Hefe is the German word for yeast and weizen is wheat, making this beer style fairly self-explanatory. The classic banana and clove-like flavors are derived from a specific Bavarian yeast. Because the beer is unfiltered, these dynamic yeasty flavors come through strongly. There is merely a hint of hop flavor added so as not to compete with the yeast notes. Some drinkers (not all) enjoy a squeeze of lemon.

Draft at brewery. Pale, milky golden, small ring of head. Aroma isn’t there. Taste brings some banana, but more of the candy variety. Thin body too. Poor example.

Thanks goes out to Bitterbill for this brew.
12 oz. Can
Filled On: 09/28/17
Poured into a tulip a pretty nice cloudy pale yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some nice banana/clove notes, grassy/wheaty. The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, with some nice banana/clove notes, nice grassy/wheatyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Thanks Bill!

Can filled April something 2017. Straw hazy pour. Fast shrinking head of foam. Big cloves nose, wheat, lesser with the banana. Plenty of banana and cloves in the taste. Mild suggestion of bubblegum. Tasty. Good.

On tap at the brewpub in Jackson WY.
Pale, cloudy golden body with very durable white head.
Aroma: spicy yeast with banana and clove plus faint hops.
Near moderate strength flavor for style. Better balance than average.
Medium-light body.

Slightly Americanized but resting firmly upon the traditional Bavarian wheat beer, the brewers at Snake River provide a dry bread taste and texture with moderate hints of fruit and spice complexity and a little hop kick to boot.
Hoback Hefeweizen wafts onto the nose with those classic banana and clove aromas, but also with additional citrus, orchard and tropical fruits along with spice of both yeast and grain. Cloudy straw and with a moderately reliant froth, the beer's carbonation springs into action, giving the initial taste a zesty bite through flavors of sourdough, sugar cookie, cereal and honey.
The middle palate shows a waving malt influence while cereal sweetness remains. Banana esters soon follow with lemon, orange, apple and papaya and await a trailing spice of heavy clove, white pepper, vanilla and mint. Grassy hops provide a floral scent, an herbal green tea flavor and then a peppery bitterness with a kiss of citronella.
Medium bodied and racy early, the beer quickly falls flat and allows the raw graininess to rest on the tongue for an unfortunate flat finish. Still, nuances of mint, citrus and clove last beyond the beer's more prevailing tastes and gives the beer one final snappy hop bite to close.
