This poured out as a really nice looking orange color, it looked clean and clear with a thin white film on top after the head settled. Not much retention or lacing here. The smell of the beer has a generous amount of hops on the nose as well as some sweet aromas of malt in there too. The taste of the beer starts off sweet with a touch of lemon in there followed by the bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel was a bit thicker than i expected which I enjoyed. The beer felt slick and smooth yet drinkable. Overall I thought this was a pretty good IPA.

12oz, 5/31/12

A: Filtered clear orange color. Half finger of off white head. Good carbonation streaming up the bottom of the glass. Not a lot of lacing initially.

S: Still getting some piney fruity hop character on the nose. Diminished with age, but there. Some orange marmalade. Then some maltiness. Leading to breadiness.

T: Nice sharp bitterness on the tip of the tongue. Fruity and piney hop flavor is still there nicely. Nose has died not the flavor. Getting some of that orange character that I smelled. Nice balancing malt presence, but still more West Coast hop forward for sure. Nice dry piney finish that lingers.

M: Medium bodied with nice mouth coat.

A 12 oz bottle purchased from Liquid Solutions.

A: The IPA is an amber color, situated nicely between orange and brown. The ale is crystal clear, from the angle of the sun and the glass, there is a brilliant glare coming through. The head was quite large, 3.5 fingers or so, with a nice lace ring remaining.

S: The nose is a thick resiny hop profile mixed with a thick caramel malt body.

T: The ale has a big, malty mouthfeel. So much so that it could easily be mistaken for a barleywine. Those malts are cereal grainy, full of bread-like sweetness. The hops add quite an element of depth on top of the malts, big and citrusy, with some resiny thickness and a lot of grapfruit flavors. The balance between the malts and hops is striking, holding both in check and not getting out of hand.

M: The beer is a mouthful, lot o' hops and lots o' malts.

D: A bottle is enough for me, the beer is too over-the-top for an IPA.

Pours into my sam adams perfect pint an appropriate golden amber with rather small pillowy pure white head. Thick lacing glues itself to the sides of the glass shortly thereafter.
It gives off a rather thick, oily tangerine/grapefruit that really kind of hits the spot. The longer you stick your nose in the glass the more sticky and thick it comes across. Pretty satisfying.
The flavor profile of rind and grapefruit backs off just a bit and combines with a decent malt backbone. Although fairly juicy and mildly bitter at first, the backend really picks up with a dry bitter punch and yields an apropriate finish. The superfine carbonation halfway through may be just a little too harsh, but i kind of like how sightly aggressive it makes it.
This is a little too off centered for my preference, but i do enjoy many aspects of it individually, i was glad i got to enjoy a fresh 6pk after arriving finally in massachusetts.

Brilliant copper with a frothy one inch cream head that's dense and lingers.

Resin, floral hops, mango, nectarine, and pine form the initial aroma. There's a solid caramel malt sweetness present.

Flavor tarts things up a bit, with underpinnings of grapefruit, lime, and tart orange preceding a deep caramel malt, bready backbone, finishing resiny and fairly bitter.

Body is a tad light, with moderate carbonation and a touch of alcohol warmth.

Good balance of flavoring and bittering hops, with enough malt to balance, as well. Not the most complex, but a solid ipa. Could use a bit more body.

Bottle, bottled on 05/19/09. Pours a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma of caramel malt, tropical fruits, sweet citrus, and grassy hops. Flavor of sweet caramel and crackery malt initially with some citrus and bitter hops in the finish. Nice IPA, very drinkable, good hops/malt balance.

On tap at Imbibe. Pours a golden amber with a short head that leaves some nice lace behind. The smell is floral with a lot of citrus notes. The taste is not too hoppy with only a slightly bitter finish. It's a light to medium bodied beer that is very drinkable.

From a growler from Oliver's Beverage, poured into a tulip.

Dark golden, nice head forms. Some lacing too.

Aroma of pine and floral hops.

Flavor is mostly floral hops and a decent amount of orange/grapefruit notes. Not bitter. Light cracker-y malt backbone. Flavor is certainly hop-forward, but it's not exactly assertive.

Mouthfeel is medium and a bit creamy in the finish.

Overall this is a really easy-drinking, hop-forward beer--you could drink this all night. But it's not bold, by any means.

This IPA pours with a light copper amber hue with a white head on top. Fading quickly it leaves some spotty lacing. Very light carbonation.

Smells of hops and bready toasted malts.

Taste finds a solid malt base similar to the nose with a biscuit or toasted malts. Hops have a floral or citrus aspect but are on the light side.

On the palette it's medium with a grainy husky bitter aftertaste.

Overall a good solid brew.

A: Two fingers frothy ivory head over clear amber with light golden edges. A bit of retention and some good lacing on the glass.
S: Citrus hops with ripe grapefruit and tangerines. Bready malts to balance. Tangy and exciting on the nose.
T: Very subtle flavors. Same citrus notes as found in aroma. Big bready, somewhat toasted malts. It's a good balance for the most part (the hops and malts seem to trade dominance with each sip). I get a bit of florals, but have to dig a bit deeper to get at them. Some metallic notes pull through.
M: Medium body with crisp (but not high) carbonation. A very smooth mouthfeel.
D: I bet this is one of those IPAs where bottles just won't do. It's rather tasty, but I'd love to have this fresh on tap someday!

Cask @ Real Ale Fest 6/04 Carlsbad

This beer came to me a hazy orange with a low head. The aroma was of a huge pine tree forest with a million pine cones on the ground. The beer has an oily start which gives way to strong hop bitterness and restrained hop flavor. There is a steady malt backbone that comes through a bit as the bitterness fades to a dry dry finish. <Hop Burp> nice.

Overall: bitterness is a bit harsh.

A: The beer is clear light copper in color and has a very light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin off white head that slowly dissipated into lacy patterns.
S: There are aromas of citrus and pine resin hops in the nose; grapefruit stands out in particular.
T: The overall taste has a moderate amount of bitterness and flavors of caramel malts and grapefruit hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied, crisp and a bit sticky on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
D: The beer isn't that difficult to drink because the hops do not overpower the taste.

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 2" head that slowly falls. Some spotty lace develops.

Smell: light orange citrus and some soft floral bitterness are pleasant on the nose.

Taste: caramel, orange, plum sweetness, a hint of grapefruit, and some mild floral bitterness make up a straight forward IPA.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Crisp throughout with some hints of dryness late.

Drinkability: this is a very easy IPA to drink through a long session. Not a great IPA, but it hits the spot.

appearance: copperish-orange color and clear with a two finger foam that dissipated fairly quickly and left some nice lacing.

smell: pine and citrus hops up front with malt in back--malt is much less prominent.

taste: piney hops up front followed by some mild citrus. malt is present but behind the hops. bitter finish.

mouthfeel: light body with a sticky, astringent finish.

Nice for the summer, i'd have it again.

Pours a hazy orange color with a small off white head that falls quick to a ring not much in the way of lace.

Aroma is fruity citrus notes on a sweet caramel base, some light pine notes underneath.

Taste is like the nose caramel base with good citrus fruit notes. finish is lingering juicy fruit notes with some pine and light spice.

Mouthfeel is solid medium with good medium carbonation to add a touch of pep.

Overall its not bad looks little disappointing with small head but not bad flavor just nothing to rave about. Want to thank merlin48 for this bottle.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear texture. There was a big, rocky, long-lasting head. Pretty good lacing.

S: A nice aroma of hops, honey, citrus, and some malt.

T: Tasted of a little bit of malt, citrus (grapefruit, especially), a bready quality, some honey, and light hops. Not as hoppy as your normal IPA, which gives the honey and citrus a chance to shine. There's a slightly medicinal quality to the finish, especially in the finish and aftertaste, but this is a minor point.

F: A highly carbonated beer with a dry, slightly harsh finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this is a solid IPA, if a little uneven. Worth a try, if you're looking for something different.
