Texas, United States

Style: English Strong Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
(512) FOUR is a classic English-style Strong Ale. The biscuity Maris Otter and caramelly Crystal malts contribute notes of toast, toffee, and dried fruits, which are perfectly balanced with a blend of authentic UK Fuggle and East Kent Golding hops. Dry-hopped with Northdown, (512) FOUR is a complex and satisfying ale.

On tap at Jack Mac's.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. I get a lot of toffee and sweet bread notes in the aroma, as well as a hint of some fruit. The flavor is very similar. There is a lot of malt in the flavor, with some nice sweetness from the toffee. I also get some grape notes, as well as some earth and a hint of grass. There is a light amount of bitterness coming through from the hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

The FOUR poured a hazy golden amber with a huge white head and great lacing. The aroma was caramel sweet and biscuity with a hint of orange or grape but not from hops more from the sweetness. The taste was a solid malt and toffee with more of the orange or grape fruitiness underneath. The FOUR had a nice bitter hoppy finish that lingered on my palate and was a pleasant surprise given the more malt forward aroma and taste. While I do not drink many English Strong Ales I found that I was really enjoying the FOUR. I think it was the bitter hoppy finish that really rounded out the toasted malty sweetness that kept me coming back for more. Another great beer from (512).

Hazy orange gold pour with a white one-finger head. Toasted and caramel malt aroma. Flavor follows the nose perfectly with a nice mix of toasted and caramel malt flavors upfront. Can also taste a hint of grass, biscuit and earth. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
