Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a dark brown color with chestnut highlights and a thin, sparse, light tan head. Aromas of resiny wet hops, a touch of citrus, and roasty characteristics. Flavors are roasted coffee initially, with some nut sweetness, and dry, peppery hops profiles following shortly thereafter. Resiny, spicy aftertaste, with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Solid brew with great drinkability.

Alewife and I stopped at the Goose for lunch on 08APR12, after a nice weekend in central VT. Had a couple of pints of this along with my meal...

A standard shaker pint held a jet black brew, with a frothy, rocky, mocha-hued head. The foam ebbed slowly, leaving nice laework in its wake. The aroma had some solid citrus present, though not too much roastiness was detected here. Quite smooth going down, it also possessed a middle of the road, medium body.

Light roast did hit the palate at the outset, with some dark choco and a little bitterness. Soon after things got rindy and pithy, with hoppy resins clinging everywhere on the palate. The grapefruit and piney action lingered well. I wish I had snagged a growler for later, as this was quite tasty. Prosit!!

Poured into my Stella glass. Pours a slick black, with little too no light penetration, with a nice two inch dark tan head, with tons of lacing and excellent retention. Smell is mocha, citrus hops, grass, and pine. Taste is dominated by mocha, with the other flavors appearing throughout in a supporting role, maybe some grapefruit in the finish. Body is medium for the ABV, plenty carbonation, on the dry side, and very drinkable. This is a very nice version of this style. So much power in the nose and on the tongue.

Beer #4 of the Flying Goose flight.
Beautiful black color with a foamy khaki head and nice lacing along the glass. Taste of roasted citrus and fruity hops.
