Tampa-Style LagerTampa-Style Lager
Notes: This Tampa-style Lager is inspired by the traditional German-style Helles, which translates to “light colored.” Perfect for the Florida heat, it’s a beer that’s made for drinkin’ when it’s truly hotter than helles outside.

Tampa Lager

On tap at DiveBar, NYC.

Pours a clear golden straw color appropriate for the style. A frothy white head retains well and displays lots of lacing.

Clean aroma overall, with a hint of cracker and bready malt to start things off. As the drink warms, the aromas open up somewhat to reveal hints of grass, fruity and floral hops.

Clean, crisp and light bodied. Simply crafted, refreshing and with a moderate to lively carbonation on par for the style. A neutral and dry cracker and bready malt flavor comprises the backbone, solid and with a hint of sweetness. Well hopped with moderately spicy and earthy flavors, bright lemony hops and floral hops notes which, combined with the clean flavor profile, make me feel like I’m drinking a refreshing rose water. As an easy going earthy hops bitterness develops, it greatly improves drinkability. The finish is clean and crisp.

Solid Lager overall, not particularly complex, but sessionable.

Poured into glass from can. Color is pale yellow with a slight haze. Has a cackery aroma similar to some continental lagers. Flavor leans toward a malt sweetness with a bit of hop bitterness for balance. Medium light body and a slightly tart finish.

Wanted a low alcohol beer while fishing in the mangroves. This Tampa style lager was just the ticket. This has a quality, flavour and feel that sets it apart from “light” beers. Ps. Had an alligator try to take a snook away from me today.

COD 10/16/18. Clear golden pour. World class head volume and lacing. Retention is very good.

The nose is very good and is typical for the style. A hint of floral hops present over a light bready background.

Light body but not watery. The texture is smooth with a touch of viscosity. The carbonation / body balance is outstanding. Mid-palate effervescence is prickly while the finish is finely bubbled and tickles the tongue.

The flavor profile is very good but lacks complexity and intensity. In short, this is a laid back lager that is tasty. Bitterness is a mere hint. The overall effect is a light floral flavor over equally light bready malt with a hint of biscuit. The finish is clean.

pours a clear, bright golden straw with a medium head. nose; pilsner malt, very light fruit/berry ester, and not much else. taste; cracker malt, bread/biscuit, & very light grassy hops. medium carbonation & mouthfeel, and like most lagers, turns into a foamy mouthfeel almost immediately. extremely simple and single note.

Tampa had a style of a lager! I did not know there was a Tampa, Germany! This is a good beer, a very tasty and solid all around that had been around for a while. This is an awesome beer!

Sometimes it's difficult to rate a beer against others within the style and not rate the style overall. This is one of those cases for me. Lagers aren't my favorite and, therefore, if I rate this beer in relation to all other styles, it would get a low score. When compared to other American lagers, though, it's a good beer. Pours with a fluffy white head typical of the style. Light, sweet aroma with the hops faint but noticeable if you're looking for them. Clean, light malty taste that's very drinkable. Well carbonated with a clean finish.

On tap at Das Biergarten. Clear golden. Smells of some grain. That's about it. Tastes of a sharp grain flavor. Dries out with some grassy hop flavor. Light body. Not bad but not very flavorful.

I bought a six pack of this at whole foods. It's a good lager, refreshing and easy to drink. My only complaints are the price point and the slight balance of the flavor toward excessive bitterness on the finish.

Nice and refreshing, golden color with nice head. Faintly smells of malt, tastes of sweet malt, grain and has a faint floral hoppy aftertaste. Mild mouthfeel and moderate carbonation throughout. Slightly bitter aftertaste, otherwise I would have scored it higher.

Canned 03/30/18. First pour into my new Aardwolf snifter!

Hadn’t considered this in the past until I found out that it’s a Helles-style Lager and I just couldn’t pass it up. Another case of beer style snobbery on BA. This has a low average vs. all beer when it should be scored against its peers. And that’s where this beer shines. Man, if the big macro companies made their Pale Lagers like this, we would actually enjoy them!

This beer is super refreshing, crisp, clean, and drinkable, with a really delicious malt bill. Finish is slightly hopped with pleasant fruitiness and bready malt. Body and feel are incredible for the style. This is really, really well done. Buying a 6-pack next time instead of a single can. You really can’t beat this in the category, which is why I scored it so high.

Pours out a golden yellow with a slight haze. The head is white and somewhat frothy. Retention is excellent with some even lacing around the glass. Lots of carbonation coming up from the center. This is a delicious looking beer.
Got some grains and lemongrass in the nose. There slight bitterness and sourness in the mild that hits you then disappears quickly. Lemongrass in the taste with a bit of malt and spicy hops. Leaves a lingering sourness that is very pleasant. The mouthfeel is simply smooth and refreshing with spot-on carbonation. I'm in love with this beer. This might very well be my new go-to session beer. Solid 4s all around. Just an easy going great tasting beer.

12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 4/2/2018. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit of lemon/pear fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very nice Munich Helles lager. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Just a tad hoppier than a true Helles. Clean Pils/Munich malts and nice earthy hop presence for the style. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

L) Ever so slightly hazy straw color, Small head, some retention and lacing.

S) Smells of fruit, grain, and straw. A little bit of light caramel.

T) The taste is refreshing, very grainy, has a touch of sweetness, and a simple German style hop profile.

F) Not as light as some lagers, it actually has a bit of body to it. Good mouthfeel and perfect carbonation.

O) Really solid easy drinking brew like intended. Paired with a chilly-pot-pie, was absolutely lovely.

Can Date: 1/10/18
Palate Contaminants: none

Very clear, light gold with lots of fine, white head.

Smell is pedestrian for a lager, indistinguishable from any typical AAL.

The taste is pretty good for the type. There's plenty of flavor. A bit of sweet corn and sweet rice, and I don't mean that in a bad way, either. There's a freshness to it that makes it pretty pleasant. Also some fresh herb, halfway between cilantro and vanilla. Not complicated, and plenty refreshing.

Light prickly carbonation with a swish around the mouth. Aftertaste matches the flavor, but it dissapates quickly. Medium-heavy weight for the type. It's notably well constructed.

12 oz can at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park.
This is a striking take on an American lager. Perhaps off style but bold, complex and distinct.
Smooth, medium+ body and near medium carbonation.
Well crafted and superb for style.

Poured into a glass from a 12oz bottle.

L - Pours a clear straw, forming a thin white head, and no lacing. Light carbonation.

S - Bready malts and floral hops. Something else is present in the nose, that I cant quite place, but it reminds me of a macro lager.

T - Light breadiness from the pilsener malt, but a sweetness is also present, possibly from the addition of adjuncts. Low bitterness from the hops and no hop flavor.

F - Light bodied, low carbonation, but clean. Mouthfeel is still a bit thin.

O - I would not consider this to be a Helles style lager as it is listed elsewhere, but more like a macro lager.

Appearance: Poured into my Madison River Glass at 35 degrees. A rough pour produced a two finger head with fair retention. The head is creamy and airy, leaving a little lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is a pale yellow. The clarity of the beer is clear with a small amount of carbonation.

Aroma: Corn, lightly toasted malts, and yeast are the primary aromas. The beer has a touch of phenolic aroma, DMS, and green apple.

Taste: Lightly toasted malts, DMS, a touch of green apple and yeast. Additional flavors are a floral and citrus.

The mouthfeel of the beer is light, light carbonation, light body, and a light finish.

Surprisingly, this beer is refreshing. The beer has a gentle hop bitterness that is pleasing to the palate. I would enjoy this beer on a hot sunny day.
