L: Dark pour with medium head

S: Mostly barrel heat and a touch of chocolate.

T: Heavy barrel presence with the base stout poking through. As it warms, the apple flavor softly rounds out the beer.

F: Thinner than what most people desire in a barrel aged stout. A bit more carbonated than necessary.

O: The barrel qualities overshadow the better parts of the base beer. Enjoyable but not the experience one would expect given the name of the beer.

great looking brew, dark pour as youd expect with a fayston variant, caramel head leaves lace sticking to the glass. big brandy soaked apple on the nose, slightly tarte, as well as sweeter notes, vanilla, toasted coconut, roasted malts. sticky chocolate, apple, caramel, toffee, woody notes and brandy on the palate. perfect amount of booze coming through and its an easy drinker for the abv. medium-full mouthfeel, slightly creamy. overall an excellent and interesting version of an already great stout.

375 mL bottle from 9th Anniversary Party. Poured into Veil glass and allowed to warm.

L: Beer is completely black. Pour results in small light-tan head with just about no retention. Only thing left is a thin tan ring

S: Barrel and apple brandy strong up front. Maple, coffee, roasted malts, spice, and vanilla. A whole lot going on here and the warming most definitely is worth it.

T: Apple brandy still up front on taste, but less dominant, which is good. You still get some of the barrel, plus maple, coffee, roasted malts, spice, vanilla through the palate. Impressively, there is nearly no trace of the ABV. Flavors are pretty soft and rounded in what could have been a "hot" stout.

F: Medium bodied, maybe a tad light for style and ABV, but this appears to be an overall feature of the base stout and less rare for the style than I believed a year ago. A little bit of carbonation, which also helps with the body and drinkability. Very solid construction and balance.

O: Either my taste has developed/matured, or this variant is considerably better than the previous ones I've tried. I hope more brewers consider the apple brandy barrel concept and now I'm kind of sad I traded my other bottle instead of aging (though it was a good trade).

Smells of Apples and roasted malt, appears dark black with a cremated coffee head. Taste s like apple cider the more I drink it. Very good overall.

Fro the bottle on 09/27/17.

Big roasted malt, cocoa and subtle fruit accents. Very little maple coming through. Would like to see the apple brandy take a more commanding roll.
