Reviewed from long-standing notes. Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Fat Heads pint glass.

A: Pours a crystal clear gold, and forms two fingers' worth of white head with decent retention. Fairly low visible carbonation.

S: Strawberries - both fresh and Strawberry Quik. Crisp light malts with some graham cracker sweetness, and some strawberry Twizzlers. Light vanilla notes make it seem like a strawberry creamsicle.

T: Strawberries - fresh and ripe and candied. More Graham crackers, two-row cracker malt sweetness and pilsner malts. Mildly tart, and just a bit of hop bitterness shows up near the end. Finishes with lingering strawberry sweetness.

M: Light crisp body with good carbonation sensation. Low alcohol presence.

O: Drinkable and not overly sweet, despite all the potentially sweet flavors going on here. Gimmicky maybe, and not my personal preference, but really not as bad as I thought it might be.

cool beer right here, and cigar city is one of the only breweries who can get away with something like this! it really smells and tastes exactly like strawberry shortcake. the malt is built just about right to mimic the cake, and the fruit is sweet and jammy, condensed and cooked down, but definitely real fruit and delicious. surprised they can get so much of this aroma and flavor into such a light beer, low alcohol, light body, blasting carbonation, and really not a lot of mass at all to it, just an easy drinking highly flavorful beer with a lot less residual sugar than it would seem like it should have. lots of strawberry up front with the biscuit underneath it, notes of honey and yeast permeate a little bit too, driven even further by the effervescent carbonation. im not sure how much of this i would really want to drink, but it was a really interesting and fun bottle to share. i like how true it is to the dessert, and how it somehow remains a delicate and light beer even though there is so much going on. these guys do a lot of weird stuff, but they have a free pass to try stuff like this i think, they have more than earned that with the amount of the seemingly gimmicky stuff that actually pans out so well...

22oz bottle
Bottled on: Jan 2016

A: Pours a clear, straw yellow with 2+ fingers width of white head that dissipates quickly leaving almost no lacing. 3.5

S: Aroma is quite sweet, lots of sugary sweetness and big strawberries. It does have a short cake-esque / angel food cake type aroma. 4

T: Doesn’t taste nearly as good as the aroma, although most of the components are there. Pale malts up front, and artificial strawberry flavoring on the finish. Also sugary sweetness on the finish. Not a ton going on, not bad, but just ok. 3.25

M/D: Mouthfeel is lighter side of medium body, carbonation appropriate, drinkability is ok. 3.5

O: Nice aroma, taste was a let down. I know at around 8 months plus its likely past its prime, wonder how it was fresh. As is, its worth a drink but I don’t think I’d purchase another. 3.5

"This beer tastes a lot like strawberry shortcake, which is a good thing considering its name." Brewed in the style of a Munich Helles Lager, with strawberry flavor added. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp foamy pastel white head over a moderately hazy straw yellow body with abundant, lively carbonation. Retention is below average and lacing is light and spotty. 3.25

(Smell) Strawberry puree and syrup generates a rich and potent strawberry aroma to dominate the overall impressions, with subtle undertones of grassy hops with a reserved bitterness and light biscuit and cracker malts. Potency is high with an overall sweetness perceived. 3.5

(Taste) The flavor is notably better balanced with biscuit and pale malts forming a lightly sweetened crust of malt and the flavors of strawberry jam and puree, much less a single driving force than the aroma suggested, but a key player in the flavor profile overall, and generates a moderate sweetness for an overall dessert-like beer. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly oily, softly chewy, smooth, lightly dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a medium crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, light/medium overall. Balance is very sweet over hoppy bitter and specialty malt body. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 3.75

(Overall) An interesting beer that does a decent job at making a liquid impression of a strawberry shortcake, but overall very much a dessert beer in itself, despite being respectably subdued in the flavor, the strawberry delivery is very saccharine and does not manage a good balance in this beer. Overall enjoyable, but I don't see the need to revisit this beer anytime soon. 3.75

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A- pours a bright golden color with a one-finger foamy white head that has great retention

S- smells of puréed strawberries & sugary angel food cake , underlined by clean toasted grainy malt

T- light fruity sweetness hits the tongue up front, immediately followed by strawberries and strawberry syrup, pretty spot on strawberry flavor for the shortcake filling. Clean toasted backbone balances the light sweetness and finishes semi-dry with a light linger of strawberry

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish, high drinkability

O- A thirst quenching lager that has just enough fruity sweetness, perfect summertime brew

A: poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass, golden colored with a short white head that dissipates leaving little lacing, clear

S: sweet strawberry, light grain, dominated by strawberry

T: it actually tastes like strawberry shortcake, there's strawberry (the gooey red syrup sweet kind), vanilla sponge cake, and a hint of cream

M: flat Bud Light

O: I don't know how the hell they did this, but the sozzberries taste like snozzberries. Too bad someone forgot about mouthfeel.

Poured at 43°F from a 22oz bottle into a ping glass. Consumed on 04Jul16.
SMELL: Mild aromas of strawberry syrup, vanilla, and biscuits are backed by hints of unsalted crackers.
TASTE: Strong strawberry syrup flavors open up the taste profile. Mild vanilla and biscuit flavors flow in right after to bring balance to the artificial sweetness. Subtle bitter hop flavors enter mid-palate to present just the right amount of bitterness. Subtle unsalted cracker flavors finish off the taste profile as all previous flavors persist.
NOTE: I was disappointed in CCB with this one. I do not know if this was brewed with real strawberries or with artificial flavors, but the end result tastes like the latter. This was not a bad beer and I would definitely drink again, but only if it hit local shelves.

Poured into a teku pint. Bottleneck says 27 JAN 16.

A- Pours a semi-hazy light amber color with a 1/2 inch white head that retains well before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Fresh strawberry aroma pours from the glass. I can even smell the seeds.

T- Sweet strawberry flavor reminds me of strawberry ice cream. Definitely more artificial-seeming than in the nose. Can't really taste much actual beer with all the strawberry sweetness.

M- Typical lager feel with some crispness and not much body. Medium carbonation.

O- If this beer was done on a mass scale, it would be just as big a seller as Abita Purple Haze, Magic Hat #9 or any of those other popular fruit-flavored beers. I actually dig this because there are no off-flavors and it delivers what it claims to be. I wouldn't drink it all the time but it'd be nice to know it was always there in case I felt like grabbing some.

pours a clear, bubbly golden-orange straw with a medium head that poofs. nose; clean grain, fresh strawberry, & mild hops. taste; again, very clean & simple cereal grain, strawberry, yeast, & light citrus hops. medium carbonation & mouthfeel. a very simple 1-note lager that isn't very engaging, but does get points for having a very authentic strawberry flavor. easy to drink, but a very simple lager profile.

Bottle: Poured a straw yellow color ale with a nice foamy head. Aroma of strawberry shortcake with some light vanilla notes. Taste is also a mix of sugary notes of strawberry notes with some vanilla notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Weird and not sure these are all natural flavours – not something I would have on a regular basis but glad I tried it.

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass. Bottle Jan 28th 2016.

A decent if slightly cloudy golden body color, but even with some orange to peach like colors mixing in as well. Lots of fine rising carbonation meeting to a bit of a soapy two finger head. Settles to a simple collar.

That aroma is certainly as described. Strawberry and berry bursting, and vanilla smelling angel food cake. Light and not overly sweet either, mixing in with a delightful sense of creamy and bakery flavors. Neat and inviting. Not much sensing beer to malt/hop character but it's an exceptional and very impressive nose.

Palate is quite delightful and fun. Moderate juicy fruit, with a nice sundae strawberry topping like flavor. Quite crisp and bubbly sensing in the mid palate, and a somewhat thicker than expected malt depth. Sweet mixing fruit and a bit of more cream and vanilla tones matching as well.

It's a fairly straightforward fruited beer, and leaves it at it that, but at least a very good and memorable one.

Redeeming quality here is you can taste real, fresh strawberry. Other than that, it's a strawberry lager. If you're curious, go for it. I wouldn't feel the urge to drink it again.

Clear yellow with a soapy head that quickly dies off.

The strawberry aroma comes off at times as natural, and other times as artificial, sort of like those old My Little Pony scratch and sniff toys from the 80s.

The lager qualities of biscuity malts work well with the strawberry to create that shortcake effect seemingly without having to add anything else.

Despite the completely misleading appearance, overall, this is somehow spot on for the name, or at least how a child might imagine it.

I'm not sure what possessed me to buy this, but it is an interesting, sweet treat. Dessert.

It is a pretty flat drink, with little or not head, a few bubbles, light yellow, hazy color. Typical for the style. The aroma is a pronounced, sweet strawberry smell.

The taste is the strawberry shortcake, cake and all. The yeasts and malts seem to meld with the fruit to complete the cake taste. It is exactly as advertised. There is a bit of sour in there too.

I had something with a similar appeal earlier today at Tomoka - their tangerine flavored weisse. This doesn't work quite as well, but they really are quite different. Recommended, for dessert.

Pours a golden honey color. Aroma is strawberry and a little sweet. Flavor is actually strawberry shortcake. Sweet strawberries with a balanced cake like finish. Overall this is really good. Don't know if I could drink a ton of it but still refreshing.

smell: Strawberries duh. Fairly lightweight which i guess is the intention.
taste: Strawberries, a hint of sweet, mostly dry and crisp. Nothing to knock your socks off but it delivers what is advertises and pretty damn refreshing on this hot Ga day.

Clear gold, one finger of soapy white head. Smells like strawberries and not much else. Tastes like sugared strawberries with some bread based dessert...shortcake, sure. Finishes with more strawberry. This wins strawberry beers simply by not being overly sweet and by tasting like real strawberries instead of artificially flavored syrup.

Appearance: Display a crystal clear, golden body with a small, thin, white head.

Smell: Strawberries.

Taste: A light base of simply, transient malts, with a very minor breadiness to them. Light cereal sweetness. Chiefly, it's the strawberry flavoring from start to tangy finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: It's a fruit beer.

This rating reflects a lot of bias on my part. I just can't conceive of how they get these flavors and aromas into the beer in any natural way. It's not that they seem artificial - it smells and tastes very close to Strawberry Shortcake. Furthermore, it's obviously a novelty; I doubt anyone has ever said "damn, I REALLY want a lager that tastes like strawberry shortcake." So, as a new school brewing accomplishment, this is legit. The base is well made, the flavors aren't overwhelmingly sweet, the aroma is uncanny. If you love strawberry shortcake, it's also very legit. But if the idea of chemically enhanced (I assume there has to be some kind of additive here that's not a natural adjunct) beer or flavor combinations for the sake of experimentation alone sort of rub you the wrong way, you may end up with more of my take: yeah, it "works" but ... "why" does it exist?

Pours blonde, with a creamy, short lived head. Smells sweet, strawberry jam and breaf. Tastes of strawberry preserves, and finishes with strawberry and sweet yeasty bread. Feels spritzy but falls flat quick, short lived and dry.
