Very dark pour with a tan head. Aroma strongly of cedar with a hint of smoke. Really nice and unique. Toast doesn't contain quite as much cedar and smoke, it is just a hint. Instead there is chocolaty roast with just a hint of smoke and wood, then a dose of hops on the finish. A very nice velvety mouthfeel with a medium body, but it drinks more like a 7% percent beer than an 11% beer. Really nice.

Another in a long list of thank yous to moose3285, who acted as my El Cat trustee...then proceeded to send me extras (including this one). 750ML bottle split with my smoked-beer hating wife. I told her it was a "cedar-aged english stout". True, right?

Pour is appropriately dark with enough carbonation to let me know this isn't chocolate milk. The nose is just like being entombed for a few centuries in a cedar chest, then waking up to have a cedar Ent leaning over you. Holy wood. Even for CC, this is an extreme amount of cedar. Luckily, I'm very fond of trees. No smell of beer.

Humidor Series Smoked English Imperial Stout is akin to licking a lightning-blasted cedar tree. The cedar mill in the nose is replicated in the taste at close to the same level, but the base beer at least gets in a few nicks. The CC trademark roast is still kicking, mixed in with a faint whiff of the smoke. Underlying sweetness that's close to chocolate. Thick enough in the mouth that it turns my slobber to dark sap. And I'm suckling hard.

One of the better one-dimensional beers I've had. The cedar has been laid on with a heavy hand the size of a front-loader, but it's delicious. Very good.

Pours a pitch dark brown with thin dense medium brown head, sheet of delicate lace trails the liquid by an inch. Smell: dark chocolate, raisin, ripe plum; roasty and caramel with a dose of cigar box. Taste: smoke and roast are big upfront, then dark chocolate and dark fruit get overwhelmed by cedar and evergreen. Full bodied, cedar heavy finish. Pretty enjoyable.

#3 1/24/14

A thick dark brown with a likewise dark brown head, this beer looks like many imperial stouts out there. It does show some give at the edges. The head's retention is good, though it doesn't exceed half a finger's height. Structure is strong, though, and lacing displays it with sturdy patches.
This is a big and robust beer, dry but with lots of richness to it. There's a ton of roast giving way to smoked woods in the middle that remain into the finish. Nut comes through underneath bigger flavors including chocolate in the front and a hint of tobacco leaf from front to end. It finishes woody and dry with notes of ash or cedar. I can see lovers of big American versions not liking this as much as what they're used to with the dryness, but the integration and use of the dryness in flavor and feel is quite masterful.
Speaking of, yes, the body's dry, but it's also rich and smooth with a light crispness in a good, firm body with the strength to carry through from the beginning of the first sip to the end of the last.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky and glass staining black. Nice khaki head. Wispy surface and a thick collar.

Smell - Lots of cedar. Sweet smelling. Chocolate and a hint of smoke.

Taste - More of a smoke flavor. Roasted malts. Coffee. A bucket of cedar. Sweet.

Mouthfeel - Hefty body. Viscous. A hint of booze.

Overall - Tasty stout, as always from CCB. No idea what they mean by English.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, char, smoke, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, char, and smoke flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast and smoke bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a smoke presence that seems a bit more refined in the taste.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/21/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, cedar, tobacco, light char/molasses, light leather, light raisin/plum, and roast/smoke earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, smoke, cedar, and light fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, cedar, light char, tobacco, light char/molasses, light leather, light raisin/plum, and roast/smoke earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, smoke, cedar, tobacco, light char/molasses, light raisin, light leather, and roast/smoke earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, cedar, smoke, and light fruity ester flavors; with a good roasted malt bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent smoked imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, smoke, cedar, and light fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
