Another great beer from Lawson's Finest. Living in Vermont, you can expect 2 things: Good beer and good maple syrup. This beer combines the 2.

Pours pitch black with a nice, fluffy tan head. Aroma is very roasty with some chocolate and just a hint of maple sweetness. I expected the maple to be stronger in the aroma, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Taste is very roasty and not nearly as sweet as expected. There is maple flavor in there, but it's there just enough to let you know it's a maple stout and doesn't overpower. Very nice! Mouthfeel is ok, but could be a little creamier to put it out of this world. At over 10% ABV, the alcohol is well hidden. It's noticeable, but not distracting. Just another winner by Sean Lawson.

Pretty sure this is from Lawson's 6th Anniversary release (April 2014) since I don't believe this was released in bottles for the 7th Anniversary, and I got this bottle in a trade in April 2015. It's been chilling in the fridge almost that whole time, though...

Appearance - Pours completely pitch black, and is viscous as all hell. It sort of looks like tar as it empties from the bottle. Even the head is impressive, as it is a silky smooth and creamy texture, but is dark brown in color. It is definitely a beautiful looking beer, if not one that threatens with what lies within...

Aroma - The aroma is a mainly centered around roasted notes with an underlying sweetness. There's a good bit of coffee notes dangling around the nose which quickly transitions into a nice dark chocolate. I'm hard-pressed to say I can pick out any maple, but there's at least a suggestion.

Taste - The flavors pretty much echo the aroma step-for-step. From start to finish the roast is potent and easily the dominant flavor. Even the chocolate and other malts fall by the wayside. There isn't any actual coffee anymore here - just dark roast and a hint of char. There's not really even a subtle maple note here, unfortunately.

Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is spot-on for this big of a stout. It is thick and smooth with just the right amount of carbonation. No faults here.

Closing Arguments - Unfortunately I may have let this sit a bit too long. I've never had this fresh, but I have to imagine it would've had more maple than what is present now. Regardless, it is still a very good stout, but the maple is completely absent.
