Style: American Amber / Red Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Colorado Native is a hand crafted lager made with all Colorado ingredients that celebrates the joys of life in Colorado.

Hold up a pint of Colorado Native and drink in its amber lager color, brought to life with pale and caramel malts from our famous Moravian 2-row barley. We painstakingly balanced its malt character against select Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops to create a perfectly balanced, full-flavored beer. A lager yeast fermentation gives Colorado Native a slight fruitiness, complementing a citrus aroma note from a late kettle hop addition. Everything then comes together to deliver a clean taste and dry finish that is very drinkable by itself, or paired with your favorite foods.

This beer sounded interesting since it is one of Coor's entrants into the craft beer category. I had this one tap at the Coor's brewery in Golden, CO so it was nice, fresh, and cold. This beer is clear and a true amber in color with moderate carbonation easily visible. The head of the beer is off white with a slightly orange hue and frothy in appearance. The head dissipates very slowly to a thin lacing. 4/5 The aroma is very much a layered aroma with notes of fresh cut grass, herbal hops, citrus peel, grapefruit, and oranges. Outside of the hop aromas, which are rather prevalent here, sweet notes of dark caramel and whole wheat bread come out and provide a balance to the hops. 3.75/5 As with the aroma, the flavor is very layered and features a richness of notes. The taste starts out with a bit of light caramel and rye bread before quickly moving into a coriander spiciness, grapefruit & orange peel, and pine resin. The flavor is fairly hoppy but is balanced out by the caramel and breadiness. Bitterness is moderate and lingers, but not too long. 3.75/5 The body is light to medium in nature and the dryness is quite substantial with lingering dryness that lasts for quite some time. Carbonation is not as high as expected, rather being only a light tickle up front. 3.75/5 I am really quite impressed, especially due to this being a Coors product. Most macros, in my experience, do not do craft styles very well, or at least water them down. This is not watered down in the slightest, and is really rather flavorful. 3.75/5

12 oz. bottle poured into willibecher.

A- Amber with some great clarity. Dense off white head.

S- Toasty, a little nutty. Hop aroma isn't detectable.

T- Toast and a little caramel. Hop comes out a little more in flavor, earthy., to even things out.

M- Medium body, sweet and toasty. Just a bit of bitterness. Slight linger.

O- Not bad. Solid darker lager. Darker malts contribute mostly to the flavor. And kudos to sourcing ingredients locally.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours copper amber with a frothy tan head that settles to a nice layer and laces very well.

S: Bready toasty roasty malt, fruity notes, a bit yeasty and a little pine.

T: Toasty roasty malt, earthy, a little coffee, pine, and faint fruity notes.

M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Surprisingly flavorful amber lager. I think it could use a little more sweetness to counter the hop and roasted malt bitterness, but still pretty nice.
