The clean white head is almost dense in its heavy bubbling and its rockiness, though the retention is just more than average. It does leave some light patching behind. The beer itself is a thick, opaque medium yellow.
Pineapple is there though not as strongly as in the flavor (or as it should be), which makes a bit of wheat, dust and clove the only other detectable notes.
The taste actually brings more of the style out than Horny Goat beers tend to; the pineapple makes a good show, sweet and tart with a little sourness to it, while gentle notes of banana and clove do come out. It's a bit musty, too, but for a brewery that either can't figure out what a beer style is going for or panders to those that don't, this one actually gets it...plus pineapple.
It's light-bodied, crisp and decently smooth with a certain creaminess. It starts cleaner than it ends. All in all, it does well.

DATE TASTED: August 14, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: 22 oz. Weizmann... OCCASION: watching The Hobbit as preparation for the school year... APPEARANCE: bright, misty, densely obscure orange body; head is off-white and thick at first, but settles to a few random slivers of uneven strands... AROMA: odd, funky notes that stray from the banana and clove promised... Instead, a sharp, cloying aroma that is musky and somewhat unpleasant... PALATE: fizzy, oily and smooth to the tongue; leaves the aftertaste that holds its dank citric warmth in the end... TASTE: the pineapple is bolstered by pear and apple, with mango and banana also lending service... the overall effect is flavorful, but the pineapple juice is almost crushing and obtrusive in its presence... OVERALL: the Laka Laka delivers it’s pineapple promise, and refreshes with a reasonable levity... Fruit beers are not my thing, and this leaves some rather blunt edges, but poolside, this beer might be in its element....

Appearance: Pours from can a cloudy yellow-golden, with huge head of off-white suds. Loopy touch of lace.

Aroma: A bit of fruit juice alongside lagery malts. Not so appealing.

Taste: Sweet up front, and kinda artificial. I don’t get much of a true hefeweizen flavor here, but more of a flavored wheat beer. Seems gimmicky and shallow in content. I do like the creepy weird “pony” can art, though.

Thanks to the incredible woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy, light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of spices, cloves, some banana. Taste is the same, spices, banana, a touch of pineapple, highly refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a tasty and very sessionable beer.

I very much wanted to like this beer. I like Hefeweizens a bunch but a pineapple version is just wrong. Honestly, I don't even really taste the pineapple. Instead, I get more a of a saccharine-chemical sweetness that's bitter in the wrong way. Maybe it's just the 6 pack I got, but the beer was skunky tasting too. I've known some Hefeweizens to have a bit of funk to them, but this was just kind of gross. Now what to do with the remaining 4 beers....

12 fl oz. can, no canned on date or freshness information present. My first canned offering from Horny Goat Brewing Co., this one their self-proclaimed Pineapple Hefeweizen.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a juicy cloudy orange body with four big fluffy fingers of foamy white head. Head has decent retention, but leaves not much lacing behind. Very small amount of yeast particulate is visible. A pretty nice appearance.

S - The aroma is basically a big bananas n' cream type bomb. Some vague yeasty / wheaty mustiness pervades in the background, but otherwise it is a boring aroma. I wouldn't know there was pineapple juice in this just by smelling it.

T - The taste is not like a traditional hefeweizen in any way. The flavors of clove spice & banana are seemingly lost to the addition of pineapple juice, and the pineapple juice in itself is not very distinct. Very light and tropical / fruity tasting, but I wouldn't know this was brewed with pineapple juice if the can didn't tell me. Just a bit of vague yeasty / wheaty beer base remains on the finish.

M - The feel is smooth, light, & creamy, but I feel the carbonation is a touch on the low side of things, especially for this style of beer and the light abv.

Overall, not a traditional hefeweizen at all, which is more to my liking, but maybe the results can be a bit more cohesive next time. Still, worth a try, and refreshing in summer heat.
