to amber, 1.5-2” foam cap. On the tongue big grassy hops, big fruit, decent grass on the palate, flowery and herbal.. Medium body and carbonation.

The color is a coppery dark orange/pale red and clear. The head is a full finger of off-white cream with good retention and scattered lacing that's fairly thick.
The aroma is pretty even between malts and hops. Caramel, bread and barley offset tropical fruits, flora and pith with a hint of something sharp in the back.
The flavor really picks up the hops, and it's a pleasant surprise from Horny Goat. It's pithy, leafy and citrusy with a bit more sweet fruits coming in along with the zest, while malts simply balance and add depth. The zin isn't prominent, choosing a more subtle role and contributing just a little dry must and tannins. A little bit of a briny note sits in the finish.
There's a dryness that builds on the tongue, but not harshly, as the medium body sustains itself for the duration. Its combination of soft but creamy carbonation and biting crispness makes for an interesting parallel on the tongue.

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a pint glass, this most excellent IPA pours a beautiful light amber with a firm tight beaded foam head that slowly dissipates leaving great lacing and a thin pool of foam. Nose of citrus and pine hops, grapefruit, a yeasty sweet bread aroma, and rich caramel malts. Flavors are up front citrus hops and caramel malts with bittering piney hops to the rear and a solid malt backbone with fresh sweet bread flavors. Finish is lightly dry and clean with a bittering hops aftertaste that is pleasant. The sweet malts really accentuate this IPA which, as some have pointed out is closer to a DIPA. I am NOT an IPA lover, yet this is exceptional and I will purchase more for Christmas gifts to some of my hoppy friends.

After telling myself i'd never buy anything from this gimmick contract brewer, I saw the relatively good scores this one was getting, and filed it away until seeing a single on the shelf recently, and figured it was worth $2 to find out if the praise was warranted.

Bottle is printed 0094SP, which means nothing to the average beer drinker, and i'm too lazy to bust out a decoder ring today.

Pours a dark saturated orange with a finger of foam, and a thin drippy ring of lace on the opposite side of the glass. Pretty good coverage, a head that lasts for the first couple sips then breaks apart. Hazy with suspended micro sediment, guessing this isn't super fresh. 3.5

Smell is pretty basic and average, lightly citric with sweet caramel malt bleeding through. 3.25

Taste is malty and lightly bitter, some resinous hop character, any indication of grapes isn't really present. Dry bitter aftertaste. Pretty textbook IPA, it could be from one of 1000 breweries, nothing unique here besides the idea. 3.25

Body is fine, fairly malty, more bitter than sweet, medium bodied. 3.25
Overall this isn't something i'll revisit unless it's a fresh draft sample. 3

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into an imperial pint.
7.1% ABV

A - Heavy carbonation keeps the lumpy and tall off-white head afloat above the fairly clear tarnished amber brew, all the while leaving clusters of clumpy lace plastered on the glass.

S - Sticky hop resin tingles the nasal passages, turning to earth-dusted notes of ripe pineapple chunks and mango balls with undercurrents of lightly toasted amber malt.

T - Wisconzin's combination of hop varietals presents a convoluted flavor profile of slightly earthy resin and pine needle notes with soft tropical fruitiness that dodges being pinpointed but it's quite tasty! Amber malt gives the beer a nice base of gentle toast and caramelly sweetness.

M - Eye-opening, Wisconzin leaves the tongue lingering with a dry, profound bitterness that grabs the taste buds rapidly but remains nicely balanced by a kiss of malt sweetness and tickle of carbonation.

O - Well slap me silly; a Horny Goat beer without any gimmicky branding and, if that weren't enough, it's actually a damn good IPA to boot! Hop forward throughout, Wisconzin pushes the envelope of a conventional IPA into light (in reference to alcohol) double IPA waters with it's big profile and striking bitterness but, it's the overall quality of the recipe that has me wowed. I have no hesitation is saying that I wasn't expecting anything from this Horny Goat offering but I would drink this beer again and again.

Horny Goat Wisconzin IPA has a thin, white head, fairly prominent lacing, a hazy, orange appearance, lots of bubbles, and tiny, brown sediment visible, top to bottom. Aroma is of piney, citrus, hop resin and a decent amount of white bread. Taste is the same, with strong, but not harsh, hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and prickly, and Horny Goat Wisconzin IPA finishes mostly dry and rather drinkable. I did not pick up any grapes, in either the aroma or taste, but I still found it delicious.

A: The beer is relatively clear amber orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige colored head that died down, leaving just some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with notes of tropical fruit hops, the latter of which become a bit stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste starts out with a sharp amount of light bitterness and transitions to flavors of caramel malts, sour grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Slight bits of alcohol and peppery spices are also perceptible towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a lot of different flavors going on, but I didn't find these to really mesh together well. The taste of alcohol is also a little detracting.
