Aroma has clean malt and lots of noble hops character. Taste is very balanced. Clean malt and earthy, grassy noble hops with a good amount of bitterness to balance out the malts. Light to medium body with crisp carbonation. This is definitely one of the better, classic, helles style lager.

A smooth, yet crisp helles. Clear golden in color with nice medium foamy head. Aroma and taste of malt, hay, bread, everything a decent helles should be.

On-tap at Weisses Brauhaus and served in a 300 ml mug, on to the beer:

Now to the cleaner beer. Its color is straw yellow and topped with a rocky head which retains itself well. The usual suspects of a helles aroma (grass, lemon, hay) set the table for a good drinking experience. Arriving in the mouth in its light body and gentle carbonation are a slight citrus note with fresh hay and wild grass. Few things say "welcome to Munich" better that a fresh and appealing helles lager.

Platinum with piles of shaving cream froth that goes rocky and laces. Grass and hay on the nose with a hint of wildflower.
Baguette crust with underpowered noble spice.
Sugar cookie finish and slight tingly linger. Light, soft, watery.

Thin and underhopped, even for a Helles. It is easy and quenching, but almost to the point of being a girly lager. There are better examples of the style.

Pale and lightly hazy appearance. White head, with some bubbles.
At the smell is more hoppy than malty.
The malt is quite light in the taste too. Quite light and citric, with salty notes.
Drinkable, a lot. Citric and salty in the aftertaste too.
Light body.
Nothing to remember.

Thanks to Momar42 for this German curiosity! 500ml bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A: Pours a very pale straw color featuring excellent carbonation. The head is a two finger whIte color. It fades at a moderate clip, and leaves nice patches of lacing going down.

S: It's a typical aroma for the style - lots of grassy hops, unobtrusive malts, and some diacetyl. I'd say the latter is a bit more prevalent than I'd like, but a fairly good aroma otherwise.

T: At first, the buttery diacetyl presence (just like in the aroma) comes fairly strongly. Luckily, it smooths out into nicely crisp, hoppy bite on the finish. Some slight fruitiness will try to build up, as well. Not ultra interesting, but about what I expect from the style.

M: Light and crisp to be sure - but sadly the finish and aftertaste isn't as dry as I'd like here. For that reason, it lacks great drinkability. It's got good carbonation, at least.

O: Not bad. I'd say this one is a notch or two below the best of the style, though. Worth a try.

Tegernseer Hell has a thick, foamy, white head, lots of heavy lacing left on the glass, and a yellow-straw appearance, with bountiful white specks suspended throughout. Some lazy bubble action, too. The aroma is subtle, but the drinker will detect sweet, white cracker from the barley malt and a kiss of hop grassiness. Taste is similar and mild. Mouthfeel is light, and Tegernseer Hell finishes crisp and refreshing. It is more similar than dissimilar to American lagers.

I had this once before and didn't care for it, but I thought it might have been just an aberration. Well, not twice. Poured a golden color, with a rocky, white head, which lasted well and gave good lace. Nose exuded lots of grassy hop notes. Body was medium, but quite rough on the tongue. Taste is just about all hops, and bitter ones at that. Nothing smooth at all, just rough and bitter. I won't get fooled again....
