Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Tampa-style Lager is inspired by the traditional German-style Helles, which translates to “light colored.” Perfect for the Florida heat, it’s a beer that’s made for drinkin’ when it’s truly hotter than helles outside.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Willi Becher glass. Canned on 14 July 2017.
3/2/2.25/2.5/2.5
A: Very light in color and transparent, with a faintest milky haze. Two fingers of head churns and quickly settles.
S: Smells grainy and gross. Some sulfur and skunk.
T: Tastes better, but still grainy-sweet and cheap tasting. You might as well be drinking High Life, etc.
M: Watery, with a sulfuric aftertaste.
O: I guess I don't get it. If you like cheap American lagers (and there is a time and a place) you will like this. Nothing to go out of your way for.

Non-descript but inoffensive - a touch thin and watery, veers a little close to adjunct territory but the malt profile is bright and there are some light floral notes which makes it drinkable

On tap at Das Biergarten. Clear golden. Smells of some grain. That's about it. Tastes of a sharp grain flavor. Dries out with some grassy hop flavor. Light body. Not bad but not very flavorful.

Caveats: This is my first review after years of lurking. Also, I am not a big fan of lagers in the helles/pilsner region of stye, so this is not really in my wheelhouse. That said. . .

Poured from a 12 oz. can in to a pilsner glass, straight from the fridge.

Appearance: Slightly-hazen golden. Poured a two finger rocky white head that dissipated rather quickly. No lacing to speak of, though a small white cap remained through the drink.

Smell: Almost of white grapes, and light malts. No real hop aromas to speak of. Smells almost like donuts or sweet bread.

Taste: Very light body. Incredibly light, almost invisible. Taste is very mild. Some sweetness, and some spice, and also sort of reminds me of the flavor of glue when you accidentally get some in your mouth. Very crisp and clean, there is virtually no aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Roughly the same as soda water, with just a little less carbonation. Which is fine for the style and purpose.

Overall: Not my choice in beer, but I do give it points for how well it accomplishes what it's trying to do. This is a craft shot at, "lawnmower beer," and it executes that perfectly. Great fit for hot weather and physical day, it goes down smooth and is very refreshing. It's probably the best helles I've ever had, but not enough to make helles a style I'll reach for often.

A little too hoppy and fizzy for my taste. This is almost a session IPA to me.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Clear yellow color. Very short lived head very little lacing. Smell is grassy. The taste is slightly sweet with bread and a bit of lemon. An ok beer, but probably not something I will buy on a regular basis.

Poured into a glass from a 12oz bottle.

L - Pours a clear straw, forming a thin white head, and no lacing. Light carbonation.

S - Bready malts and floral hops. Something else is present in the nose, that I cant quite place, but it reminds me of a macro lager.

T - Light breadiness from the pilsener malt, but a sweetness is also present, possibly from the addition of adjuncts. Low bitterness from the hops and no hop flavor.

F - Light bodied, low carbonation, but clean. Mouthfeel is still a bit thin.

O - I would not consider this to be a Helles style lager as it is listed elsewhere, but more like a macro lager.

12oz can. 5/25/16 can date. Appearance: Pale yellow, clear, with a low lying white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma: Grainy, cracker like malt, a touch of herbal hops, and a bit of sulphur. Taste: Light cracker maltiness with a light, grainy harshness, with a light but balancing floral hop bitterness. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a crisp, sharp carbonation Finish: Finishes malt forward with some light cracker. Overall: A well balanced, crisp, easy drinking lager. Balance is definitely malt forward, suggesting a Helles style. I do pick up a light sulphur note, and the grainy malt can be a little on the harsh side.

Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager has a thick, off-white head, a mostly clear, bubbly, straw-gold appearance, with lots of roiling, dust-like sediment, throughout. Aroma is musty, biscuit, and malty, with slight honey and citrus. Taste is of those elements, with more pronounced honey-topped white bread and low-level, rounding bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager finishes crisp and refreshing.

Clear shimmering gold with a white film clinging in sheets.

Smell is Corn Flakes, grape and grains.

Taste is sweet corn, grape and toast with a bitter green finish.

Smooth with a soft mild carbonation, finishing semi-dry to chewy.
