Guayabera Citra Pale AleGuayabera Citra Pale Ale
Notes: Traditional throughout Latin America, the guayabera shirt combines style, functionality, form and tradition in it’s four-pocketed design. We at Cigar City feel the same reverence and appreciation for the guayabera that we do for the Citra hop varietal, an ingredient that imparts notes of tangerine, lime and berries to this traditional American Pale Ale. The exclusive use of Citra hops in this beer creates a flavor that’s at once unique and recognizable, while it’s dry, crisp character and moderate alcohol make it as refreshing and functional as a crisp linen guayabera.

Pours light amber with a 1 inch white head, which lasts. Moderate lacing. Suspended yeast particles. Hazy.

Aroma is lime, grapefruit, orange, pine.

Taste of lime, grapefruit zest, mango, slight pineapple, slight grassiness.

Medium bodied, lively carbonation. dry finish.

A nice pale ale. Fruiter than most I've had of this style.

Better clarity than most other IPAs, almost light wheat color but sweet, hoppy taste, crisp and pleasing. It is lighter and less caramel tasting than Jai Alai but not as sweet and potent as Florida Man Double IPA. It compares favorably to Surly Xtra Citra and Toppling Goliath PseudoSue, two of my favorite go-to IPAs.

CAN
Clear pale amber with leggy head; lime, green mango, honeydew, ganga + more lime on the nose; light breadiness then grapefruit chunks + gooseberry shifting to lime sorbet, melon, herb, and green Swedish fish + slight grassy end; oily + soft. Nectarine sweetness as it opens.

Jul 1 canning - 8 weeks old. Big lemon oil nose doesn’t prepare you for all the angles that the flavour brings.
It starts with lean, almost tart citrus that drops in big candied fruit, almost like green pixie sticks, with hints of tropical lushness as base notes.
That’s a long way of saying there’s a helluva lot going on here for a 5.5% beer.
Add a soft body + I could stick on this all evening.

One of the best representations of Citra I’ve tasted.

Pours about an inch of head, a golden - orange color. The aroma is nice and reeks of citrus and pine. The taste is also citra, pine, pretty hoppy like an IPA , with a crisp finish. Tasty and thirst quenching, what a combo.
This is like an IPA Jr due to it’s hoppiness but light, refreshing and delicious. It’s one of the best Pale Ale’s in my jurisdiction and I always buy it if not too old, cheers!

L: Balanced color. Hazy. Plenty of carbonation to be had.

S: Piney and certifiably dank.

T: New England style with spice. Quite nice.

F: The residual is quite welcome.

O: Fresh ingredients conditioned appropriately. The amount of flavor they packed into 50 IBU and 5.5% ABV is unreal. I said this about the Florida Cracker and I'll say it again: Nothing quite like it.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a British pint glass.

L - Cloudy appearance with a straw color and some orange when held up to the light. Fluffy white head made of large, distinct bubbles.

S - Aromas are led by the hop: grapefruit and low tropical fruit. Low, bread-like malt lies behind that. The impression is fresh and fruity.

T - Flavors show an even balance between the sweet, bready malt that hits first, and strong, hop-derived orange/grapefruit/mango that surges later in the palate. Sweet, fruity finish.

F - Medium body with a low creaminess. Medium carbonation. Low alcohol presence.

O - I'd characterize this as a kid cousin of a New England IPA. It's not quite as turbid, thick and bitter, but has many similarities. It's a pleasant-drinking mini-NEIPA.

Th beer is goldenrod and hazy. There is a fluffy white head that complements the body well. It smells grassy and citrusy on strongly with some malty notes. The citra really comes through on the taste as well. It is bitter, and aromatic. The malt characteristic is scone like. The mouthfeel is full and foamy. Overall, a great citra beer.

DATE: July 25, 2020... OCCASION: more Community on a warm night after returning from the great lake home... GLASSWARE: Abita pint... the first of three beers to be reviewed from the mix pack I bought this week... pours a dark golden body that sports hole-ridden, off-white suds... they reduce to a quarter-fingered smear.... super citra--lime and grapefruit explode while earthiness and subtle berries, light spiciness and more lime... smooth and active, refreshing at 5.5%... clean and dry at the finish... its body is pleasingly medium-bodied... lime, pineapple, tangerine, lime, and a tinge of herbals to build a nuanced experience... this snuck up on me, as singular citras usually produce great flavors as a baseline, but this one delivers such impact for a pale ale...

Another outstanding summer beer from Cigar City. Cloudy lemon look on the pour, with big fluffy head and lots of lace. Big hoppy aroma, with a hoppy, slightly bitter fruit taste and a crisp, dry finish. Very refreshing beer on a hot day! I will be buying these again...

L:. Pours a gold orange with a small foamy white head and a small amount of soapy lacing.

S:. The citra hops are very noticeable in this one, ripe orange, kiwi, lemon, but notes of piney, lots of hops overall.

T:. Lots of ripe tropical fruit, including orange, kiwi, lemon, notes of grapefruit and lemon rind, a medium bitterness, sweet but the hops bitterness balance it out.

F:. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel.

O:. This is a very tasty pale ale

T-Yep, there's the orange, lime, grapefruit, and a bit of dank hoppy on the backside of the swish. Moderately sweet, less bitter.
M-Medium (-) body but with a silky creamy finish on the shwish. Light carbonation
O-Excellent thirst quencher on a hot day

This was my first beer from Florida (I think I’m telling you a lie here - I already had Victory before) and a very decent one - actually, even better than that.
For a perfect start, it poured hazy and somewhere between straw and amber, although not as hazy as your modern “hazy” ones but rather something you would expect from an unfiltered pale ale. Guess Citra did its job, because both in the aroma and the flavor it played a major role, and had a bit more to it - it wasn’t just your “average” Citra feel but something juicier, zestier, something that made you feel that you’re actually drinking a grapefruit or an orange juice, was very citrusy.
But at the same time it was still a pale ale, it kept its subtlety, its moderate character, which did not make the beer refrain feom tasting very well.
The overall impression of this pale ale was surprisingly good, much more intensive and fresh than expected - to an extent that I’m really looking forward to trying their Jai Alai IPA next time.

Pale amber pour with excellent clarity; big rocky white foam to finish the pour; good cap retention, solid ring, soapy lacing. Kinda dank, grapefruit nose. Bitter lemon rind, orange peel, solid caramel malt foundation. Medium light body, moderate carbonation, sticky feel; no astringency; clean and easy drinking. Overall an excellent pale ale; tasty with a firm body; bitter citrus rind linger; and crushable at 5.5%; a great anytime beer.

12 oz can into a pint glass. Canned date was 1/18/20. Hazy orange. Lots of streaming bubbles. Nice foam and decent lacing. Faint whiff of unknown fruit. Tangerine and berries for taste w/ a slight bitterness. Aftertaste not bad and fades quickly. Mouthfeel was creamy and smooth. Dry. Overall a great beer. I got this in a mixed variety pack, Will be buying a six-pack the next time I get to a liquor store. Final rating: A

Not bad, not great... For me, the smell was the most interesting part - had some nice citrus going on, but in an unusual lime-forward way that I liked. Gave a nice tropical vibe. But the flavor just didn't bring the same potency. It struck me as a touch too bitter to be balanced by the other elements, and just didn't carry a lot of interesting flavor. It wasn't bad, and I drank it all happily, but it's not one I'll seek out again. 0/2 on Cigar City beers so far...

Lovely looking Pale Ale poured into the glass..slightly cloudy orange body with a tumultuous rocky off white head.
Aromas..some lime leaves, oranges..quite mellow though.
Taste is medium bitter..with lime in the background..some orange peel..OK
Mouth feel is not too bad..above average for the style..nice carbonation.
Once again i am disappointed with a supposedly great beer from "back east"..now i see the date on the bottom the the can 9/17... guessing this beer is 7 months old.

This is fantastic for an APA with such low ABV. Lots of flavor. The description from CCB says there are notes of lime, and I would definitely agree with that. Aside from that, big grapefruit flavor.

12oz can poured in to a nonic glass, can is dated 10/03/19 old AF.

Look- Clear golden amber color. modest bright white head with good retention, solid lacing. Ample carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Citrus (orange, grapefruit, lemon and lime peel), pineapple and gooseberry, bready malt, pine and floral/grassy hop notes.

Taste- Similar to the aroma. Citrus, pineapple, gooseberry, pine presents itself more than in the aroma, bready malts with a moderate lingering hoppy bitter finish. Pretty well balanced.

Feel- Medium/light bodied and really crisp. Medium carbonation on the tongue.

O- A nice easy drinking PA, wish I had a fresher can. Really affordable too, worth checking out.

This is a really nice alternative to my usual goto IPAs. It's especially refreshing in the heat of southwest Florida. It pours and smells like a top west coast IPA, full of citrusy goodness. And with an IBU count of 50 it tastes like an IPA, yet feels like a pale ale. Strongly recommended.
