Thicker shade of amber-orange. Aroma suggests lavender, substantial caramel malts and applewood. Tastes floral with a woodsy Cascade bitterness that mostly dominates. Sweet front with dry finish to aftertaste. I've had better Ambers, but this was isn't too bad.

Notes from Thursday night's happy hour:

Poured off the tap a beautiful amber hue with a graggy, off-white head. Subdued aromas that I'm not willing to tease out with my nostrils with all of these people around. Taste was not at all what I expect from an Amber, but I love it: it has an almost smoky woodsiness with a burnt vegetable bitterness. A very round, medium-full body. Not a typical Amber by any means, but a good one.

Served on tap at cellar temp in a standard pint.

Appearance is nice deep amber leaning towards red, crystal clear, but almost still, no head. Glass filled to the rim, like it was a soda pop. left a decent lace.

Fair aroma, hint of maltiness, plenty of earthy hops.

Flavor is lackluster, a bit astringent and earthy. Coupled with a good mouthfeel, though.

Overall, it needed more C-hops and more rich maltiness to hit the West Coast Red target style. Not worth a second try.

When I went to Cap City last night, I brought my trusty growler along for a fill... this was the selection I made!

A: Poured a clear, yet fairly dark amber color, with about a finger (+?) off-white head, that had some actually traces of the amber color in the creamy mound itself.

S: Crisp, clean, floral scent, with a bit of malt wafting through the transparent bouquet.

T: Medium to light in body, with a really nice floral quality in every drop. The finish was mildly watered down, but nothing too offensive.

M: This was almost like a floral lager... but to be honest, I kind of dug that about it. Very well carbonated, with a good amount of sudsy lacing to boot.

D: I was absolutely gulping this stuff! I'm glad I chose it for my growler fill, and at only 5.4%, it's pretty sessionable.

On tap @ the Arlington location on 5/21/10. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a deep clear amber, topped with a 1/2 finger of off-white foamy head. This stays creamy on the edges, with a moderately rich flareup on it that leave a good bit of frothy spotting behind. The aroma is floral, resinous, and spicy, with a flavorful smelling tang of bread, caramel, and citrus underneath it. This opens up nicely as it warms, with a good balance of sharp and sticky in the nose.

The taste starts with base of toasted caramel and bready sweetness, with a pleasantly strong bite of balancing hops, which leaves pine, spice, and bitter citrus lingering on the tongue. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, laying crisp on the tip of the tongue but then getting slick and creamy as it spreads out in the mouth. No alcohol detected here either, which combines with that feel to really keep this solidly drinkable.

This one really grew on me as I worked on the pint, with the hops quickly blooming as this warmed up, packing a well balanced and flavorful hop punch but still remaining readily easy feeling on the palate. A good little hoppy American Amber that took me a bit my surprise.

On tap at the downtown brewpub.
Malt forward. Looks very much like their Irish Red but the aroma and flavor are clearly different. This is a touch sweeter and less complex.

11/12...served on tap in DC. Pours ruby amber color. Some foam. Toffee caramel nose. Light sweet taste, caramel, and breads. Modest carbonation. Classic amber taste. Good.

A hazy light amber brew, an off-white head leaving little lacing, small curtains.

Weak fruit smell, nuts and hay.

Sweet bread taste, grape juice and peel.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft and smooth with a long dry finish.

A nice clean ... I would say APA, not Amber.

Poured on tap into pint glass at the downtown and Arlington locations. Pours a transparent copper orange with well-lacing, thin, off-white head. Sweet, grainy earthy caramel aroma has some faint hoppiness. Body starts with a touch of sweet toast malt, quickly fading into a more bitter, earthy, and dry finish. Needs more lingering malty sweetness.
