Our Märzen Beer is highly appreciated and popular far beyond the borders of Salzburg, and is characterised by its typical flavour.
Its production uses Stadlau Pilsen and Kara-Extra-Hell malts, as well as Hallertau-Spalt-Select aromatic hops by Barth & Sohn, Nuremberg, to give the Märzen Beer its unique touch.

Super tasty from the barrels in Salzburg and the bottle. Also super cheap, which is a huge plus.

Finally able to buy/try this! Drove through Salzburg to get to Italy and had to stop here on a Friday afternoon. Unfortunately too early for the beer to be enjoyed from the tap in their pub but they were selling bottles/cases from the delivery ramp of the brewery. Date on label of 13.04.2023. Great price all things considered. Another bummer was that the following Wednesday they were releasing their Lent Bier so I just missed that. Will have to return next Lent to try that nectar and buy more of the Marzen.
Speaking of nectar, this is the real deal. I had huge expectations and it matched them. So easy drinking yet fulfilling and rich with massive malt flavor. Sweet yet perfectly balanced. Slight hop presence towards the end of each sip. Body, feel, everything is outstanding. This is what I expected beer to taste like when I arrived in Europe. I’m jealous of these monks.
Revisiting on my birthday in early 2024. A coworker picked up a case for me while they were in Salzburg. About €25 for the 20 bottles with the case deposit. “Best by” date is only a month from now which is a bummer but it’s still fresh enough. As good as I remember. An easy-drinking, clean lager with great malt flavor yet a light body and feel. A beer to drink year round. Cannot imagine how good this is on draft in their restaurant but hopefully I’m able to try that soon.
Another update: mid-February 2024. On the way to Obertauern to ski, I spent a night in Salzburg. Had to stop by here to finally experience the Bierhall and pick up some of their Lentbier…finally! A liter of this from the wooden barrel is €7,20…that is absolutely absurd (i.e. very reasonable price)! And it truly is heavenly. On the level of Zehendner lager. As good as lager gets in Europe. In my Top 3 without a doubt. Absolutely mind boggling how good this is.

A flawless beer. Pretty excellent in the bottle but unreal on tap. A really full taste, quite fruity, with no bitter lingering taste in the mouth like some märzen. Almost banana-y scent and then full bodied and slightly sweet.
Have travelled for hours to have this on tap on a whim. If you can get a bottle do so.

Drunk directly at the venue from a 0,5 litre mug.
It is a nice smooth Marzen, better than the ones I am usted to in Spain. The venue adds a plus value.

Flawless. Crystal clear, bone white head, robust, great malt, thirst quenching. Lends itself to session drinking. Finished clean. Bottles Bought at the source today

One of the best most crushable beers I have ever drank. It’s doesnt hurt that the beer garden at the brewery is one of the most relaxing places. This is a beer is will never forget drinking 5 liters of in a evening.

No review will do this beer justice. Go to Salzburg and just drink this beer at the source. It will be one of the greatest beer experiences of your life.

at the kloster mulln beer hall in Salzburg May 2014. The weather was chilly and wet, and the huge beer garden was empty. Unforgettable experience inside. Choose a ceramic stein, rinse with hot or cold water (or not), pay cashier and get receipt, hand receipt to pourer and receive brew. Beer comes from a big wooden cask gravity fed, but well carbonated, since the cask is emptied so quickly.
Augustiner Maerzen beer tastes better than the typical Austrian "Maerzen". Austrian beers were once the classic amber (Maerzen) lagers, but the ones i tried were continental Pils types. Augustiner leans more toward Bavarian Helles.
