Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a J. Wakefield OG teku glass.
A: Very dark brown and opaque. Low amount of visible carbonation, and a thin tan head that fades fairly quickly.
S: Dark and sweet milk chocolates, and sweet vanilla. Roasted malts and moist tobacco. Almost an amaretto booziness in the background. I'm not getting a huge hazelnut aroma, but wonder if that might factor into the amaretto aspect. There’s a bit of sweet woodiness as well.
T: Sweet chocolate, baker’s chocolate, roasted malts, and strong vanilla. Even on the flavors, there still seems like there's some amaretto. Sweet cypress wood. It finishes with more sweet malts and chocolate with some drying bitterness that seems like pure cacao.
M: Fairly heavy-bodied, as are most Cigar City Imperial Stouts, and a typical sticky mouthfeel. Low but expected carbonation sensation. Fairly restrained alcohol presence for style.
O: An interesting concept, but one that I’m not really digging. There are a lot of sweet flavors, and the wood they selected doesn’t do much to balance it. There’s isn’t so much in the way of roasted malt bitterness, and the cacao bitterness just doesn’t quite stand up to all the sweet flavors. It certainly doesn't seem like a hazelnut bomb. If a chocolate and amaretto beer seems like a good idea to you, you might love this one. Not my personal preference, but again I think a problem with concept rather than execution.

650 mL bottle. Inky black. Big mocha head. Smells of the cypress wood, which I haven’t had before. Chocolate, a little soy sauce, and a bit nutty. Tastes of hazelnuts throughout. They kinda combine with the soy sauce flavor in a negative way. Very savory. Fudgy and woody. Cypress lingers. Heavy and boozy. It’s standard CCB giant stout fare. Soy sauce and crazy adjuncts.
