Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Traditional throughout Latin America, the guayabera shirt combines style, functionality, form and tradition in it’s four-pocketed design. We at Cigar City feel the same reverence and appreciation for the guayabera that we do for the Citra hop varietal, an ingredient that imparts notes of tangerine, lime and berries to this traditional American Pale Ale. The exclusive use of Citra hops in this beer creates a flavor that’s at once unique and recognizable, while it’s dry, crisp character and moderate alcohol make it as refreshing and functional as a crisp linen guayabera.

I must be missing something. I am tasting some citrus combined with soap. A bit disappointed.

Hazy orange color. Lot of rising bubbles. 1 finger white head. Citrus aromas and flavor. Some tropical fruit aromas. It kind of tastes like a West Coast IPA that sat on the shelf too long. Crisp, zingy mouthfeel. Very dry finish similar to ginger ale.

Brief impression from a can:

Overcarbonated but drinkable with a pleasant hop profile.

The beer comes in a hazy medium gold color, fluffy head that lingers.

The only 5 weeks from canning and it's a big bag of wet paper, tea leaves, bit of spicy and herbaceous hops, some grainy and bready sweetness.

The flavor follows with more of that cardboard and paper, a tinge of citrus and light crackery sweetness, onto a lingering medium minus bitterness.

Unsure what could have happened to this can in a short period of time for this to happen.

Appearance: Golden, maybe a tinge of amber and fairly clear, capped by a thinnish, white head.

Smell: Garden variety pale malts with aromatic hops smelling of green herb of the kind bud variety, sharp citrus and some pine.

Taste: Pale malts, minor hint of toasted grains, a bit bready. Little showing of malty sweetness. Robustly herbal, pulped citrus fruits and (again) some pine. Moderate bitterness. Hop flavors and their imparted bitterness carry one through the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: It's a hoppy ale, alright.

12 oz can dated 5/8/18.

Pours a lush honey-golden color with a creamy cap of 1 finger in my Nordeast glass.

Aroma of caramel malts, onion, garlic, grapefruit, and stringy tangerine.

The caramel malts come forward with hints of orange peel and grapefruit, slight onion, pepper, and finally garlic.

Feel is very carbonated with a thin mouthfeel.

Overall, I think it's ridiculous that Cigar City beers go south so quickly. a 60 day old IPA isn't ideal, but it shouldn't taste like rainwater from a garbage can lid. Jai and Invasion don't even fade this fast and I'm in the camp that after 90 days those two are toast.

Taste: fresh, floral, guava fruit, white pepper, some bitter hops, dry finish. Floral spicy citrus aroma is notable. Gold, hazy, white soapy head some ringed lace. Medium body. Herbal and dry and almost an IPA. 50 IBUs
