Style: American Amber / Red Lager
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%
Availability: Year-round
Notes / Commercial Description:
Colorado Native is a hand crafted lager made with all Colorado ingredients that celebrates the joys of life in Colorado.
Hold up a pint of Colorado Native and drink in its amber lager color, brought to life with pale and caramel malts from our famous Moravian 2-row barley. We painstakingly balanced its malt character against select Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops to create a perfectly balanced, full-flavored beer. A lager yeast fermentation gives Colorado Native a slight fruitiness, complementing a citrus aroma note from a late kettle hop addition. Everything then comes together to deliver a clean taste and dry finish that is very drinkable by itself, or paired with your favorite foods.

Oooh, such a lovely copper color, bright and clear. Lively streams of bubbles, lots of em. Head is a pale, light tan with white highlights, develops a thick pitted head with excellent lacing forming only a minute after the pour. The lacing is the absolute best I've seen from a BMC product. Aroma is full of crip floral hops. A powerful nose. Some fruits, a slight pleasent mustiness, a slight spiciness. A big sip brings a front-end maltyness, with bready caramel notes, followed by more of those crisp, vigorous hops. The hops are great; more flavor and less bitterness. Lots of fruit, apples and tangerines. A bit of oily bitterness remains on the palette after swallowing. The thick head is still sticking around close to halfway through the glass. The only real con to this beer is an aggressive carbonation that comes right through the medium-light body, adding a prickliness to the lingering hops finish. This was the only real flaw to me in this beer; while great tasting, I could see the mouthfeel making drinking a few of these a bit of a chore
This is ithe greatest beer Coors has ever brewed. Clealry a beer based on marekting and a bit gimicky, but on the other hand, this is a great tasting beer featuring all Colorado ingredients and "only" available in this, the greatest of states. A beer to be proud of, no matter who it's from.

This beer sounded interesting since it is one of Coor's entrants into the craft beer category. I had this one tap at the Coor's brewery in Golden, CO so it was nice, fresh, and cold. This beer is clear and a true amber in color with moderate carbonation easily visible. The head of the beer is off white with a slightly orange hue and frothy in appearance. The head dissipates very slowly to a thin lacing. 4/5 The aroma is very much a layered aroma with notes of fresh cut grass, herbal hops, citrus peel, grapefruit, and oranges. Outside of the hop aromas, which are rather prevalent here, sweet notes of dark caramel and whole wheat bread come out and provide a balance to the hops. 3.75/5 As with the aroma, the flavor is very layered and features a richness of notes. The taste starts out with a bit of light caramel and rye bread before quickly moving into a coriander spiciness, grapefruit & orange peel, and pine resin. The flavor is fairly hoppy but is balanced out by the caramel and breadiness. Bitterness is moderate and lingers, but not too long. 3.75/5 The body is light to medium in nature and the dryness is quite substantial with lingering dryness that lasts for quite some time. Carbonation is not as high as expected, rather being only a light tickle up front. 3.75/5 I am really quite impressed, especially due to this being a Coors product. Most macros, in my experience, do not do craft styles very well, or at least water them down. This is not watered down in the slightest, and is really rather flavorful. 3.75/5

6/25/17...off the Coors brewery tour. Pours medium copper with a light head of clingy white foam. Light caramel sweet nose. Smooth semi sweet taste. Amber caramel. Light bite, enough to balance the sweetness. Chewy finish. Tasty.

Very true to the style of an Amber Lager, well balanced, simple, and very refreshing. My first Colorado-based beer and I'll definitely purchase again.

Beer pours a dark amber with frothy inch & half head. Aroma was basic malts, flavor was good flavored malt, biscuity flavors with a balanced dry finish. Reminded me of a stronger Coors Extra Gold or maybe Winterfest. Good solid amber and best beer I've had from Coors in a while.

Served from 12 oz bottle in pilsner glass.
2" cream colored head drops slowly with plenty of lacing. Color is clear amber with abundant streaming carbonation. Aroma of toasted malt and grassy hops. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a fairly crisp finish. Flavors of toasted bread and cracker with a nice grassy hop bite. Overall Nicely done to the style, enjoyed this one.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #40 (May 2010):
With crystal brassy color, this bold-looking brew has a head that reaches over the top of the glass. Delicate hops enter the nose with suggestions of lemon, wildflowers and mandarin oranges, and bump into a fresh-cut grass maltiness. This lager brings some body, smooth- ness and full-on clean graininess straight at your taste buds. Dry throughout, it's very malty with toasted bread and dried grass flavors. Hops not only balance, but also leave a signifi- cant level of flavor lingering in the dry, grainy aftertaste.
Clean, balanced, semi-complex and easy to drink. Yeah, they are walking the walk here. We live for exceptional lagers that jump out of the bottle and get all up in your palate.

Medium sized off white head quickly settles into a nice lasting lacing above a super clear copper colored beer.
Medium roasted caramel malt aroma with a touch of light hops on a lighter aroma.
Caramel malts that have a well roasted malt quality to them give this lager its warm malty taste.
A light dryish aftertaste with a bit of the caramel malt tastes remaining on this medium bodied beer.
A pretty decent tasting amber, drinks pretty easily.

When I first saw this beer, I assumed it was a marketing ploy by one of the big 3 to make something that looked like craft beer while hiding it's true identity. My bad.
12oz. long neck brown bottle with a twist off cap. Opens with barely a hiss.
CO Native is a nice redish amber color with perfect clarity. The slightly off-white head is smooth but settles fairly quickly.
Aroma is pretty standard/average fare. Slightly sweet, malty, and fruity but overall very mild. Little to no hop presence.
Flavor is more of the same. Not very remarkable in any particular way. It has a malt-forward taste meaning it's very low in hop bitterness. There is a little roast to it but basically forgetable. I keep going back for another small sip and nothing really sticks.
Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with appropriate carbonation.
Overall a very average beer in a state full of exceptional ones.

12 oz bottle
App: frothy off-white head. Nice amber with hues of ruby
Smell: a touch of bready malt but dominated by dank, Fruity hops. Perhaps cascade? Because I smell grapefruit.
Taste: similar to the smell. Decent bready and biscuity malt with a touch if honey. Fades into some grapefruit rind bitterness.
Medium body with decent carbonation.
Tastes like the second runnings of sam Adams BL.

Looks good as it pours a medium to dark amber with a couple finger pillowy white head that
dissipates fairly quickly into a full foam layer leaving some heavy lace.
Aroma is a nice mix of grains and hops. Some corn, straw and pine smells blend in.
The flavor is OK. A little hops, not too much, and some sweetness.
However it is a bit too watery for my liking.
Mouthfeel is rather thin. Even for a lager. Almost light beer levels.
This lend to the watery taste.
Overall it's an acceptable beer, but nothing stellar. A notch above Bud but not into great beer territory.
