Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Traditional throughout Latin America, the guayabera shirt combines style, functionality, form and tradition in it’s four-pocketed design. We at Cigar City feel the same reverence and appreciation for the guayabera that we do for the Citra hop varietal, an ingredient that imparts notes of tangerine, lime and berries to this traditional American Pale Ale. The exclusive use of Citra hops in this beer creates a flavor that’s at once unique and recognizable, while it’s dry, crisp character and moderate alcohol make it as refreshing and functional as a crisp linen guayabera.

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at Cigar City's tasting room. I didn't make note of the serving glass - I would assume a shaker pint.

A: Pale gold, mildly hazy, with a finger's worth of white white and average visible carbonation bubbles.

S: Huge citra hops up front (oranges, tropical fruit, lychee and a little grassy) over light cracker malts.

T: Follows the nose - tropical fruit, orange citrus, light peaches and herbal. Minimal sweetness from the cracker malts. Not particularly bitter compared to other APAs around.

M: Light body, minimal alcohol presence, good carbonation sensation.

O: I really dig this one. Hopefully it will become a regular from CCB. I think it's a bit better than Invasion.

Pours bright orange, clear, crisp and effervescent. Thin white head dissipates rather quickly leaving a thin white film on the top of the beer. some mild lacing is noted, but not much.

Smell is a veritable burst of aromas. The citra aroma hits your nose like a right hook to the face. Its awesome. Tons of orange, grapefruit, mango. Slight undertone of a malt backbone. This beer is so aromatic - its really exemplary.

Taste follows the nose with notes of orange, orange zest, grapefruit, grapefruit juice and some mango. Nice solid malt backbone provides some caramel sweetness. Very balanced flavors in this one - its a wonderful showcase of the citra hop, but its given a lovely depth with the solid malt backbone.

Feel is light, crisp, smooth, and very drinkable. Medium carbonation.

Overall a really nicely done citra pale ale from Cigar City. If I had this readily available, Id drink this all the time. Its ashame this is not more readily available in Florida because its a phenomenal beer.

12 oz can picked up from the brewery 7/23 with a date of 7/22

Bright gold color. Slightly cloudy, but fairly clear overall. Huge pillowing off-white foamy head. A little bit of lacing.

You can smell it from 2 feet away. Lots of citrus and very fresh smelling malted grains. I would say orange and something along the lines of papaya.

The flavor doesn't quite live up to the aroma. It seems to be a little less balanced. A bunch of papaya, peach, orange, and cantelope. A little bit of zest. The fruit really dominates early and often, especially when colder. As it warms, the pale malts start to take over and it becomes much more grainy. Very, very good. If it was as balanced all the way through I would throw out Zombie Dust comparriosns because it isnt far away. Just not as hoppy.

Soft delicate body. Very airy/fluffy.

An outstanding pale ale. Wish I would have brought more home.

I had this one on tap at the Side Car which is a cool little cocktail, craft beer & whiskey bar co-located with V’s pizza in the San Marco neighborhood of Jacksonville.

Served an in imperial pint the beer is a hazy apricot color with an off white head. It has really nice lacing.

Aroma of tropical fruits and some grains.

Taste is slight sweet with hints of tangerine, peach, and pine all backed by some semisweet cracker like malts.

The mouth is medium which make it crushable.
