Bought a four pack of this, and no matter how hard I try, I just cant get into the whole session IPA thing. I guess for the style, this is pretty good, but I cant give a good rating to a beer that I just don't like. I love IPA and IIPA and PA but session IPA don't do it for me. Loads of hops in the nose. Hoppy and bitter in the flavor but very watery mouth feel makes for an unbalanced, unsatisfying mess. Maybe that defines a session IPA?

Canned 8/26 and served cold into a shaker pint glass.

Happening Now is a hazy pale yellow color. The head is thick after a vigorous pour with good retention and lacing.

Aroma is hoppy and fresh with pleasant grapefruit and mango character.

Flavor is full of great citrus juice and zest. It is well balanced with just the right amount of sweetness to balance the hoppy bitterness. Orange candy comes though.

Mouthfeel is light in body and appropriately carbonated.

Overall probably the best session IPA I've had. It's not a style I'm generally found of but this one could change that.

12 oz can was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale yellow orange color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Toasted malts, pale malts, slight citrus, floral, herbal, and grassy hops.

Taste: You pick up a better hop flavor when drinking the beer. Goes well with the light malts base. I could enjoy several of these while watching football with people.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, refreshing, easy to drink, a little chewy, medium carbonation, and slight bitterness.

Overall: Not too shabby of a 4.5% beverage. More hops would have been nice, but I'm pretty happy with this one.

i had way higher hopes for this, but it just sort of dies on the palate. it looks and smells nice. golden, mostly clear, and heady, with aromas of pineapple and tropical hops. the flavor is just too bitter for the more delicate fruity aspects of the hops to come out, and there is more grain interference than necessary for a session type. i do think its well made, and i like that the body is a little more full than most of these, but the bitterness is filling, almost defeating the original purpose. cigar city doesnt come around much here, so i always buy it when it does, but this is the first one to be below expectations. its a decent session beer, but a league at least below the best ones out there. not as refreshing as hoped for, although carbonation is nice. interesting take on it, i didnt dislike it, but its not as sessionable as it should be.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. can into a Cigar City pint glass.

A: Hazy gold, with a couple fingers worth of white fluffy head and a good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Light cracker malt that is somewhat husky, some resin and grapefruit rind hop character. Nothing particularly outstanding here.

T: Follows the nose – bitterness from the hops up front, the cracker malt body, then the hop flavors (resin primarily with some light citrus) but still I get mostly the alpha bitterness. The husk character comes through in the end. Hop bitter in the hang.

M: Light body, good carbonation sensation, and low alcohol presence.

O: This was a decent APA/session IPA/whatever. But I felt like it needed more hop flavors to accompany the bitterness. The graininess in the malt bill is borderline obnoxious too. Not a bad beer, but there are many better IPA options available in cans these days.
