Glossy black with a moderate tan head settling to a bubbly thick and creamy blanket clinging in wobbly ridges.

A nutty tobacco roast is accented by semi-bitter cacao and a little woodiness, as the smooth, silky medium body has a light crackly carbonation before its paper dry finish.

There are hints of vanilla within an otherwise nondescript tang, but it's not really very pecany overall. Angry Chair's nuts have spoiled me rotten.

Notes from 3/14/2020.
I have had this beer on tap many times but it's been a few years. I was excited to find out they started bottling it.
Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Rastal nucleated Teku glass.
The body is dark brown with a quarter inch of tan head from an aggressive pour. The head recedes rapidly. 3.00
The aroma is close to medium-low and of chocolate, coffee, and sweet malt. 3.5
The taste is medium-high in strength and has flavors of high quality dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, a little pecan, and some char. The moderately bitter finish is long lasting. 4.5
The mouth feel is just below medium, moderately creamy, and has light carbonation. There's a very light level of astringency. 4.00
Overall, the flavor is world class and makes up for the average appearance. I had difficulty waiting for it to warm up because it tastes so good. 4.25

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a roasted malt smell with lots of caramel and a little bit of molasses and chocolate. Along with these smells comes some light nutty smells as a little tiny bit of herb.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather molasses and caramel brown bread and toasted malt taste that has just a touch of nuttiness. The sweetness is quite big, and gets even slightly bigger in nature with some chocolate hitting the taste buds. The nuttiness increases ever so slightly as the taste advances, producing a slightly more pecan like flavor. At the same time some earthy hop comes to the tongue and leaves one with a lighter pecan, and rather big and sweet porter flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather robust and thick with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the tastes and style the feel is pretty decent and makes for a robust, but easy drinking feel.
Overall – A little big on the sweetness for me, without that much of a pronounced pecan flavor. OK, but not one I will likely go back to again and again.

Appearance: Black glass doesn't hold a head or lace beyond a few spots. Glows a bit brown with back light, but pretty opaque.

Aroma: Mild wood / pecan shell note on top of a burnt grain and sweet malt base.

Taste: Balanced start goes a bit burnt and lightly nutty (pecan) with a grainy finish. A little astringent in the finish, but it's a well crafted char.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, low carbonation, oily texture, fairly clean if drying finish.

Overall: I'm not a Porter fan, but I always try beers from styles I don't like because I occasionally find the exception to the rule. This transcends style and is an experience onto itself. Makes me yell "Texas" a lot, I like it.

On tap in a pint glass.
Looks really dark, pretty much black. Small head that thins out to a small lace that keeps over time.
Taste has notes of coffee, at times burnt coffee. Malty. And some light notes of pecan that don't always come through.
Pretty good beer, I'd get it again.

Served on tap in a shaker, pours a mahogany with a thin khaki crown....not a ton of lacing. Nose is promising if a little underdeveloped- I get some bitter coffee, some baker's chocolate, meaty and woody pecan (but light). Taste follows the nose...and there might be a little vanilla in there. It's nice but I'm a limited way. Feel is a little thin, a litle flat.

Some say I'm a dreamer, but my mind is set on believing this is 512's best beer. the IPA may sell better but they perfected the balance of toasty/burnt malts of the porter with the level of pecan flavor. It goes down smooth and is perfect for cool Autumn weather.

I was very surprised by this one. It had a very thin mouthfeel as expected, but the flavor was great. It had a nice roasty flavor and almost reminded me of pecan pie crust.

5-17-16 - On tap at the Hyatt Lost Pines outside of Austin, TX. Served in a classic pint glass. Super black with nice tan head. Quick swirl and the head came right back. Tasty porter with nutty tones. Went very well with my jalapeno burger.

Black draft pour with smooth (nitro) creamy tan head; some clarity under cap which was long lasting; heavy lacing. Almost no aroma save for a hint of roasted nuts. Roast malt and subtle pecan flavors. Creamy nitro mouthfeel and moderate plus carbonation. Wish it had a stronger nut presence.

On draft into a pint glass. Very dark brown with little head and ok lacing. The beer is very dark. Rowan with a coffee and chocolate smell and taste. The pecan taste is subtle, and overall a pleasant beer. This keg may have been around a while and the bartender a poor pourer. I had him pour my wife's Ultra in a glass and he did not do that well!

To-go from Craft And Growler. From notes.

Dark brown in color. Roasty and nutty with little else in the aroma. Tastes of dark chocolate, toasted grain, candied sugar and mineral water. Medium in body and comparatively thin.

Look: Black, milky and foamy.
Taste: Really sweet of chocolate taste. The pecan taste also came up often. Little hoppy taste.
Feel: viscous and thick, full body. Sweet after taste from the chocolate.

Had it on tap at the Londoner, Addison, TX. A lovely brew, extremely tasty, and I would gladly introduce this to anyone.

Appearance is almost completely black with some dark red around the edges. The head is very thin, but there is some nice lacing around the glass with an aggressive pour.

The smell is earthy nuts/pecans with some molasses coming through (fresh).

Taste has nice malt flavor with an earthy and roasted pecan aspect. Some molasses and raisin flavors are noticeable upfront in which the finish is fairly dry. A nice but faint coffee/cocoa flavor is also present. There is very little bitterness or acidity.

Mouthfeel is fairly creamy, medium to heavy bodied with some noticeable carbonation. There is some chewiness, but the beer avoids excessive heaviness.

Overall this is a very enjoyable and well balanced Pecan Porter. There is some sweetness, but it is not excessive. The pecan flavor has nice earthiness and roasted qualities, and the flavor is not over the top.

On tap into a pint glass

A - Ultra thin head that is retained as a thin lacing. Beer is pitch black in appearance. Slight mahogany tint around bottom edge of glass. Unable to comment regarding carbonation level. 4.25/5

S - Very muted aroma with notes of molasses, pumpernickel bread, dark toasted bread, and an earthy nuttiness. 3.5/5

T - Very earthy and nutty profile overall which also features notes of brown sugar, tobacco, and grassy hops. Slightly sweet despite the earthiness of the beer which balances things out a bit. No lingering bitterness to the flavor. 4.25/5

M -Heavy but with a high carbonation burn. Somewhat chewy but the carbonation burn maintains a lightness that would not be achieved without the level carbonation that is present. 4/5

O - Very good Pecan Porter offering here. Nice to see a porter that is not crazy sweet or crazy dry or crazy bitter. Very well balanced between earthy, bitter, and sweet. There is a smoothness to this beer that some porters just don't achieve. 4/5

Great looking beer. Very dark with light head - nice clean malt taste and I get a nice hint of coffee and caramel. I don't get the pecans though which is good, as nobody really likes pecans. If we can bury them in beer, let's do that

Had on [email protected] Whip in in Austin, TX 3/18/15. On nitro.

Appearance - Pours near black with dark mahogany brown edging where light can penetrate. Broken layer of suds with a thin ring around the edge of the cup.

Smell - Malty, with light brown sugar notes, nutty pecan and a distant powdered cocoa character.

Taste - Follows the nose with sweet and earthy flavors upfront with brown sugar, light pecan and faint cocoa flavor. A bit more earth and pecan hit in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with low carbonation. Silky smooth delivery that comes with the nitro.

Overall - A mighty fine porter, but didn't quite live up to the expectations that the hype train behind it had bestowed upon me. Of course I've always noticed a dip in the strength of flavor with every beer I've had on nitro, so that could be an issue here too. Would love to try again, but who knows if I'll ever find my way back to the Austin area.
