Consumed Fall 2015. Didn't quite hold out long enough to wreck this at Thanksgiving.

Pours brown leaning into that dark red mahogany towards the edge kind of color, tan head 1/4". Big boozy rum barrel nose had me a little tepid going in for the first sip. Beyond that I suppose you could pull pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg kind of fall pie spices out of it.

Taste wasn't as hot or bitter as I thought. Perhaps Bruery's Autumn Maple gave me ptsd, which seems a pro pro since ptsd is most prevalent in the highest standard of living parts of the world and Bruery makes damn good beers (usually). Nice melding of pumpkin and rum, light suntan lotion meets rum kind of sweetness to it. Good drying note from the oak. That really helps this methinks. If you're like some weirdo who beats off to pumpkin beers, you might think the barrel gets in the way, but for me, this might be the best rum barrel beer I've had (Eclipse Rum barrel was shockingly good too) and its definitely my favorite pumpkin beer I can think of.

2013 bottle

A-Pours a thick reddish brown, one finger head

S-straight up rum, nothing else here

T-it tastes like pumpkin spice flavored rum. The rum flavor is predominant, overwhelming almost followed by an above average pumpkin spice flavor.

M-real crisp with perfect carbonation for the ABV

O-As one who does not care for pumpkin beer, this one is pretty good. The rum is overkill and it really only needed a little time to take the flavors but I'll bite.

Pours a dark golden orange color that appears caramel brown in the glass wih mahogany edges and a two finger off-white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Streaks of sappy lacing coat the glass on the way down.

Intense aroma but still very inviting. Smells like a rum soaked pumpkin pie with a prominent barrel presence that's nicely integrated into the notes of a pumpkin beer. Dry charred oak with slight toothpick character but not harsh or overwhelming. The tropical rum spiciness blends well with the autumnal spices, sweet malt and pumpkin pie notes. Rum soaked fruit cake with pumpkin purée, allspice, clove, nutmeg, ginger and vanilla.

Wow, this is a really big beer and you can definitely feel and taste it. Huge barrel presnce with strong rum flavors without becoming too hot or overpowering. Subtle oak and vanilla bean but not too charred or toothy. Spicy rum blends well with the autumnal spices and pumpkin pie flavors. Rum flavor is a little too sweet for my preference but there's a heavy spice presence balancing things out. zesty hints of black pepper, allspice, glove, ginger and nutmeg. The spices and strong barrel flavors take over the pumpkin elements. Shows up more as it warms with vanilla, nutmeg and pumpkin purée. Some boozy heat in the finish but the high ABV is decently masked once the palate adjusts. Could use more complexity and better balance but it's pretty flavorful with a nice blend of spicy rum, oak barrel, earthy spice and desert/pumpkin pie sweetness. Feels more like a barrel aged pumpkin barleywine.

A small pour was more than enough of this beer.

It smells like pumpkin pie filler.

The taste is basically a sweet pumpkin pureed with an awful bitter finish.

Definitely one to avoid.

750mL bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours a hazy sienna color with reddish highlights minimal tan froth.

(S)- A warming and welcomed aroma of pumpkin pie overall. Bigger on the spice but very sexy.

(T)- Liquid pumpkin pie. Slight hint of the rum barrel but a sexy flavor overall. Nice clove component on the finish.

(M)- Mellow carbonation level meets an incredibly sexy balance and mouthfeel. The rum barrel really brings the richness up a notch or two.

(O)- A sexy pumpkin ale. Everything is in the right place and really well balanced.

On tap at Hunahpu’s Day 2014 poured into commemorative taster. Brown and hazy with a hint of orange in body with a few bubbles of tan foam floating around the top. Aroma is loaded with pie spices: nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove plus vanilla and rum. Taste is like a blended pumpkin pie spiked with rum - moderately sweet with some woody bitterness from the spices. Medium-full body, thick texture, soft carbonation, boozy finish.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy tawny color with burnt orange highlights; not much lacing from the small head

Smell: Pumpkin and wheat bread, with some spice and rum tones

Taste: Bread and pumpkin with developing spice (cinnamon and nutmeg) flavors; some yeasty phenols in the mid-palate; the rum appears, after the swallow, and blends together nicely

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: A nice pumpkin beer with some interesting complexity from the rum barrel treatment

Best pumpkin beer I've had. The barrel, the spices, the pumpkin, the base beer are remarkably well balanced. Far less barrel dominated and far less boozy than most of these big BA Cigae City releases. Really delicious, easily surpassed expectations.

Bottled 10/18/13.

The aroma on this beer is so dominated by rum that if you blindfolded me, I'd think I was smelling a bottle of Captain...dayum! An awesome little element of caramel adds to the appeal of the smell as well.

Taste is way more balanced than you think it would be based on the aroma...there is slight vanilla, pumpkin and rum. None overpowers the other until the end, where rum is definitely noticeable in the finish.

A true gentlemen's pumpkin beer. I hope to someday redrink this surrounded by books upon books upon bookshelves.

A: Barleywine-ish, orange and murky, swirls of ingredients

T: Booze bomb, pumpkin and desert spices, if you don't like rum, this may be difficult for your lesser being. It has arrived and it isnt going anywhere.

M: Creamy and delicious

O: I had this on the fermenter before anyone could even fathom such an idea, right before CCB bottled this gem. Perfect. Good luck finding it.

Shared large bottle.
Drinks like a barleywine, with a somewhat thin body and obviously high ABV.
Overly sweet but otherwise good balance and good, if strong, use of rum barrel aging. Subtle pumpkin.

This was an amazing beer! The best pumpkin beer I've ever had hands down. The pumpkin spice is very forward and lingers on the tongue like a dancing hippo. Simply put, it's like someone dumped a pumpkin pie in a blender and hit puree. Then it was poured into a bottle and used to send me to ecstasy!

No head really on a murky and muddy brown with gold tinged body. Aroma is incredible with very sweet caramel, vanilla, rum, nutmeg, pumpkin, brown sugar and cinnamon. Aroma is better than the flavor could ever be, one of the best smelling beers I have encountered, possibly the best. Flavor follows with a complex blend of fresh pumpkin, vanilla like I have never experienced , spiced rum, cinnamon and nutmeg. Smooth and thick body. Great beer. Would be even better with right food choices.

The beer comes in a dark orange brown.

The aroma has bright spicy rum along with pumpkin spices of clove, cinnamon, all spice, along with pumpkin sweetness.

The flavor follows with a punch of rum and barrels in the front along with the base beer shining through of the pumpkin and spices. There's even a rind flavor in there. The spices and pumpkin flow well together with this medium plus sweet rum flavor.

An absolutely delicious rum barrel aged beer, and an even better pumpkin beer, quite possibly the best I have had..

El Cat member here, & have to admit I'm not wild about pumpkin beers, so this was low on my list of things I was excited about. But hey, here we all are. 750ML bottle split with my wife while watching Minority Report.

The pour looks like hideously pureed pumpkin brain: dark orange & murky as the Mississippi in high spring water. Smells like pumpkin gingerbread cookies. And that's all I have to say about that.

Good Gourd Almighty is fucking weird: I have never put anything like this into the sacred temple of my body. Follows the nose to a 'T' except for the rum: there's a strong cross-current of rum loveliness soaking the cookies. The pumpkin is light, thank the Great Pumpkin, & it is cut with a double-fist of spicing. A weakness is the heaviness, this feels like a glut of heavy oil in the stomach. Half a bomber? Probably a bit too much, honestly.

Interesting is the highest compliment I can pay this & the El Cat beers I've had to date have certainly been unique. This one is too heavy & deep to really hit the bullseye, but still a pretty good beer.

Bought at huna day. Poured into a tulip glass.

A- a deep brown with and orange hue. The head is about a quarter inch and goes away leaving a white lace on the outside of the beer. Doesn't look great bit whatever.

S- spicy notes with sone heat. A wheat smell mixes well with the pumpkin. Smells a lot like pumpkin bread. Rum comes into the nose on the back end. The smell makes me want to eat pumpkin bread.

T- the first hit is pumpkin. Not a ridiculously strong pumpkin sensation that some beer have but enough to let you know there are pumpkin spices in there. There's some cinnamon in there that cones through. Also sone nutmeg flavor on the back end. The rum isn't all that noticeable but you can tell it's definitely there. A very complex flavor.

M- smooth, like what silk would taste if it was made into a beer. Little to no carbonation due to the pumpkin and rum. Not very much heat either, which you would expect from a rum aged beer.

O- the best pumpkin beer i've ever had. Silky and smooth and a delicious blend of rum, pumpkin, cinnamon, and spices. So smooth and no disappointment.

Thanks to the members of El Catador Club for sharing this one at Retsinis' tasting.

Bottled 10/18/13.

Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy beige head that fades to nothing. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, earth, and rum aromas. Taste is much the same with pumpkin spice and rum flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with spice qualities that are more individually distinct in the aroma.

Ok well this is an odd beer.

Has a nice off white head, and a darker appearance than Good Gourd.

Smells exactly like a rum and coke. So weird. Not bad, but just strange.

There's more Good Gourd in the taste. It's pretty tasty, but I might actually prefer regular Good Gourd.

Very smooth, not boozy. Fairly full.

Overall, this is quite good, but not as good as Good Gourd. Admittedly, I don't like rum very much. So that probably didn't help. I'm a bourbon guy, so the sweetness and spice added by the rum wasn't as pleasurable as I'd hoped.

Pours a murky orange brown color with a half finger off-white head that dissipated rather quickly. The aroma overwhelms with some of that barrel rum, which later fades into a beautiful sweet medley of vanilla cream, pumpkin spices, caramel, toffee, cream, nutmeg, and a touch of brown sugar. The flavors do not stray far from those qualities - gentle spice and mellow sweetness make their way through the heat which becomes near non-existent, giving just a kiss on the way backend. I liked how the rum barrel provides a synergy of flavors and brings the beer into focus. This is definitely one of my favorite pumpkin beers.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a snifter. Pours a warm amber color with a slight tan head. Some lacing. Strong aroma of rum and warm spices. Rum and spice flavor dominates at first. As the beer warms the flavors really develop well and achieve a nice balance between pumpkin, spices, and barrel aged flavors. A wonderful sipping beer. Lacks the mouthfeel and thickness that you would expect from a CCB beer or a barrel aged beer. The barrel aging doesn't add as much to the already near-perfect Good Gourd as I would expect. I highly recommend serving this beer warmer than your average pumpkin ale.

A-Cloudy ruby red, some carbonation, one finger head that leaves some lacing.

S-Lots of rum, some spice, tad bit of pumpkin.

T-Starts with some rum and then balanced out with spice and cinnamon. However the pumpkin never really comes through and the rum slightly dominates.

M-Lighter to medium in body, not much carbonation and some alcohol heat.

O-Too much rum. Like Avery Rumpkin the rum donimates the other flavors. Maybe aging would help but the rum needs to be toned down.

750 ml bottle into snifter

Pours a murky amber brown with a small khaki head that fades fairly quickly. Smell is like a rum soaked pumpkin pie, tons of spice and rum notes. Great smell. Taste is rum heavy almost overpowering. Cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, pumpkin and molasses are also present and go well with the rum flavors. Medium to heavy bodied with lower carbonation. Overall a great pumpkin beer that would be good to sip on after a big thanksgiving dinner.

Bottle shared with Beastmaster. Pours a super murky orange brown color with a half finger yellowish head that recedes quickly. Aroma is overwhelming rum booze--smells like white rum rather than a spiced or dark rum unfortunately--some sweetness, some sour vinegar. Sure hope this isn't infected. Aroma improves dramatically as this warms. more Vanilla cream and squash aroma. Flavor is not sour, thank goodness. Big time rum up front fades into a beautiful sweet medley of vanilla cream and sweet butterscotchy pumpkin. The massive rum up front isn't my favorite, but the wave of amazing vanilla cream pumpkin that comes afterward and lingers on the palate is superb. Super low carbonation, nearly none, and medium thick mouthfeel that I am not a huge fan of. Overall this needs improvement but that lingering vanilla cream flavor saves it and makes this a rich treat good enough for sipping. But I was extremely disappointed here and not sure what CCB Koolaid everyone else is drinking...

750mL bottle acquired through the El Catador club. 25.00. Bottled 10/18/13. Served in a Cigar City snifter.

Pours a murky, opaque orange brown with a half finger sandy cream head. The head fades to a thin ring, leaving no lace.

Smells of heavily spiced rum-glazed pumpkin pie. Strong rum scent on top of allspice, nutmeg and distant pumpkin.

The dense layers of rum are even more present in the flavor without fully covering waves of pumpkin pulp, cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, earth/ wood, cola, faint molasses and alcohol. Very flavorful with lots of rum.

Almost syrupy medium full body with mild carbonation. Rum and pie spice finish.

An excellent treatment to an already fantastic base. It seems a bit heavier, I'm guessing they amped up Good Gourd to stand up to the rum. Not quite as easily drinkable as I find the original but I'm quite happy to have tried this.
