Golden clear liquid. Large white head. Some lacing.

The smell is a bit frowsy and malty. Hints of detergents and solvents.

The taste is light, some passing metallic bitter flavours. Some alcohol in the otherwise light aftertaste. Chemical finish.

The carbonation is medium with some sharp bubbles. The liquid is light.

A rather boring beer.

Full golden hue, very clean. Some little bubbles.
The smell is very light. Some hop. Malt. Light but quite pleasant.
The taste is a little more strong, with a good full maltness, and a decent hopping. Quite well balanced, quiet and drinkable.
Some hopped personality.
Slightly too carbonated, but very slightly. Light body, drinkable.
Hop in the aftertaste.
A good standard pils.

First had this beer in Berlin, but shared it with my wife and friends, didn't review it back then, but seeing a bottle of it in a glass fronted fridge behind the bar at The Cask Pub and Kitchen, London, I thought I'd have a full bottle to myself.

Usual Pilsner look, bright, clear, clean and golden: on top a thin white head which hung around for a while before disappearing to form a flimsy collar.

Mild hop aroma; gets my standard score of 3 for a mostly non-smelling Pilsner/Lager.

Crisp, tangy, the same as all those other German Pilsners I’ve had over the years, some hop content which is half noticeable and it’s a refreshing beer, but no real substance or depth of character.

Another run of the mill Pilsner, fine but no great excitement from my taste buds. I thought it had something about it when tried in Berlin, must have been mistaken.

Served on-draught into a Herren Pils glass at Keesmann. It was priced quite affordably (somewhere around 2.30 euro). Reviewed from notes taken early June 2011.

A: Pours a 1.5 finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, and bad retention. Colour is a slightly hazy yellow.

Sm: Cream and barley. That's it. Quite simple, boring, and bland.

T: Creamy, fairly full-bodied barley body. It's pretty simple. Uninspired but generally agreeable. No subtlety here. Decently put together. I do enjoy it; it's just boring.

Mf: Smooth, wet, and refreshing.

Dr: Easy to drink and very affordable. You could easily quaff this. A good session beer for those who can't handle bold flavours.

Aroma:

Strong malt aroma, no hop aroma coming through.

Appearance:

Rocky head , persistent though light. Coarse lace. Straw yellow color. Very attractive.

Flavor:

Malty, but not sweet. Little hop taste, but mildly bitter. Slight pleasant bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel:

Light carbonation. Thin body.

Drinkabiliity:

Good Pilsner. Body a bit thin and a bit too malty.

Bamberger Pilsner
16.9 oz brown bottle
Served in a mini St. Sebastiaan tulip glass

Pours a golden and hazy yellow. Extremely small carbonation bubbles rise to the top of the glass. Spotted trails of sticky lace.

Pleasant aroma of grains, sweet apple juice and hops.

Clean and juicy mouthfeel with a tad of sweet flavors. Rather crisp and clean which really enhances the drinkability level. Grainy with a flat apple juice punch and a tight, hop snap.

Half litre bottle, slightly sexist title but much hyped (for a Pils)

A: Admittedly not much to look at, golden, clear, not much of a head.

S: Noble hop, Hallertau I think, faded slightly, some freshly cooked mushroom came through at the very end.

T: Grassy, got some citrus fruits, breast good balance.

M: Light body, crispy, initially well carbonated but faded.

O: Initially outstanding but seemed to die and go flat quickly which was a slight disappointment. I think this would be amazing on draught at the source.

Appearance- Pours a golden/straw, slightly hazy yellow. Extremely small carbonation bubbles rise to the top of the glass. Good, white head with some retention. Leaves small, sticky lacing.

Smell- A bit subdued, but I suspect my fridge is to cold. what there is is a nice, malty, grainy, clean, crisp aroma.

Taste- Nice. Not as malty as most Pils, but decent. Noce malt sweetness with a good balance of bittering hops. Very worthy effort.

Mouthfeel- Crisp and refreshing. Excellent CO2 level. Unlike most Pils, this one seems to get better as it warms.

Drinkability- Not the best example of the style, but very drinkable.

Clear gold colored beer with a glass filling white head.

Good Pilsner malt aroma with a spicy Nobel hop aroma. Quite a spicy hop aroma here with herbs, mild citrus aroma.

Taste starts out neutral sweet and grainy with a mild bitterness. Mild herbs and a bit of grain flavor the taste is nowhere as complex as the aroma.

Mouthfeel is OK.

An OK Pils but I have had many better.

Enjoyed while at the Keesmann Brauerei/Restaurant in Bamberg... This Pils has a pale straw color and is crystal clear. The head is a billowy, white puff of foam about 2" high. It lasts quite well, and lacing sticks nicely to the glass. It has a crisp, clean hop aroma, mostly floral, but with a hint of spiciness. The Herren has good body, and is nicely smooth on the tongue with a minimum of carbonated prickliness. Flavor has a light crackery aspect to it, and it is crisp and dry throughout. It has a smooth hop flavor, with no bitter bite at all but a smidge of spiciness. A well-made example! Prosit!!!

Sampled on tap at the brewery in Bamberg.

This pils poured a clear, gold yellow color with creamy white foam that persisted and clung to the glass, leaving lace. The smell was "clean" with grain and malt and a hint of vegetable. The taste was floral hops with bread and grain with some malt. Tangy and not sweet. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and moderate carbonation. The finish was hoppy and the hoppy flavor lingered. This was a very nice pils.

Appearance - This is a thick and cloudy dingy yellow with hints of orange and a nice white head that left good lacing.

Smell - The hops pop from the glass. They are sharp and spicy with strong herbal notes making this a heavy-duty sample of the style. The malt is light and in the background and has a nice German grain aroma.

Taste - This is very herbal in flavor with a grain backbone that is just as nice to taste as it was to smell.

Mouthfeel - This is a big Pils, definitely medium-bodied, with some mild carbonation and a surprisingly bitter bite throughout.

Drinkability - Most of the people I saw ordering Pils at a gasthaus in Germany were women looking for a lighter drink, and in this regard the Herren is not the right Pils for that. If you want a meaty thirst-quenching brew that glorifies the mix of a full grain flavor and a sharp herbal hop then this is perfect.

This is imported by Shelton Brothers who put their sticker on the back of this bottle. Under the sticker, lower right, it states "alc. 4,6% vol.".

Pours a hazy wheat color with a big white head that dissipated and has moderate action.

Common Pilsner hops aroma with bready malts in the background.

Smooth Pilsner hopped flavor with a grainy barley taste.

Light bodied, resinous feel, with lively soft almost flat carbonation.

Very drinkable, so smooth, gives the impression of flat carbonation.

The best Pils in Bamberg. Pours as one would expect: golden with a nice head. Nose is pleasantly hoppy. Taste is a bit but not overly bitter. Recommended to enjoy at the brewery!

BB 16-12-05. White head and a pale golden beer that's opalising. Good nose of fine hops in a light barleymalt. Fine nose without too much yeastinfluence and overal good. As is taste that's nice and dry, good maltyness and a very fine hopcaracter that's well dosed makes this brew very refreshing. As mouthfeel is; no off-tastes and just fermented palemalt and hops. Maybe not to appealing but very clean example that I love to drink.

A: We all know what Pilsner looks like.
S: Strong grain.
T: Slightly hoppier than your average Pilsner. Has a nice savoury bite with a lovely citrusy finish. No spice or dankness. Quite a crisp mouthfeel.
O: It's simply a really good ordinary Pilsner. Very refreshing.

On-draft at Cafe Abseits on 4/8/2013. Served in a willibecker. Pours a translucent yellow with a quarter inch, bright white head that settles into a consistent skim. Nothing really asserts itself in the nose. Taste is light and floral with some citrus notes and some grains - very bright. Mouthfeel is light in body with a crisp carbonation and a clean finish - not much else to say. Overall - just a delicious, easy-drinking pils. Wonderful and well worth your time if you appreciate the style.

This is a pretty good German pilsner, hoppy and herbal bith with fairly well-rounded character.

Gold and very faintly hazy, it has a big white head slowly shrinking to a ring and leaving a little lace.

The aroma is apple, honey, grain and a lot of herbs.

The taste is bread, herbs, a honey-bread sweetness underneath a minty, tingly herbal bitterness. The hops just dominate the finish and the herbal bitterness lingers on the toungue. In flavours it is a bit like Jever, yet stronger in flavour and more characterful, less bitter and more malty.
