Chrome yellow with hints of burnt umber when held to the light. A full two fingers of soapy head that dissipates to sparse lacing as it fades. Smells of elegant musk, peppercorn and Vidalia onion crackling on a nice ribeye, pine needles and lemon peel. As the wind blew, I could smell the scent of Salma Hayek's hair. Taste follows but offers the subdued taste of cara cara, and an even fainter hint of tobacco leaf. The feel is full and voluptuous like a nursing mother. Sean did a masterful job of creating a session beer that feels like a standard IPA without the abv. Some brewers are gifted with everything that they do; Lawson's Finest fits that bill and then some. I feel so alive I could sh*t myself. On second thought, I'll just kiss myself. What a super freakin' session. Get u some!

Pours a beautiful cantaloupe orange with a frilly head of 1/2 finger. Leaves lace on the sides and remains bubbly throughout.

Fresh fruit on the nose, mainly melon, guava, orange, peaches. Very slight herbal qualities.

Wow. They really showcased the Amarillo hop here. It's the star of the show, and every facet of it is glamorized. If you're wondering what Amarillo hops can do in an IPA, this is the one to check out. Lots of white grapefruit to start - just pounds of it; followed by some onion slices, guava, citrus peels, lightly toasted bread crusts and a fade out of herbal dankness.

Feel is extremely resiny matched only by its equal intensity of carbonation. Just awesome.

Overall, I've had more drinkable "session" beers, but this doesn't skimp on flavor or volume. It's really crisp and fresh, not necessarily juicy, but incredibly drinkable.

This review comes with a caveat: I drank a Super Session immediately after a Sip Of Sunshine; poor tactical planning. Anyway, a very gentle hop experience and smooth crispness. Best enjoyed after warming a bit.

Lawson's Finest Liquids "Super Session #2"
12 fl. oz. can, "05/20/16" on 06/09/2016
$2.00 @ Beverage Warehouse, Winooski, VT

SS#2 pours a slightly hazy deep gold body with visible particulate in suspension, most likely from dry hopping. The white head offers only average head retention, and thus it leaves only wide streaks and spotty lacing about the glass.

The aroma is bright, not bold; and offers citrus that's fairly non-descript (similar to orange, lemon, pineapple, and soft grapefruit) as well as a puff of floral character and some soft pine and resin. Some softly sweetish grainy malt offers support from below.

The flavor is very similar with the addition of a light touch of resin and even less of what I find to be like "tomato plant". It's superbly balanced between malt and hop and bitterness, and although it's labelled as a "session IPA", at 4.8% ABV I'd call it American pale ale. It's hoppy in the nose before you take your sip, and then malty and hoppy across the middle, and finally bitter and resinous with residual pine in the finish. I don't think it's bitter enough to label it a "session IPA" though. Regardless of what you call it, it's really quite nice...

... and one of the things that makes that work is the softer carbonation and medium body. There's not a lot of carbonic acid to zest it up, and there's enough body that you're not disappointed that the aroma leads into a more "watery" beer.

Session IPAs haven't been at the top of my list of styles lately because I often find them lacking balance, even if that off-balance item is a pleasantly bold hop aroma. This, however, is brilliant! I could drink this all day and all night only to wake up in the morning and have another with breakfast! Kudos to the brewers who formulated it.

Once again, it pays to advertise! A local small businessman & friend travels with his teenage hockey-playing son and knows well of The CANQuest (tm), so he was thoughtful enough to bring me a CAN from a recent trip! Many thanks.

From the CAN: "Keep Cold! Enjoy Fresh!"; "Lawson's Finest Liquids is a small artisanal brewery located in Warren, Vermont, producing an array of hop-forward ales, specialty maple beers and unique creations. Super Session #2 is brewed by Lawson's Finest Liquids at Two Roads Brewing Co. in Stratford, CT. Learn more by visiting"; "Our Session IPA is so tasty and quaffable that it will leave you craving more! Super Session #2 features full malt flavor and assertive hop character with copious additions of Amarillo hops late in the kettle and in dry-hopping."

I was excited to Crack! this open since it is a rarity to see it in these parts. I was not disappointed, either, as it reveled itself to be brimful. A moderately gentle Glug raised two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, bone-white head with reasonable retention that slowly fell, leaving sticky lacing in its wake. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very cirtrusy, loads of grapefruit, but underlain with a minty, dank kind of herbal smell. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was slightly bitter, more like rind than pulp, but pleasant. I certainly did not experience the unwanted puckering that this sort of thing CAN cause.
Warming, I began to get more peach & tropical fruit flavor and less bitterness. It finished semi-dry and highly refreshing. I CAN certainly see people putting this into their summertime coolers! Nicely done & thanks again!

Poured into a 16 ounce glass from a 12 ounce can. Clear golden yellow with a beautiful creamy head that dissipates quickly with no lacing to speak of. Smells like a good IPA. The first sip reminds me of the Sip of Sunshine I had earlier but slightly more bitter but still has that Lawson's taste. Great carbonation with excellent mouthfeel and retention. Sweet and bitter at the same time. Very well balanced and an excellent session IPA. All hail Lawson Finest Liquids :-)

Fairly clear IPA for the NE. Decent nose presence of tasty hops. Upfront taste is smooth and hoppy, but the finish takes sharp turn to bitter I didn't expect in a sessionable IPA. Not perfect, but enjoyable nonetheless.

this for me was great, not mind blowing, as i kind of expect all lawson beer to be these days. its more clear than some of the other vermont hoppy stuff, and i was pleased to see it being poured into a pint glass (volume > shape with this one). its got a nice nose, a hint of that tangy fruity amarillo thing, but not as characteristic of the hop as i thought it might be. its not at all watery in body, even pushing medium in weight, just lower in alcohol, my kind of session beer here. i was a little underwhelmed that some of the hop freshness and uniqueness from the nose didnt come all the way though in the flavor, but if this came form almost any other brewery, we would all be raving about it, i think in my head i just hold them to a higher standard. anyone who makes maple barrel fayston can deserves that. well carbonated and quite clean in the finish, nice and refreshing beer with the citrus elements of the hops and even a hint of acid to it late, but i wanted more of what makes amarillo so popular these days, and it wasnt quite as pronounced, but its obviously awesome beer and well worth it. i am very sorry to have missed the third iteration of this one, with sorachi ace hops in it. someone send me a growler!

Strong lemon flavor is too powerful during early quaffs; settles down as get further into the beer.
