Poured from a 750 into a vase, the beer is a very dark, almost black, caramel-amber coloring, deep and rich, with no head. Aromas of molasses, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg spice, rich nut sweetness, brown sugar, and woody highlights. Very rich, very layered, and very rich (yes, again). Flavors are very rich and sweet forward, with a blast of molasses and nut first to the tongue. Vanilla highlights, creamy and smooth amidst the darkness, followed by booze highlights and woody characteristics. This one is rich and layered, but maintaining a smooth, slick feel throughout. The aftertaste is more of the pecan nut sweetness, with cinnamon and sugary linger, as well. The finish is slick, smooth, and slightly cloying.

Clear deep, dark red
Sweet syrupy aroma with caramel, brown sugar and light spicing.

More sweet than bitter, Not much pecan or even nutty flavor.
Full smooth body with lively carbonation that is, perhaps, a little too high.

O: a bit to sweet and syrupy, with insufficient input from the pecans, which seem to new missing in action.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep brown. Medium khaki head. Settles to a thin collar. Then nothing.

Smell - Lots of vanilla. Nutty. Chocolatey. Brown sugar. Boozy.

Taste - Buckets of vanilla. Very sweet. Brown sugar. Caramel. Sweetness dies down into a nuttier flavor. Drops off in the back end. Boozy nutty finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation. Big and boozy.

Overall - Tasty. A little bit of a mess, but tasty.

Have been sitting on this for a couple of years and finally got around to cracking it with some friends. Was a little worried when we opened it because it was a slight gusher, but not too bad. Smell was a bit of the pecans. Taste was sweet and nutty. Slight vanilla? Really nice. Decent carbonation, but not too bad. Good overall mouthfeel. Glad this turned out well.

750 ml. bottle (from notes, 4/17/14)

A: Dark brown with a slight amber hue.

S: Vanilla and pecans. It smelled sweet and like pecan pie.

T: Lingering sweetness. Lots of vanilla. Quite sweet. It tasted like liquid pie, albeit I very rarely eat pecan pie since it is too sweet for me.

M: Smooth with only slight carbonation.

O: Good stuff but it is probably too sweet for most.
