In general, I have developed a healthy respect and affection for the Humboldt Beers I have had. So the first after getting home from work tonight was a bottle of IPA - my first time. Immediate reaction was Surprise, at the "reddish" color. It poured well, reasonable carbonation that contributed to teh mouthfeel - but with little head. A dark copper color with an almost red hue as the background light is refracted through my pint glass. Complex Hoppy nose that seemed to change to me as the beer warmed up ! Bitterness is aggressive at first, from the Chinooks allegedly, but not to any overt degree. The bitterness is long lasting and slowly recinds to a smoother bitterness, with the Cascades coming through at the end. really nice beer that did not last long I can tell you. I was just so amazed at how "red" it is. I would purchase IPA, in fact any Humboldt beer, again for sure. I just think I need to learn the difference between English and American IPA's !!!!

Twelve-ounce, short, stout bottle just purchased from New Beer Distributors on Chrystie Street...
First-ever beer sampled from this west-coast, Californian brewery...
First-taste impressions: Medicinal, spicy, and pungent, both in the nose and on the tongue... Wet hops and effervescent florals dominate the palate... Overall, a clean, crisp, and warming IPA but nothing above and beyond...

Poured a cloudy gold with a thick one-finger head that slowly died and left some lace patches. A hoppy smell that is citrusy and there is some caramel malt as well as a lil' bit of spice. Like the aroma the taste and mouthfeel are textbook IPA w/ a floral, citric hop taste that is balanced in a medium body with caramel malt sweetness and finishes dry and crisp due to good carbonation. Nothing exceptional or outstanding but for pricepoint and representation of this style you can't go wrong with this beer.

It's darker than I thought for west coast. Pours an amber orange color with off white fluffy head that last quite awhile
Smells like big flowery citrusy american hops. Some sweetness there too.
Nice spice leads to a sweet caramel malt which is closed by a grapefruit citrus with the malt, into the decent bitter finish.
Finishes a bit too thin almost. Pretty smooth though.
Overall I've had better that are similar but it's still pretty good.

12oz bottle. Clear red amber with a small white head. Tobacco, leather, citrus and pine aroma. Piney, citrusy hops over semi-sweet malts, with a little earth. The hops are a little dominant, but not too bitter for an IPA. Medium light body with crisp carbonation. Pretty nice IPA, but typical California style, and uneventful.

Poured at a recent tasting at Maria's in Chicago...
A blend of sweet caramel malts meld with citrusy hops... More malt forward than I was expecting from an IPA... This reminds me more of a hoppy Red Ale...
Piney hops are quickly dominated by a sweet caramel maltiness... Rather balanced for an IPA which I would expect in a Pale Ale but not in an IPA...
Enjoyable but not memorable...

Paid $1.59 for a loose 12 oz bottle from Monument Liquor in Concord, CA. Poured into a pint glass.
Upon cracking this one, the very frothy foam started slowly oozing out of the top. Head retains quite well. Strong lacing. Fairly carbonated and cloudy. Orangish gold color.
Faint barley hints reminiscent of a B-level brewpub ale. Your standard IPA aroma; citrus hops. Nothing too special here.
The taste is pretty good on this one. Better than the nose certainly. The hops taste fresh and fairly dank. The average smells I detected are no longer present in the mouth.
Medium body. Decent carbonation. Good mouthfeel. Good drinkability. Not a bad offering, but there certainly is some room for improvement.

I had this beer with barbeque and it paired really well. One of my friends at the restaurant asked if any beer didn't pair well with barbeque... I said that really good barbeque makes the beer pair with it. I would almost want to avoid the beer that takes attention from these ribs. This good, middle of the road IPA did the job very well.
You get all of the normal smell and taste of a normal IPA. There is floral and citrus hopping. The look is a light orange, but there was very minimal head on this beer. Bitterness wasn't very present.
This was a good IPA. Not very challenging. I almost would point to this as a good bridge from BMC drinkers to craft.

Appearance: Clear, copper color with one finger of head that fades with rings of lace.
Aroma: Toasted malt, a little bready, lots of citrus hops.
Taste: A quick flash of malt then right to a bitter blast. Lots of grapefruit rind, pine, a little resinous. The finish comes quick with lingering bitterness.
The Rest: A pretty decent hop bomb. Body is on the thin side of medium, and it could use a bit more malt to help balance out the bitterness.

Poured a deep orangish with a thinner frothy head than from the bottle version. Nose of hops, grapefruit , floral , and slight various grains Taste was floral, citrus and shoppy as Hell. It had a nice hop bite on the end to remind you that is a damn good IPA. I liked this IPA from the bottle, bet the tap tastes even better. This is how I like my IPAs-very hoppy, slightly bitter finish and smooth with citrus and floral throughout.
